Drake's Coach checks in on the game
A few nice compliments and some valiant efforts to put lipstick on a pig. Or in this case a Bulldog.
"This is a really good Dayton team, but losing by 30 isn't the result we wanted," said Drake head coach Darian DeVries. "But you could see in the second half why they're so explosive and have a lot of ways to get you and get ahead in a hurry. That's what they did to us and what they've done to a lot of people. We just have to keep getting better and I know we can do that."
The game was typical of what we are going to see in games with a +16 spread. Their coach admitted Drake wanted the game to be ugly so they could stay close. I thought from 18-18 the game was just fine.
Except for the BS technical on Obi.

I've run out of compliments for our team. We are really good and I think Obi is getting even better (defense and rebounding).

It looks to me as if several players are getting better, or getting more comfortable and successful in their particular role.

They were in your face, lot of trash talking trying to provoke Obi. One instant there were Obi and another Flyer jawing at two Drake players before the ref took note and separated them.
Grant called Obi over and had a talk with him. Drake was trying to get in his head and it was working a little.

Not the only time he'll see that this year, or in his pro career. Hope AG is preparing him for that aspect of his game.

Agreed. I think that Grant said that the team is maturing. There is improvement across the board, but I took extra notice of Obi last night. He had a very well rounded game last night. He has great hands. There is rarely a pass that he cannot handle.

When Obi goes up for a rebound his timing is awesome and his arms are so long he looks like a freakin condor.

He is amazing a grabbing even difficult passes with ease. After that, he adjusts his body to the situation around the basket.
If his hands have a problem, its that they stick to the rim when he dunks

If you haven't noticed, the other players on the team have gotten accustomed to Obi's great hands and have tried to do similar things with Jordy...and it has been a turnover disaster.
