WEST BLOOMFIELD (MI) -- In his 1973 album
There Goes Rhymin’ Simon songwriter Paul Simon included a ditty called “One Man’s Ceiling Is Another Man’s Floor” and that about sums up the situation with your Dayton Flyers.
The VCU game marked the near pinnacle of perfection in basketball execution for the Red and Blue. About the only thing that could have made it better is if Joey Gruden had nailed
both of his three point attempts. At the same time, it is safe to say that not much, if any, of the Dayton tilt will make it on to the Rams’ highlight reel for their 2017-2018 campaign.
Conversely, the UD/
Duquesne game, which I had the misfortune to witness in person, represents the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel in terms of watchability for Flyer Fans. However, Dukes coach Keith Dambrot will have a hard time editing that game film down to a manageable timeframe at the end of their season.
The fact of the matter is that the Flyers are not as good as they looked vs. VCU nor as bad as they seemed against the Dukes – the truth lies somewhere in between. The key will be for AG’s guys to mimic their effort vs. the Rams and avoid the pitfalls of their performance in Pittsburgh.
Coach Grant pretty much said the same thing when he cautioned Flyer fans as well as his team that “we haven’t arrived”:

Let’s face it, the Atlantic 10 this year is about as wide open as it has ever been – on any given night anyone can be beaten, even
Rhode Island:

One only has to look at Wednesday’s opponent St. Joe’s. The Hawks are 2-3 but their two wins are against
SBU and VCU, two very good teams that UD has also beaten.
SJU has lost two in a row and the game is at Hagan Arena where the Flyers are basically 0 for the 21st century,
but who knows?

-- Did you know that it is perfectly legal to goal tend on an inbounds pass in the NBA? Neither did the rest of the league until the Phoenix Suns pulled it off at the buzzer in a game against the Grizzlies:
