Top 100 Guard George Washington III decommits from OSU, he's the son of brand new UD Women's Assistant Coach George Washington... Playing his HS ball at Chaminade Julienne this year.

Sure would be nice to grab GWIII and Jazz Gardner. This team would be set for the next few years.

The decision of Washington III to decommit from tOSU makes me wonder. Did Washington II see something in the UD basketball program that made both he and III to believe being a Flyer might be a better choice? The timing seems very interesting to me.

Couple of things could be going on here:
Bronny was at the OSU/ND tilt this weekend. Bronny has been pretty quite thru his whole recruitment, but perhaps OSU coaches have a good feeling that he's wants to attend OSU. Allegeldy they are also pretty high on the list for some top 30 SG out of Minnesota I believe, which perhaps also plays a factor into either OSU's involvement with him or the way that Washington views his role at OSU.
Another factor could be any relationships he has built up in town since moving here. Certainly he's had some run in open Gyms with the rest of the team, and has meet CAG on multiple occasions. Perhaps he feels more comfortable with his fit @ UD. I mean we could hope.
Or perhaps some school somewhere promised him more NIL money than he could get at OSU and pulled the trigger on decommitting and will commit there sometime in the next few weeks.
No clue, but seems like UD could be in a good spot at the moment.

The consensus among Ohio State fans is GWIII was pushed out or "processed" in favor of Taison Chatman, a higher ranked recruit. Washington's stock has slid fairly signifcantly over the past year, and the belief among OSU insiders that this was in the works for a few weeks. Hard to say whether there was a difficult conversation with Holtman or Chatman and Bronny coming to campus, while Washington was also there, was the straw that broke the camel's back. Chatman is already receiving fresh predictions to commit to OSU.
GWIII seems like he'd be a good fit for UD. Hard to say at present whether there's any mutual interest.

Dayton’s will be in tomorrow for five-star senior George Washington III, a source told @Stockrisers. Virginia will come in to watch him on Monday. Just reopened his recruitment, former Ohio State pledge.

Plus, we have one of the best recruiters in the country on him as well... Go get him Coach Greer.

Med, I think you said it pretty well as he has probably developed a bond in open court games and off the court with the current UD team. Plus he perhaps was exposed to the TBT, Obi, Crutch and others, he’s probably thinking everything he seeks is right here. He did not grow up here, so I believe his perspective is totally different from most local recruits.

Just a heads up, seems like Jazz Gardner is heading elsewhere... Futurecasts/CBs are dropping for Texas Tech after his visit this past weekend to Lubbock.

Would like to have corralled this kid, but I’ve been curious as to why his stock has been dropping on the various recruiting sites. Down precipitously to 144 with Rivals, for example. Any clue as to why?

These services typically have ZERO inside info - they read tweets and guess. And if they guess correct - they claim the have sources. Lets wait until the 30th before we move on. Maybe Jazz will realize after his visit to TT - that Football is bigger than Basketball - and he would actually rather be at a school where BB is number 1. Again lets wait until Jazz makes a decision before moving on.

I hate to say it, but that is absolutely not true. Many of the people that work on these services have connections to programs, AAU coaches, and the recruits themselves. They have sources just like beat writers and other sports journalist.
You don't come out of a visit and immediately set a commitment date if its not that school. He gone. He is probably already committed, just waiting on his commitment graphic to be completed by Tipton or another guy that make commitment graphics.

When buying a house - it was not until we viewed another house did we know the one we wanted was the previous one we viewed. Just because he might had made a decision after a visit - does not mean it is that school he is picking. Again these services a lot of the "journalists" are just reading tweets and guessing. Guess we will find out on the 30th.

I’ve noticed this as well. I remember these ratings services had Holmes going to Marquette and didn’t even have the Flyers on the radar. It wasn’t until the day before he announced that UD started popping up on sites.

Remember, these guys aren’t remembered by how many they get wrong. There have been guys listed as Dayton hard lean or whatever and ended up elsewhere. A couple of scoops, and these guys may be able to convert that to more money. Does it really matter?

If that was the case, he would have continued to take visits like he said he was going to do and come back to a game at Dayton. Too much smoke on this one. He gone.
And these experts do more than just read tweets. They have connections. There is a reason many of these guys are 80-90% accurate on their crystal balls. They may not be as good at the rankings, but they do put in the work, whether you respect that or not. They are just as much a journalist as Jablo.

They do have connections, but they are 80-90% because they will switch their crystal at the very last minute prior to an announcement if/when they catch word of where a kid will commit. The crystal ball, generally speaking, isn't "here's my best guess" its more "here is what I'm hearing now, I'll change it if I hear something different tomorrow".
With that said, if he took the official, cancelled future visits elsewhere and is committing verbally in 2 weeks, then TT makes the most logical sense. I'll always hold out hope, but I won't hold my breath. If the Crystal balls start changing in a week and point towards UD, then I'll get excited again.

Yep….he’s going to change which school is best for him because a bunch of middle aged men who barely know how to use Twitter “like” his tweet….
If that were the case, which I seriously doubt, I’m not sure I’d want him to attend UD. At that point, it would be obvious he’s not serious; both as a player and student. Relax, whatever happens, happens. None of us having any influence in this…but, hey, feel better by “liking a tweet”.

Well you called that one, as Texas Tech is not even in his final 5.
All five are at least equal to or better than Ohio ST. Good for him!

You are mixing up Jazz Gardner and GWIII. Jazz Gardner is the player rumored to be going to Texas Tech.
George Washington III is the son of new UD women's assistant coach (according to posts above). GWIII decommitted from Ohio State and I love that you said UD is equal to or better than Ohio State.

Not sure if anyone has seen this. GWIII breaks down, in detail, what he likes about his top 5. In looking at this carefully, I think maybe his praise of Michigan and Juwan Howard makes me think that they might be in the lead, but it looks like he was going to perhaps visit Michigan or Louisville, but cancelled because the L-ville coach was going to visit him.
I sort of feel like he may be just listing Dayton out of courtesy. He and his dad have these connections to UD, and he's just being nice, like the guys at UD that he is hanging out with from time to time would be insulted if he didn't put UD's name in there. Not that this is bad, and I'm hoping I'm wrong, I'm I am inferring wildly, but there it is.

I read TT already has 2 guys committed that will be signing in Nov and only 1 open scholarship. If they sign Jazz, they would be 2 over the scholarship limit before silly season starts with all the transfers.

When the season is over and Duce is projected as a top 5 pick - Gardner will then commit to UD to replace Duce. That at least is what I am hearing from my sources.

He’d get more minutes at UofL or Wake Forest than he’d get at UD.

He’s from the same town as Kaleb Washington. In fact Kaleb played at the same HS thru his Jr year so I’m sure they know each other well.

There was a kid sitting behind the bench that looked like Simon. Also, not that it means anything, but George Washington III was at the game.

FWIW one of the recruiting sites lists him 100% to UD. His brother Yamari is also a recruit and some schools are trying to get both.

Vasean Allette would be a great get — maybe the best player in Canada. Has some ACC and Big East offers, also one from VCU. Hope he commits.

It would be a good start. If we don't get at least 7 point guards in this recruiting/transfer cycle, AG should be fired and never allowed to coach basketball again at any level, (not even Y league). That...was sarcasm.

Allette checks all the boxes. Position of need. Highly rated / regarded.
Seems like a good kid too: https://www.prospectiveinsight.com/post/vasean-allette
Hope we can get him.
As Chris mentioned, he would love to play with his twin brother, who is also a guard. If his brother can be a contributor off the bench, I wouldn’t mind both. We could stand to add multiple guards.

Not sure it will be a package deal as his twin has very few good offers. Allette has spoken of playing at a top program.

Possibly, but I am relying on some history - Jordan Sibert rotted on the bench at OSU, Ibi Watson rotted on the bench at Michigan. Yes, the part about there not being room at UD for GW III is somewhat sour grapes, but we will see what happens

UD has caught a few players on the rebound. They are recruited by a big-name school, but once the school feels like they have a better player, they stop investing in the original recruit.
That is why UD does not lose contact after they go elsewhere. Camara was recruited heavily by UD and rebounded from Georgia.

Not sure if it was an oversight or good reporting, but in a 247 article from two days ago Jazz Gardner listed nine teams and UD was not one of them.

Sounds like he might be headed to ODU (along with his brother)
They were the only 1 of his finalists to offer his bro, he isn’t UD level so not worth it to waste a schollie.
Oh well, next

Not sure what you are saying here. I looked at the tweets surrounding this guy and couldn't find any reference FROM HIM looking forward to a call from UD.
Maybe missing something ... the tweet was posted if I'm not mistaken by flyin to the hoops account.

Maki Johnson is a 4 star with great offers, including UD. A 6'4" guard who is rated #79 by ESPN. Not a great leaper or athlete, but a heck of a basketball player.

Maki Johnson retweeted the Flyin' to the Hoop tweet.
Johnson seems like a guy whose trajectory has stalled a bit. I think early in his high school career he was viewed as a top 50 guy in his class (and he has the offers to match that). It seems lots of folks have slowplayed his recruitment, and it doesn't appear he's a P5 recruit anymore.
Doesn't mean he's not a take for Dayton (we've certainly got available spots). Plays for a good (top 25-ish in the country) Huntington Prep program (where grad assistant Tyler Carter coached in the past). He's a 6'4" shooter (couldn't find much in the way of reliable statistics). He looks like he patterns his game after Tyler Herro.

Not a real good assumption. No need to dump on a kid and their decision when you are absolutely clueless as to why that decision was made? I'm pretty sure you would get kind of defensive should any of us dump on you for any of your decisions in your life especially not even knowing you.

What he got was a free college ride for his twin brother, Yamari. I think ODU was the only school to also offer his brother a scholarship. In fact, I’m not sure any other D1 school offered Yamari a ride because he’s just not that good. Vasean Allette wanted a package deal and he got it.

I saw Maki Johnson play at Flyin' to the Hoop twice this weekend. Has a good 3 point shot and is a smart player. He did not see the ball much as other players on Huntington Prep took most of the shots. Del Jones dominated shooting and scoring.
Johnson scored in double figures both games.

2023 F Michael Belle has continued his strong season for SIG Strasbourg in the French U21 League. Had 23PTS, 10REBS and 5ASTS in the win this weekend.
He told me Dayton is the school currently recruiting him the hardest.
One of the top international players in the ‘23 class.

Saw that on Twitter today. He could be a good one that not many have discovered yet.

I was wondering about the new European pipeline as well. I know we started recruiting foreign players before NIL. But not being able to participate in NIL might make them much less likely to be lured away and more attractive to teams like Dayton.

Greer is very influential in recruiting. Noticed that Comer was just listed in the top 20 asst. coaches on the rise as well in a Twitter post. He may be gone next year.

@Dorukaraca
Michael Belle’s speed and athleticism makes him one of the hardest players to defend in transition in Espoirs. A decent rebounder, tough defender especially off the ball, his passing and shooting also got much better. One of the best under-the-radar prospects in France
Video of him too

On July 16, 2022, he was hired as an assistant coach at Stetson.

Oakwood's Will Maxwell supposedly committed to UD this weekend...as a preferred walk-on.
