A-10 Finals coming to UD Arena

https://daytonflyers.com/news/2021/2...hip-dates.aspx

Men's and Women's Finals. Men's Tourney to start March 3rd--I guess that means no VCU game then.

Winning 4 games in 4 days of course is a silly long shot. But 3 games in 3 days... maybe not but one can dream. Then to have a one game play-in for the NCAAT at our home court would be most interesting.... Hey- something to look forward to in this crazy season.

Does that mean that that all the teams with greater than 60% of the median number of conference games will be seeded above the ones below?

So in this seating scenario, where are we now? Ninth 10th sixth? I have no idea.

From the daytonflyers.com link:

The women's championship site remains unchanged, with all games played in Richmond, Va.

So it said 60% of median number of games played. Median is the middle, which is currently 11 games, so 60 percent is 6.6 games. So only George Washington (5) and Saint Louis (6) are below that so NET rankings for them. It's possible if Saint Louis gets another 2 games, and the median goes up that much, Saint Louis would be based on percentage.

So after tomorrow’s St. Louis game, we play Saint Bonaventure. we currently do not have another game scheduled through the end of February. I’m wondering if our game against Richmond will be put into a Friday or Saturday slot and they will move things around? We obviously won’t play VCU on the third but we’ve already played them twice so the point is moved.

No, they should be placed at highest a 2 seed but below where the teams are ahead of them in NET. I am not sure exactly how this looks because the NET isn't always going to align with itself if you take the standings as a whole, but my guess is they will put SLU ahead of all the teams except the conference title and make them a de facto 2 seed, amd Fordham should be ranked 14 behind SJU, unless like some have said if they can get to enough scheduled games.

Dayton Final Game

is based on the assumption that UD will not qualify for the game IMO.

even if we do, there probably won’t be fans, so what difference would it make? We haven’t exactly been gangbusters at home with an empty gym this year. Teams ain’t scared. it will be at our venue because we have good camera angles/Hosted NCAA games before, and the winning team or even both teams may be depending on who’s in the game, can get on their own bus, drive 90 minutes west on 70, and be quarantined in the host city before the selection Sunday show begins.

In regards to the seedings, anyone know how it looks today? Its so convoluted, it seems possible that St. Louis could have the same or lower conference winning percentage and be seeded higher than Dayton.

We are 4-4 on the road and 8-3 at home.

As has been said before, home court is not only about fans. There is familiarity of the floor, shooting background and rims. There is sleeping at home and eating at home.

Ny and other states are beginning to allow small percentages of fans.
What's the story in Va. And Ohio at this point? Any hope for 30 % by March 3rd perhaps ?

This morning, a plan was approved to permit the Columbus blue jackets to have 10% capacity at home games which equals somewhere in the neighborhood of 1900 fans. So, using the same formula for the University of Dayton, that would mean 1300-ish could go if the proper permits are filed. This of course assumes the University and the Atlantic 10 would be OK with this. I have a funny feeling that decision may be highly influenced depending on who is in that game. if we are in it, I would propose allowing students to go to the games for the simple fact that they are on campus and contact tracing could be done very easily. It also avoids political wars around which season-ticket holder‘s get tickets and which ones don’t. not to mention, as discussed on another thread, they could basically say to students, here are your seats, there are no concessions, no bells and whistles, you get in, watch the game, route like hell, and get out. if they allow season-ticket holders, they will want the flight deck open, and all of the amenities they are used to. That’s just my opinion though.

Saw that as well. Good question on UD or A10 calling the shots on attendance. Gut is A10 would push for no fans. IF fans allowed, seems like offering to students (seniors first) would be route to go. Of course no student interest if UD isn’t in the final

Here’s a link to a Cincinnati Inquirer article on Zavier’s request for increased seating capacity.

https://www.cincinnati.com/story/spo...er/4472753001/

Neil was supposedly going to request the same variance but it appears that he didn’t, since I believe these requests are rubber stamped once they pass local muster. That said, this article gives you insight into what the maximum attendance at UD Arena would be.

Note - has anyone else been to a game this season to gauge what actual attendance has been? As I posted earlier, the attendance at the LaSalle game was 125 - at best.

And I would venture to say that if UD filed, and get it, the tickets will be allotted for the schools playing...

Sorry...for the average UD fan and season ticket holder, your chances of stepping foot in UD arena for anything are slim and probably not happening.

It isn't worth the civil war between season ticket holders. The ST holders that I personally know that have been in the arena have not advertised, other than a random photo on social media, that they have even been in for a game.

At this rate, fans will be lucky to be in the Arena as we once knew it for the 21-22 season...and if that happens there will be mutiny after everyone giving their "donations" this year and seeing nothing.

Saw yesterday that we’re 5th in the standings, 1-1/2 games behind Bona. We’ve played 3 more games, and lost them all (8-6 vs. 8-3).

And that’s going to be the really weird part. It’s entirely possible that the team with the most wins in conference play could be seeded 3rd or 4th because their record (ex. 13-2) is worse, percentage-wise, than another’s (ex. 8-1).

In addition, some teams will have played only the bottom teams. Example is Umass who is in the top 2 percentage wise but have only beaten Fordham, Joes and RI. Very uneven.

People who are three weeks past receiving their second vaccine should be let in to all events in every state. No scientific reason not to.

I need to know about ticket allotment in Richmond so that I can make plans. Big East has announced theirs, and that's in NY. Also, finding it absurd that we can have this convo, but outdoor soccer games are still off limits to fans. Granted they do not want 3,000 people on campus at the same time but I would think the conference could make these events ticketed and advise people to get their reservation online and ask fans to respect the distancing and try to limit the food/bev consumption and use two porta-johns so maybe people will avoid congregating around indoor facilities. Really just not fair to the athletes who can't now have their parents watching.

Whether or not UD or A10 is "OK with this" matters little. Yes, they would have to submit their plan for allowing X number of spectators (entry/exit, social distance, seating, concessions, etc), but it's Sheriff DeWine's posse who will ultimately decide. To date, they've rejected every plan for a variance that UD has submitted.

I haven't spent that much time on it but, I think the Flyers still have a legit shot at a top 4 finish if they go 2-0 to finish the regular season.

Which I don’t understand since Dewine approved 15% for the Cavs which is 2700 fans.

And yet the professional teams in Ohio have received variances. Also, what sense does it make to allow 15% of capacity or 300, whichever is less. That means a 2000 seat arena could have 300 fans while a 13,000 seat arena could also have only 300 fans.

We haven't seen a simulation yet on where we could finish in the A-10. Where are the geniuses when we need them? Just curious if we could finish 4th.

Remember to that the local health department has to approve things. So, it could be Montgomery county saying no. That is, unless you all know something I don’t. That’s quite possible by the way.

Montgomery County has been last to the mat in almost all changes that the state has made. They didn't change their contact tracing for schools (In December) for over a week and a half after the CDC changed their tune.

From Richmond Dispatch's interview with A-10 Commissioner McGlade.

Question: Was the A-10 committed to that March 14 title-game window on CBS, and is that why the championship will be decided at Dayton, to avoid teams having to travel back to Richmond a week after the semifinals, and then allowing the A-10 champion to bus to Indianapolis for the start of the NCAAs?

Answer: No, ironically that was not the rationale for that decision. Ironically, the decision was once we decided we were going to bring the championship back a week, CBS is a great partner and the value of that window on selection Sunday is meaningful to the league, and we actually were talking about potentially playing that game at the higher seed of the two championship teams.

During that discussion with our board, the athletic directors, Dayton volunteered. They offered their building and said it was available. And when they offered their building, the conversation then transitioned to, “Wow, that’s interesting. That’s a great opportunity.” And then it was an added value when somebody said that in addition, the proximity to Indianapolis for our [automatic qualifier] would be additionally helpful.

The momentum then moved to, “Great, Dayton would be a great host. They’re willing to host. Their facility is available.” And there was literally no objection to that.

For those that hate on UD for their coordination with the NCAA First Four, when it may hurt UD during an NIT bid, this is precisely why you build and foster those relationships. Everyone sees what UD has to offer in terms of facilities and facility management.

Some may not see small things like this as a big deal, but they are in the scheme of things. UD even hosting the state HS championship games is a big get and it means that people respect the university. This is a big kudos to Neil, Scott Debolt, and Patrick Donnelly for running a first class facility.

Thumbs up Got my tickets!

Purchased tickets for the A10 Finals today.

We've been attending the tournament since 1999. The "No Fans" announcement was made after we arrived in Brooklyn last year. We didn't go to the Wednesday games.

Very excited to be going to the Arena to watch live college basketball no matter who is playing.

For some reason I thought there was a separate thread at one point about digital tickets next year for UD. I have always hated the idea of digital tickets ever since my wife and daughter had a problem that took 45 minutes to fix getting into Lucas Oil a couple years back. I sure hope UD has a good back up plan for if the system crashes like at the Ohio State football game this past weekend. Many students missed the entire first quarter.

Cameraman caught my daughter and her roommate on the above video, right after one of Franklin Counties finest hopped the rail and picked the roommate off the ground from all the pushing. Luckily no injuries.

Cameraman caught my daughter and her roommate on the above video, right after one of Franklin Counties finest hopped the rail and picked the roommate off the ground from all the pushing. Luckily no injuries.
They are forcing people to get a smartphone, there should be a paper-based ticket option imo, I hate that they are doing this.

Not everyone wants a smartphone.

Glad the roommate is ok.
