Coppin State Game Thread
Solid start vs. North Florida without Josh, let's keep it going this weekend versus the Eagles. I would be surprised if #0 plays, don't force it. Coppin lost 85-63 at Wisconsin in their first game.
Game is at 7 PM on Saturday Night and will be shown on Spectrum and ESPN+.
Starting Lineup:
G 13 DeJuan Clayton 6’2” 185 RS SO Bowie, MD
G 2 Taqwain Drummond 6’4” 185 SO Newport News, VA
G 22 Lamar Morgan 6’6” 200 SR Willingboro, NJ
F 1 Chad Andrews-Fulton 6’7” 215 SR Philadelphia, PA
F 5 Cedric Council 6’8” 220 SR Kennesaw, GA
Morgan is their best player (scored 15 against WIS and averaged a team leading 12.3 PPG last year)
They are not good lol
Go UD!

Jordan is a man!
That stat on Davis is unbelievable. Last year 23 free throws attempted, this year in 1+ game, 9.

I understand what you are saying -- but 4 turnovers (typical of 1st year players) and zero rebounds (not what we need to see) tells me there is work to be done especially on the boards. He will get there.

How bad is Wisconsin? Coppin St played pretty well against them. Only 8 fans predicted Coppin would score in the 50's. Everyone else in the 60-70s. They will be lucky to get out of the 40s -- AG going to the walk-ons should help.

Grant has him playing outside, so when a shot goes up, he is retreating. On the Coppin end, they throw up so many bricks that there are no rebounds underneath. Last game someone criticized Obi's rebounding in the first half, and he ended with 10.
Obi was given 4 turnovers, but two should have gone to others for not catching a catchable pass.

Half time ctitique on the sreaming. Someone needs to monitor the sound broadcast. I've had to go from +18 to +92 on the sound every few minutes or mute entirely to avoid hearing problems when commercials come on.

Gotta like their intensitiy. I noticed CAG getting in their grill on an early timeout in first half when they already opened a lead. Setting expectations!

I am very impressed with Cohill for a freshman. To show you where this program is going recruiting wise, unless there are injuries, he may not start till his senior year, if then.

So now I'm really curious about Policelli. Is he hurt? Is he in the dog house? Is he just not any good? I hope someone asks AG directly.

I think the answer is none of the above... this was a game he should of played, so I am guessing 99% chance he will be red shirted, like Obi... Frankie is only 18 years old... I'm guessing red shirt

I concur with others that he will be red-shirted. He is big guy who just needs to work on his strength and ball-handling.

I don’t know. In today’s world with all the transferring, I say let him play and see what he can do. Can’t see a kid sticking around for 5 years.

Dunno. See “Mikesell, Ryan” or “Cunningham, Josh”. Also, he has a great example to follow in Toppin. Obi sat a year (albeit for a different reason), and look at him now. Plus, if you look at the 3-5 slots, we have 1 Senior and 3 Juniors among the 6 who could play those roles without having Crutcher, Davis, and Cohill on the court at the same time. I think Frankie is still pretty slender for a 6’7” guy. If he redshirts, gains some muscle, and works on ball handling and shooting/moves, he could be seeing 15 or more minutes a game next year, and 25+ as a Sophomore. Not a bad trade off.

Mikesell sat out for medical reasons. I would rather have seen him playing last season than next season. Cunningham sat out as a transfer. Can't imagine last season without him but we probably would have been better off with him playing his transfer year than this year. Toppin sat out for academic reasons. He could have contributed last year. It is not going to get easier for Policelli going forward. I'd rather see what he can contribute this year when we are thin than wait another year.
All that said, I trust the coaching staff to be doing the right thing for the kid and the team.

Coppin was 4 of 22 for 18.2% against us, 11 of 29 for 37.9% against Wisc.
