Welcoming Bacon to UD
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team and head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter have announced the addition of Christina Bacon to the staff.
“If being a basketball coach is the heartbeat of a program, then being the director of basketball operations is the brain,” said Coach Williams-Jeter. “They keep the boat moving forward and I really feel that Christina is that for us. At the University of North Florida, she did everything from camps, clinics, to filming practice and handling all travel operations. She had great references in Holly Warlick and Amanda Butler at Clemson along with many other people that are very prestigious in our business. Christina has spent most of her life, all of her professional life in the state of Florida so coming up here to Ohio was something out of her normal comfort zone. But she really believes in what we have from the administration standpoint and the support that we get in how we want to impact young people and really bought into it. She’s betting the house on the University of Dayton basketball. We love her and are excited to have her.”
“It only took one conversation with Coach Meek to know that I wanted to be led by her,” said Bacon. “The people make the place and I am excited to not only be a part of the family we create as a staff with this team, but also the Dayton community as a whole. I’ve heard nothing but great things about being a Flyer.”
Bacon comes to Dayton after spending the last four seasons at the University of North Florida.
Prior to joining the Ospreys, she was part of the 2018 SEC Women's Basketball Leadership Team and worked as an athletic director for Girls Place which is a non-profit organization in Gainesville, Fla. She was tasked with managing and supervising five sports during the school year, while also overseeing sports clinics throughout the summer. Bacon had a hand in fostering sponsorships and community partnerships in her role with Girls Place.
In addition to Girls Place, Bacon had a seven-year role with the University of Florida. Most recently, she assisted the communications department, serving as a game manager for the team for two seasons.
Before her time as a manager, Bacon was part of the Gators team for seven years that saw her contribute to the overall success of the program. She served as a Video Coordinator Assistant, an Equipment Manager and most recently a Graduate Assistant. A few of her responsibilities included the management of travel, recruit visits, game operations and team equipment.
Bacon is a two-time graduate of Florida with a bachelor's of science in anthropology in 2014 and a master's in recreation management in 2016.
