VCU (A10 2nd Round) Game Thread

Really solid game by the guys on Saturday Afternoon, but which UD team will we get in DC? Round 3 vs. Rhoades' guys... Let's Get it!

Game is a 12 PM on Thursday and will be shown on NBC Sports Network.

Starting Lineup:

F 11 Issac Vann 6’6” 210 RS SO Bridgeport, CT
F 4 Justin Tillman 6’8” 220 SR Detroit, MI
F 5 Sean Mobley 6’8” 240 FR Cocoa Beach, FL

Tillman, Nuff Said (18.9 PPG 9.7 RPG) likely 1st Team All-A10... Jenkins has had a good year too at 12.8 PPG... Williams is up there in assists per game at 5.7 a night.

Let's see if the boys can keep the season going or do we get this unreal off-season started.

I also believe. Hopefully Kostas carries his momentum on the road, we need to play some decent defense and get Josh and Jalen 7-8 minutes of pine time. 4 games in 4 days is bad, it's worse when you are playing 35+ minutes a game.

Wow. I just went back an looked at box scores. Kostas didn’t play in either VCU game. Hopefully he adds a different element that VCU is not prepared to handle.

I was hoping for that when we played in Virginia. It makes no sense to me to this day why Kostas didn't get one second of opportunity to see what he could do defensively against Tillman. Tillman is almost unstoppable and just makes sense that you at least try and put a guy with the length(both height and arms) against him and see if you can cause him to redirect his shots. Hopefully I finally get the chance to see if I was right or wrong.

He couldn't have done any worse than the other guys guarding Tillman

VCU shot up must get a body on Tillman. Must find him if we are in zone. Limit his touches which begins with ball pressure. Maybe front him and coach backside help. If he gets position with the ball maybe an aggressive double will negate his power moves.

Kostas will almost certainly foul out, but if he blocks a couple and misdirects a little bit and draws a foul or two on Tillman it's worth it. Cunningham playing 30 minutes or less and a win is a perfect scenario. Nobody is stopping Tillman. Nobody. If we hold him to 19 and 10(his averages) it's a win. Just don't let him go nuts on the offensive glass. Thats very deflating.

He's a pretty lousy FT shooter also. That's why it's worth it to have Kostas foul out and preventing him from getting a few FGs in favor of the FT line. If he'd have done that a couple times in the last game, we win in regulation.

Why am I smiling? The future is bright. Add some depth next year, bit of maturity from our two guards, and quite optimistic for what lies ahead as we dance next season! I see a lot of good to build upon, and a few bad things that AG will get fixed.

Kostas is learning. 4 pts and 2 rebounds in 11 minutes. Two great moves to the basket and one terrible one.

Our 2-11 on threes is killing us, or Jordan and Crutcher at 1-8 is killing us.

Both teams with only 3 turnovers and 19 rebounds. They have made three more three pointers and that is the difference.

Tillman played 18 minutes and has one foul called. Could have been four.

Key is Cunningham has to stay out of foul in order for the Kostas/Cunningham dou to be available. On the flip side,don't have to worry as much about Kostas fouls as he isn't going to log the same amount of minutes anyway.
