Exempt Tournaments
Since these tournaments have become the life blood of the program, does anyone know what are our future arrangements?
Also, is it legal to be in two of these tournaments if you actually count all of the games in the second tournament? Likely would get better opponents if that were the case.

Maui this year, Puerto Rico classic next year (which is I believe still played in South Carolina). No idea beyond that.

Did you mean “San Juan”? I was there back in 2014.

I thought it was called the Puerto Rico Tipoff. Moved to Coastal Carolina after hurricane Maria a couple years ago. Pretty sure UD is scheduled for that tournament in 2020.

It looks like the Tip-off may have been replaced by the Myrtle Beach Invitational (2020 could be interesting as Memphis will be there)
2018: ESPN is adding an early season college basketball event to its roster this year with the Myrtle Beach Invitational. The new event will take place November 15, 16 and 18, at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
“We are excited to launch the Myrtle Beach Invitational,” said Pete Derzis, ESPN senior vice president of college sports programming and ESPN Events. “After collaborating with Visit Myrtle Beach and the city of Myrtle Beach to move last year’s Puerto Rico Tip-Off to the area due to the effects of Hurricane Maria, we saw first-hand the community’s outstanding facilities and passion for college basketball. Based on that experience, we determined that Myrtle Beach would be an ideal location for college basketball teams and their fans to visit each November.”

@ChrisDobbertean
Yesterday, the NCAA moved forward with a proposal that would alter multi-team events for men's D1 college hoops, and overall scheduling as a result. If approved, the changes will start in 2020-21 and make things MUCH easier for fans to understand.
@ChrisDobbertean
2/5 Basically, this means there would be no more Maui on the Mainland or Battle 4 Atlantis/Cayman Islands Classic campus games, since 8 teams in a bracket can play a three-round tournament easily.
@ChrisDobbertean
3/5 Events like the Cancun Challenge that are currently two on-campus games and two neutral games, would likely drop the on-campus portion.
@ChrisDobbertean
4/5 Other exempt event rules would remain in place. Most notably, the "one team per event per conference" and "teams can only play in an event once every four seasons" restrictions.
A quick look at what these changes would mean (1/5):
Teams will be able to schedule in one of three ways:
A. 28 games PLUS a three-game multi-team event (MTE) for 31 total games
B. 29 games PLUS a two-game MTE for 31 total games
C. 29 games period with no MTE participation

I believe this adds an additional non-con game to the schedule for most teams. A bit of help for non-con scheduling.

It still tops out at 31 games, the big takeaway is that buy games like Coppin State last year or the Maui on the Mainland one this year are done away with
Theoretically it could open some room in the schedules of the schools who like to play the 2 buy game, 2 neutral game tourneys
