Kollars Does It Again
According to DDN top notch "sports writer" Brian Kollars, the ovation received by Pierre during the Arkansas game "tells me UD has taken a big step toward becoming a win-at-all-costs program." He must know nothing about the circumstances surrounding DP's situation. He apparently knows nothing about Title IX. Or he is simply trying to cause controversy in order to get more readers. Or he is simply an idiot. I wonder how he would feel if he had a son in the same situation.

Disperse, please disperse - Nothing to see here. Geez was the ink even dry yet?
I'm beginning to think you are Kollars tying to get some free pub for yourself.
You do realize that Kollars:
1. Offered his opinion as opinion
2. Is trying to sell newspapers
3. Does not work for UD
4. Offered up a reasonable interpretation of the applause
Funny thing is you provided an implied interpretation of said applause and are guilty of doing the same thing you are harping on him for.
Give it a rest. Don't stalk him if you don't like what he writes.

Not all the time. I just recently cancelled my DDN subscription after 31 years. I had enough of Kollars and the ridiculously weak paper. I don't miss it at all. My wife misses the ads tough. Consider it a double money saver.

I didn't know that UD fans get to vote on disciplinary actions involving student-athletes at UD. Conclusion - only an idiot would write applause amounts to a vote.
Clearly the suspension did NOT equal a "win-at-all-costs" environment at UD. Conclusion - only an idiot would forget the fact UD suspended this athlete.
He is entitled to his opinion, as am I. He's an idiot.

"Win at all costs" is a ****ing public statement about the Flyer' basketball program and its' supporters...even if only an opinion.
Why would that not be worthy of a rebut?
OTOH...we do, at times, tend to nitpick an issue to death.
Thanks for your opinion!

If Kollar's "applause-logic" is correct, does it mean that if enough UD fans cancel their subscriptions, does that mean the DDN has moved from employing real journalists and putting out a reputable newspaper to moving to a paper that competes with the National Enquirer?
Let the cancellations and applause continue.

"I’ve been asked about the ovation Flyer fans gave Dyshawn Pierre when he checked into the Arkansas game. I’m neutral on Pierre; maybe he’s an Eagle Scout, maybe he’s not. But I understand where the fans are coming from. Their reaction tells me UD has taken a big step toward becoming a win-at-all-costs program. And that’s OK."
For being an investigative journalist I don't think he's read the report. I don't know anyone who would think this girl did anything but have buyers remorse.

The 'win-at-all' mantra was embraced and cemented in place but the Athletic Department Labor Day weekend of '14 when Robinson was suspended but the only thing we were told was that he had a sprained ankle (that happened while running away from XXXXX).
So while thy royal IQ comprehends and understands exactly what Kollars is saying, to me it was water way, way way under the bridge.
For the record, had I been at the game I would have applauded Pierre's return. Not because I'm a jock-sniffer, but because he paid his penalty and, like everyone and anyone else, it's time to move on.
There. I said it. With the royal opinion firmly established in writing for all to admire, TonyT can now close this thread - just like he did the other - and we, like Pierre, can continue to move forward.

Kollar's implication of win at all costs was on the fans that stood and applauded Pierre. That also implied that Pierre did not deserve to be back. If he had the nads, he should have written something about the '14 Labor Day incident at that time because I am sure he had the inside story.

I applauded him because he deserved it after falling victim to a sham process. I did enough "investigative journalism" to come to that conclusion based on all public records that the media types had access to. I don't support "win at all costs". I support fair and equal treatment of all students, athletes or not. Based on the fact I think he got screwed, he got the ovation. Other players from UD over the past few years coming back off of suspensions didn't even get a golf clap...once again from my personal analysis of the circumstances, not others.

Is it just me... Why does this matter? A weirdo "reporter" who works for the Dayton Daily Rag which has a viewership of half of this website +4 people made a comment. No one outside of a 5 mile radius of where he penned his opinion even saw it.
The guy is trying to get an extra 5 listeners so his podcast next year makes him an extra 17 cents in 2016.

If you (and those giving you props) actually believe this you have not followed BK for very long. Being a "liberal" myself, his very conservative, right-wing remarks that he use to make made me believe he should be on the editorial page. Over the last couple of years he's toned things down a lot (at least focused on sporting thoughts).
If he's "insane", it is NOT due to any liberalism. I'd guess his "voting record" is a lot closer to yours than mine.

I was at the game and I stood and applauded. As you stated perfectly: he paid his penalty.

Clapping is classy.
Fawning, drooling, defending and making that vein in the top of your forehead explode is 'sniffing'.

It's taken me 4 long years to get it that way.

No one is going to pick up on this? Mr. Kollars? Other players have been suspended for putting people's lives at risk (drunk driving in the Ghetto) and did not receive an ovation that I remember. Other players have been suspended for the mysterious "violation of team rules" and received no ovation.
DP received an ovation because people think he got screwed, and he stuck it out.
