Davidson Game Thread

Outright A-10 Champs with a Win... McKillop's guys have been so inconsistent all year, outside of the SBU game recently, they have been terrible on the road in the A-10 this year.

Game is on Friday Night at 7 PM and will be shown on ESPN2.... Bob Wischusen, Dick Vitale & Holly Rowe on the call, special treat!

G 31 Kellan Grady 6’5” 205 JR Boston, MA
F 32 Nelson Boachie-Yiadom 6’8” 220 SO London, England
F 35 Luka Brajkovic 6’10” 250 SO Feldkirch, Austria

We all know they are led by the Grady (16.8 PPG) and Gudmundsson (14.0 PPG 7.3 RPG 4.6 APG)... Brajkovic can be a handful down low... Since Boachie-Yiadom has been inserted in the starting lineup, he's played really well.

It's all about being patient and very discipline when facing the Davidson offense.

Fairly similar teams, but fairly deliberate. Davidson shoots the 3 ball a little better, and takes them as a higher % of their offense. Davidson is a better free throw shooting team, but doesn't get there that often. They don't turn it over much, but don't force many turnovers either. Both are bad on the offensive boards, Dayton is much better defensively. Dayton is much better getting the ball into the paint and making shots around the rim.


Dayton needs to close out on shooters and limit the amount of open looks they get from distance. Force the action and draw fouls; get to the line and hit free throws. Cut down the nets.

Let me be the first to say that if we play like this, we are not going far in the NCAA Tournament. Let that be a warning to you all!

In an article on ESPN, the writer brought up the question of who is playing great basketball now. They used information for the month of February from BartTorvik. The 7th best adjusted efficiency in Feb. is Davidson.

This is a big time game. Number 4 on the season vs. No. 7 in Feb. And for Dayton, the outright regular season title is on the line. The Preseason poll had Dayton picked 3rd and Davidson picked 2nd. Davidson is finally doing what they were expected to do. They way both of these teams can hit threes and go on runs, I don't think either team will completely be out of the game, even if down by 10 or 15. This has all the makings of a memorable game.

Davidson is 9th in Off Eff in their last 10, 19th overall. Guess who's 7th and 11th respectively over their last 10?

I agree that Davidson is more than capable and unfortunately for the A10 they didn't put it together earlier in the season. I'm glad that it's at home because I'm not sure they are the same on the road as they are at home. I would also have to think we are somewhat better than they are defensively.

Dayton's matchup with Davidson is tailor made for Obi Toppin.

Went to the game at Davidson last year. Before the game the guy next to me was raving about their freshman, Brajkovic. I said we have a good one in Obi, and he replied, but our guy is really good for a frosh. Final: Obi with 18 pts, 12 rebounds and 3 assists and Brajkovic 2-5-0. Near the end of the game he said to me, your guy is darn good. Yes he is!

I saw that and thought that this game will probably be up on the screens of a lot of bars/restaurants around the country.

My biggest concern is the players staying focused. They have the top seed pretty much wrapped up but it appears that the focus hasn't been there the last few games. Sleep-walking through ho-hum victories. Davidson is playing very good basketball right now. AG can preach until the cows come home about staying focused but it has to come from inside the players. This is where Trey comes in. Trey needs to "remind" them they have the opportunity to go 18-0 in conference play!! One slip and a potential #1 seed is gone, as is a #2 seed IMO. I have all the confidence in the world that Trey, and to a lesser extent Mikesell, are doing this. I would love to hear some info on how the practices have been the past few weeks.

Obi has an unreal super night but Chatman is named the player of the game - and I could not agree more. Heck of a night for Rodney. By the way, he was the assist man for Obi on both of those back to back dunks in the second half.
