We should have won this going away. Can't miss lay ups and free throws one after the other.

Pierre didn't play well on either end again. Too many mental lapses and laziness. Hope this isn't a recurring theme where he plays bad, the gets ****ed and plays well, then gets lazy again.

The A10 should be ashamed of the officials and announcers in this game.

I think that schedule fatigue and height disadvantage is beginning to show itself in these last fewgames. We are beginning to looked tired at home and especially on the road.
ESPNU announcers talking about IF we had hit free throws we may have taken the lead.
Fatigue is the real enemy now

UD lost the game....not the refs (who were very bad). Have to make FT's and layups.

Sibert missed an and 1 as did Kyle. There is the difference. Plus DP's missed bunny. Lots of missed opportunities.

The phantom out of bounds on Schoochie led to 2 free throws and the difference at 66-64 right now. How do you call that out of bounds?!?!?!?

Very tough loss. UMass has great skill players, but no coach and no leadership. Once in awhile they will find a bone and they did tonight.

Umass didn't win it, the Flyers lost it. If they just shoot a reasonable percentage from the FT line they win easy. Also, need to make wide open layups.

We did not lose because of refs -- we missed too many foul shots and lay-ups.
But ref who called the absolutely phantom out of bounds on Schoochie and they did not so a video review which they can do under 1 minute should have some consequences. Not a judgment call, but a pure miss of not even close out of bounds.

A game that we had the ability to win. UMASS sought to use its height and did, but also sought to wear us out, but I don't know that they succeeded. Our FTs and blown layups hurt us badly and resulted in a 2 pt loss.

Yep, which is why this is a tough loss. UMass made a mistake by going into "stall the clock" mode, and they were trying to give the game away, but we missed critical free throws, lay-ups, and committed a few needless turnovers. Tough one.

7-21 on threes. That sunk us. Just like at Davidson, Sibert came out on fire then disappears after the first half.

If you watch the entire sequence he landed with the ball still in his hands. He took off from an inbounds position but did not get rid of the ball in time. In other words, correct call.

That was a good effort, but they missed too many free throws, layups, and threes. A lot of the threes were good looks, but they didn't fall. That call on the out of bounds play against Scooch didn't help. It's not a bad loss so hopefully they bounce back against The Rams.

I don't think anyone said the ref's lost Dayton the game. They were just very bad. I think we all know it was poor ft shooting and points in the paint.

Missed free throws, missed lay ups, they looked tired. And to top it off the idiot announcer referred to an article last year which chronicled our elite 8 run and called us THE Dayton University. I thought the new logo was supposed to take care of that???

Correct the refs were real bad both ways. They let us brutalize their bigs and sometimes their smalls.
Only 12 turnovers and close on rebounds. We just did not shoot the ball well.

This was a game dayton lost rather than UMass won. You can't miss that many foul shots (50%) on the road and expect to win. DP had a bad shooting night but I think he's playing with a bad/taped hand. The refs were beyond horrible- maybe some of the worst officiating I've ever seen. I don't think this loss kills Dayton - they just need to win 22-23 games and I think last year and this years "story" gets them in. Interesting to hear what AM has to say...

Refs were bad (in the second half), missed free throws, missed treys, missed lay-ups, needless turnovers......and still only lost by two points.

CJ, I just replayed and I think he releases it before He lands -- close as I went frame by frame. How do you not go to the monitor it on to check?!? They go to the monitor on everything.
Anyway, does not matter if we hit foul shots and lay-ups.

If you call 7 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists "stunk up the joint" I'd like to see your "really good" definition....did you happen to notice his taped up thumb? His missed layup late did hurt- but UD in general gave away lots of opportunities. Just for the record- I thought DP played a good game!

I felt the Flyers looked slow going for loose balls for the 1sttime this year. This is not a criticism, just an observation as I stay concerned about our lack of both depth and inside presence.
I am not optimistic that they will finish strong. I see some of these predictions that we only lose 2-3 more games (including tonight) & feel like we look at the schedule like it is a rotisserie league. I don't think you can assume with our lack of depth and height that prior results will just automatically continue.
I think we have no margin for error in games because of the depth & height we lack.

Really? He played 38 minutes, had 13 rebounds, 7 assists, and a steal. Did he shoot well? No, but when he got the ball inside he was surrounded by big guys and never really had a chance to do his inside "thing". Missed layup? Yes.. It happens. But I really can't see how you can "stunk out the joint".

Not to oversimplify it, but 7-14 from the line is not going to get it done, 9 times out of 10. If they had connected on 10-14 (71%), we win by 2 instead of lose by 2. Other missed opportunities, but that's the stat that stands out to me.
Oh, well, kick Fordham back to the Bronx on Sunday, and we're 2-2 in our last 4. Leave this one in Amherst - come home with a clean slate and a fresh attitude.

And should have asked refs to check clock when and from 3.9 to 2.1 on an immediate foul. Archie is great, but would like him to ask refs to check video monitor more often. Have the graduate assistant remind him.

I really think that as good as JS is, he refuses to force his game and continues to just play team ball. It wouldn't bother me though if he took over games even to the extent of maybe taking some contested shots. This team in my mind is a miracle in progress. If you're a Flyer fan back in December, watching your 2 only big men dismissed, then see Ryan Bass go down and out with the unfortunate concussion, and on top of that watch Rodgers just never make it to the court...you should be really thankful these guys are dedicated and still pouring out their heart. This is the gutsiest UD team I've ever seen (all the way back to 1967 my first year as a fan). These guys are students first, amateur athletes second. And still 16-4 at this point. I know some people at UD that thought they'd win no more than 15-16 for the year when the knuckleheads got dismissed...

You're right. Stunk out the joint was an emotional kneejerk comment after a totally frustrating loss and was out of line. But, AM has declared DP his "most gifted' player. When a player of his caliber goes 3 for 10, mostly from inside, misses a layup at crunch time, has 3, fairly bad, turnovers and nearly several more in such a close game his performance felt bad to me. Especially so soon after the worst game of his career at Davidson.
Gotta admit I was shocked when I looked at the boxscore and saw his statline. He's a great player. I love watching him and this team play. Every one of them does things that are really impressive and fun to root for.
Promise I'll try to calm down before posting next time!

The more accurate statement is Pierre didn't play up to his usual standards. If he plays close to his standard play, we win easily.

Defining his standard of play isn't easy!
In road games this season, he's scored: 7 (Miami), 6 (Ark), 15 (St. B), 16 (Fordham), 5 (Davidson) and 7 (UMass).
At home he's scored: 16, 4, 15, 8, 7, 19, 17, 16, 16, 10 and 21.
In other words, his standard of play is a lot more reliable and predictable at home...and on the road we need others to step up.
IMHO, Pollard is the heart and soul of this team and Pierre is the Sgt Hulka...you know, the 'big toe'.
