Roster Updates
http://daytonflyers.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball
The 5 Newbies now listed:
Jalen Crutcher
6'1" 162
Jordan Davis
6'3" 186
Matej Svoboda
6'7" 212
Obi Toppin
6'8" 195
Jordan Pierce
6'11" 262
Doesn't look like anything else has been updated besides adding the "New Core" to the roster

I really hope those few days sooner that Ohio State had their newcomers on their websites roster doesn't cost us any recruits, but it is possible the lack of any pictures being posted yet could really hurt UD in the long run!

I am worried that we currently have two #12's listed on the roster. Does that mean one can only play defense, and the other offense, like they do in college football?

Those appear to be last year's weights for the returnees. I was hoping Kostas had cracked 200 pounds by now. Toppin needs to bulk up, too. And I thought Williams was quoted as being 215 and hoping to get to 220 before the start of the season. Still listed at 210. Pierce has Big Steve-type dimensions. Hope he develops likewise ...

Remains to be seen whether either number 12 can play defense or offense.
But I think Trey is taking the number 3 jersey that Kyle Davis wore.
Sure would be nice if the new number 3 could play defense like the old number 3 could!

I recall reading somewhere that Trey would wear #3 this year. They will change
it with the other updated info on the returnees I presume.

Toppin was 6'2" as a junior in high school before shooting up six inches. Went to bed a guard and woke up a forward. Just has to fill out that newly expanded frame!

Imagine this "super athletic" lineup:
D. Davis

Please define 'super athletic'. In my 20+ years as a royal season ticket holder, I'm not sure we've had 5 'super athletic' Flyers. And I predict that at least 1 of your 5 will prove early in the season to be anything but 'super'.

I think you're super wrong on that one. Because you don't have to be super good to be super something.
D. Davis: super perimeter-based game. Takes super long shots.
Landers: super underused last year. Could be super needed this year.
Kostas: super hype. Super long name.
Toppin: super late bloomer who can jump super high.
Williams: turning into a super player. If he's not super good, we are super F'd.

With no snark at all, I hope they thoroughly check his heart once he's on campus. Can't that be a SOP for anyone over 6'8" from now on? The cost must be trivial and we can tout it to recruits.

Also like to see him not get thrown off/suspended from the team. Track record is not great for players over 6'6 in recent years.

C-time: Ohio State's basketball website is completely updated with the new roster including the walk-on's plus the non-conference schedule and the conference schedule. Why am I comparing Dayton's internet presence with Ohio State? Answer: Because Dwayne Cohill or his parents might be noticing it; just like I just noticed it!
If you want to compete, you got to get in the game and little things like the internet page can be important.
Now, I see that the web-page has, at least, put some of the bio info on the web page. My point was the internet presence and social media marketing is REALLY IMPORTANT. In life there are so many things that you CAN NOT CHANGE but working extra hard and keeping a web page "top notch" is something that CAN BE CHANGED. Having spent much time, preaching to my C-Team, at work, about the importance of marketing through every channel and the importance of web and media presence; I just hated the perception that the University of Dayton is not trying to be technologically savvy.
Do I really think that the University of Dayton having a "top notch" presence on Internet web pages, Twitter, Facebook and others will swing a "top" basketball recruit or his parents to sending their kid the Dayton? Maybe, its just one factor. But, like the consumer, you never know what swung the buyer to buy your product. Was it the price, quality, referral from another consumer, or just a great web presence that got the word out?

Did you folks notice that all these guys shrunk from their 247 Sports, ESPN and other high school source (AAU) measurements? Crutcher was 6'3", Toppin was 6/9", Pierce was 7'0", Davis was 6'4". Even Williams in an interview on WHIO said he was 6"9" on the radio but he is listed an inch shorter.

That's because the B1G has released their conference schedule already. The A10 has not. UD has the non-conference schedule on the website which is all they have available until the A10 announces the schedule. I don't know what more you want them to do. UD can't exactly put a schedule that they don't have yet on the website.

Why are you even looking at those pages in August anyway? I only looked at them after you mentioned it. I can't think of any reason I would have otherwise.

Actually UD has more info on the newcomers than Ohio State does. UD has all of their background info, HS stats, awards, parents names, siblings, etc. UD has no pictures yet.
And on a second look through Ohio State's roster and their amazing web presence they only have the height, weight, hometown, and high school for the newcomers. You also mentioned that they have the photos updated. Well they actually don't. Young and Wesson are the only 2 that have photos. Jallow, Dakich, Lehmann, and Fulton don't have a photo. They must be waiting for a picture/media day just like UD is.

I also think it's important to have a great web presence, but sometimes you just need to realize it's August there is a lot of stuff going on at the beginning of the school year and fall sports season for both the players and the SID's office.
Just relax and you'll get your pictures and what their favorite food is once UD and OSU have their photo/media days.

Man, we are going to be in serious trouble if this trend continues seeing as we only have five sub 6'6 guys on scholarship.
How's this look for a lineup?
PG: Crosby
SG: Crutcher
SF: Jordan Davis
PF: Darrell Davis
C: Trey Landers
SUSPENDED: Cunningham, Svoboda, Toppin, Antetokounmpo, Pierce, Williams, Mikesell, Miller
PREDICTION: Zero wins. And Darrell Davis quits when Grant tells him he's our PF.

Green was listed at 245. Osborne at 260. Green was a beast. Osborne was just thick.
Also, Chip Hare was listed at 245 and Marco Pikaar was listed at 247.
Old school, I know Hank Finkel was a big dude.

From one who's learned a lot about heart issues recently...there's a limit to what an EKG, ultrasound, sonogram, nuclear stress test, etc., can tell you from a preventative perspective. And height has nothing to do with it. It some cases, skeletal structure...yes. I'm sure the medical staff has done, and will continue to do, thorough physicals. The investment is too much.

Bad prediction. Ben Kanieski is put in the power forward spot and performs far beyond expectation. (Ie fans will be clamoring that he deserves a full scholarship the next year) DD will be the sub off the bench and will never miss any three pointer he attempts.

This is also what I have heard as well. I have been told in some instances, a person has to be having symptoms for their issue to actually appear on these tests. Now I could be totally wrong, but that is what I have been told by some people who work in the medical field.

I highly doubt anyone grew or shrunk at their age, I find it funny when the numbers change on height.
Svoboda is 6'7"? He didn't look that tall in the videos I saw. He looked more like 6'4" or so. I hope it's real.
Why can't DD but some weight on that body?? Hit the weights young man.
Landers is BEEFY.

Anyone who thinks Darrell Davis is going to magically start to finish when driving in the lane needs to continue buying lottery tickets because they are dreaming.

The difference is DO worked hard to develop his body between his Freshman and Jr. year. DD will be a senior and he still weighs a buck seventy and is going into his Sr. year. I'm not down on DD. I think he stepped up and played stellar defense last year. I hope he knocks down 40+% from the three next year (and think he is capable of doing it).
But, let's be honest, a 6'5", 170 lb guard is not going to finish at the rim like a 6'5" 195 kid could and he will be doing his team a disservice if he forces it. Swim in in your lane DD. Be a spot up shooter, play good D, and take it to the rack when open but don't try to be "the man" just because you are a Sr.

Not everyone can be a superstar and DD is not one. He needs to play his role like springborofan says. Becoming a senior isn't going to suddenly make DD into a new player.
He needs to do the two things he is good at. Shoot spot up 3's and play defense.
Anything beyond that usually ends poorly which has been proven time and time again.

Growing an inch or two seems to be a little too much personal information.

Agree to disagree. Up until last year DD did not play good defense.
Not saying that the skill he needs to pick up for this season is finishing around the rim. Maybe it's shooting off the dribble, passing or ball handling.
All the same. I would expect/hope that he improves other areas of his game going into his senior year.

The only thing I would say to that is that his defense improved because he finally decided to put forth the effort required to play good defense. That had nothing to do with any real skill improvement. It was simply choosing to give effort.
Maybe he will improve in some offensive skill areas, but there was no evidence of any real offensive skill improvement in 3 years by DD while almost every other player improved in some way. We have seen him try to do many of those things in games which made it pretty obvious the coaches were trying to add those skills to his game, but he failed repeatedly to execute them in a game. It finally got to the point last year that I was pretty sure Archie just flat out told him to stop messing around with drives etc. and just stick to shooting spot up 3's.
Truthfully I'd be perfectly happy if Darrell is simply a 3 and D guy this year.

I've been watching UD basketball for over 40 years and I can count two walk on's that helped the team (other than as good teammates and good practice players) Ted Fitz and Bobby Wherli. Am I missing any?

If I'm not mistaken, Jeff Tressler walked on and helped out Donoher. 7 footer got some pretty significant minutes.
I've always remembered that Andy Metzler walked on.
Then there's Waleskowski.

Waleskowski didn't walk on. He was recruited but was redshirted and paid for his first year while not playing. Did Metzler actually walk on? I thought about him but I couldn't remember the circumstances surrounding him.

Tressler actually played very little. He redshirted his first year to "bulk up" and as I recall, he went from 189 to 190 lbs. I still remember seeing him after a game walking around drinking a Tab (diet soda)!
I think he was only on the team for two years after his redshirt year. He was listed at 6'11".

The Tressler recollection is from a 40 Year old mind trying to remember 30 some years ago...where's the time gone?

One of about 200 consecutive links which disproves your statement:
https://www.healthline.com/health/wh...wing#overview1
"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), on average, boys complete their growth by the time they are 16-17 years old. Some boys may continue to grow another inch or so in the later teen years."
But yes, I knew "a guy" who grew 4 inches after high school. That is not "many" or "most".

Yes, I think I have read that coconut cream is very healthy. Or maybe that was coconut oil, but what's the difference. Eat the whole pie.

Dayton adds walk-on guard to roster
http://www.daytondailynews.com/sport...mfkopM3YxJrrL/
UD added Dalton Stewart to the roster on Wednesday. He’s a 6-foot-2 guard who averaged 14.9 points as a senior at Brookville.

I've seen it more than once, and I trust my eyes more than a government agency. Not that I think they would intentionally lie about this, just that the "researcher" for this information may not have given it their all. Wait, government employees would do that, would they?

The average height of an adult male is under 5'-10" (non Hispanic white and black males, which make up a large majority of college basketball players, are roughly 5'-9.5", while Hispanic males average around 5'-7"). The average male basketball player is over 6'-0" tall, and if you consider schools at the level that UD is at or higher, and take away the point gaurds, I'm guessing your average height is somewhere over 6'-4". So perhaps, the average male is done growing at 17 or 18, but college basketball players, at this level are anything but average when it comes to height. I think it would stand to reason that many would grow an extra inch or two into their longer than average frames over the 4 years they are in college.

These responses sound like a desperate attempt to say "no really, I'm not totally wrong, I could hypothetically be right if I just look for an obscure enough concept that can't be disproven."
