New Orleans geting a little los t out there. Think its combinations and lots of new young players.
Brian just took first shot i saw, adn missed from three.
HOwever, is ball handling is so much improved and solid.
He looks so much quicker in general and on Defense.
He's moving the ball and directing traffic well on offense. played ten minutes straight.
Looks much better than Austin Rivers.

Brian cuts well, sees the lanes, knows how to setup the pick n roll at top of key.
austin rivers does not .
i have to see more of Greivis Vazques. Stats say he had 12 points, so i missed most of those.
will def watch second half. it's break now.
I like Brian's chances after seeing this.

What I see doesn't bode well for BRob. This looks like regular season minutes, and he's not seeing the floor much. He looks small against this Miami lineup but he's holding his own. I think Rivers has been given as much leash as he wants. We will see but I don't see Rivers getting benched much for poor play, in lieu of learning on the go.

Roberts isn't selfish enough to be on that team. Hopefully that is recognized because he looks fast, under control, and a leader out there with a bunch of gunslingers. That being said, Rivers has a ton of skill and can play. It seems he's going to hurt himself out of the lineup before anything.

Brian does need to be slightly more selfish, looking for his shot.
On some ball rotations, he's too far away from the ball to receive and release quick shot. Two other times he took decent looks, but missed.

There are links to two more articles about BR at the end of this one. One has a link to a video interview. Their coach expressed pleasant surprise at the way Roberts played in the summer league and in the pre-season. Getting minutes is going to be challenging. I hope he gets his chance.

Congrats to BRob as he has made the most out of his opportunity and it appears he wants more. Hoping the other former Flyers stay at it and can catch on with other NBA teams. I recall the poll in another thread asking among the former Flyers in NBA training camps who had the best shot at making a final roster I picked Roberts because of his professional experience which he excelled.

Brob should get plenty of action. I noticed at the end of the Miami exhibition game they had both he and Vasquez in together and Brian was at the 2 spot. I anticipate a rotation of Brob, Rivers and Vasquez as they are really the only true guards right now.

He has seen some "action"
He made it into the game...for the last 9 second of the half. No action on the stat line.

Wouldn't read anything into the minutes Brian gets. Think the Hornets know pretty well what they have with him. They have other mysteries to solve.

Vasquez sure didn't look good in the final minute with the game on the line. He was fumbling the ball around and missed a big shot.

Played the 9 seconds in the first half. Nothing on the stat linebut blew his defensive assignment. Went under ball screen for Parker ( which was probably how they wanted to play it) but sagged in the lane and didn't coles out on Bonner ( certainly not how it was intended ).
I expect a year like Wright with lots of DLeague time. Vaszquez, Rivers, Mason and Miller get the perimeter minutes.

Mercifully, his dismal preseason ended the last game. This was the first regular season game
and he is officially off to a .11 start for shooting %.

I have not watched an NBA game in years, but I did tune in at the beginning of the 3rd quarter last night in hopes of getting a glimpse of Brob playing. Now I remember why I don’t watch the NBA…. The Spurs looked pretty uninterested in what they were doing till the last 2 and ½ minutes…. then Duncan goes for 3 straight dunks …. Parker drains a wide open 3 …. and Duncan makes 2 free throws. Game over…. They put out zero effort until the last minutes…
And Brob never took off the warm-ups…. Pretty sad! Probably won’t do that again………

Thats is why a DVR is your friend. I record any Flyer-related NBA game and simply fast forward until I see the player in which I am interested enter the game. The NBA is dreadful.

Hope Mr. Roberts gets a real chance this season. I've always enjoyed watching him and hope he gets a chance to shine....even though I root for that team to the south. I loved his high school teammate....but would have been happier if X had gotten Roberts instead. No trash talk...no nothing....just daggers. Hated playing against him....loved watching him. Good luck.

I think that the nba is missing the great great rivalries of the past. But, if the celtics can supplant the heat it will be a year to remember. Those teams are close to hating each other, especially after allen left. IF the celtics can knock the heat out of the playoffs I predict that will be the most watched series in a very long time.

If you like watching 4 minutes of effort packed into a 48 minute game, then the NBA is for you. Plus each team having about 100 timeouts at the end of every game pretty much sucks all of the suspense out of it.

The NBA (as a rule) is about athleticism and showcasing individuals rather than teamwork and fundamentally sound basketball (which is what I would consider great basketball)

This is what I was afraid of. In the opener, Austin Rivers goes 1/9, 2 assists and 3 t/o. BRob gets zero minutes. They're going to play Rivers regardless of performance.

When you are drafted that high and make that much money, you play. It will take till his second year before Rivers plays himself out of the rotation. Especially since the Hornets aren't going anywhere and ate playing for lottery position.

I agree, but since the other folks are high priced, they will play first. As the season wears on and injuries mount Brob will get some minutes.

I wouldn't wish for too much too early for Brian. There are many athletic and strong point guards in the NBA. I could see Brian spelling Vesquez (sp?) for a bit, and being matched up against other team's second level point guard. He could get spot duty at the 2, but he is giving up size at that position. His minutes could come from other's injuries, but that's not a good scenario either.
Being pressed into duty against the likes of Chris Paul, Westbrook, Rondo, Nash, Parker ad naseum is a bit of a stretch and can expose warts in a hurry.

Preseason is all about picking the last 3 spots on the roster. Roberts is fifth in the rotation at guard. Third at point. I would be very surprised if he gets 10 minutes a game anywhere in the NBA right now. 13 through 15 on the roster are typically DNP-CD. It is what it is. 19 year old first round draft picks play over 26 year old rookies regardless of production.

Was switching among the Hornets/Bulls and 3 awesome BCS football games (with occasional flipping over to "Rudy") which led me to miss B-rob's 5-minute stint in the 1st half (when he went 0-5: ouch!). But I managed to check in as he stuck the final 2 FT daggers in a New Orleans upset. Also managed 3 boards. Keep hanging in there, Brian!

Big difference between pre-season and regular. Ryan Mallett hasn't taken a snap but led the Pats in passing in the pre-season.

Finished 3-9 for 7 Pts and 3 ast and a rebound in 19 min. Not great but at least he hit a couple shots. I keep waiting for him to just go off.

He may well have a breakout game, but on a night-to-night basis he is going to see intensity that he never saw in summer league and pre-season. On the floor he looks small, but at least he is thin. Seriously, with Davis and Eric Gordon not on the floor, the Hornets have no chance. BRob is seeing some tough duty, as well as Vasquez. NBA website was not kind to Brian this morning. Pointed out his 4/16 start. Holiday is a big guard for the Sixers--I assume that's who was defending Brian.

That was a horrific game of basketball to watch. Roberts didn't show very well. I'm starting to get nervous for him.

That Nola team I saw last night (granted I only saw parts of the 3rd and about half of the 4th) looked terrible. Turnovers galore, couldn't hit the broad side of the barn, no defense, poor rebounding, stupid decisions...
Good news..the last 4 minutes or so when Brian was running the point, the team was +8 (never mind that philly had gone to shut down mode) Brian looked fairly decent in the last 5-6 min I got to see him play at the end of the 4th, however he looks very, very small out there compared to the other gaurds, gonna be hard for him to make a career of it, still happy for him though that he's at worst made it this far and no one can take that away from him. I hope he proves me wrong and forges a 8-10 year career.

I saw enough to watch a quick 18' stop and pop jumper that looked very BRob-ish. Apparently I missed the bad parts. I saw maybe 5 minutes of game time, I believe in the 2nd quarter. I agree though, what I saw was an ugly game!
We all know he has potential. Hopefully he can make his mark...

BRob's main skill has always been the ability to make shots. However, his short stature and slight build certainly work against his having a long tenure in the league.

He could make shots and he could create his own space in D1, and maybe in Germany also.
But these NBA guards are really tough on a guy his size. In a strange sort of way, I think Brian's best shot is if Vasquez becomes really good, and Rivers starts to show he can be an NBA player and also stay healthy. That would solidify BRob's place as a capable 10/15 minute/game NBA backup.

Reminds me of a quote I heard recently referring to football, but ap;plicable here. The question was asked if Alabama could beat any NFL teams. The reply: Alabama has some players who can play in the NFL. As bad as the Kansas City Chiefs are, all of their players are playing in the NFL.
Some exceptionally talented players make the transition to the NBA look seemless, but there is a big difference when it comes to the complete talent pool.
From what I saw of the game, BRob struggled at times, but for the most part, he didn't look completely out of place. There was one play where he got caught on a defense switch and one of the Sixers big men abused him in the post, but that would have happened to any guard.

Roberts looked like a serviceable NBA bench player and I think he looked much better in the 2nd half compared to the 1st half. He can hit shots but he lacks size and elite quickness. However, if NOLA gets their studs back, that should take some pressure of Roberts to do what he does and hit open shots. Vasquez is bigger and quicker, and probably a better passer, but he plays out of control and doesn't seem to shoot all that well.

His first basket was a 19-footer at the 9:27 mark of the 2nd quarter.
His 3-pointer came at 6:00 mark of the 4th qtr. Your first post was made long before the 4th qtr started.
Regardless, I thought Roberts looked very good. He attacks the basket, passes to open teammates and chases down loose balls. He is no doubt one of the smallest players on the team, but that also gives him a slight advantage with spacing as many defenders will sag off him figuring they can defend him from a distance and still clog the lane. His quick jumper should be there if he can catch and shoot.
The one time he tried to penetrate and shoot, his double pumped shot got rejected with no effort by the 76ers 6'11" center. Roberts should know better than to try that.

The Hornets as a team are not shooting well, and the guards are leading the way. The Hornets have no one healthy that would require a double team, so good shots are coming hard. Double-edged sword in making an NBA roster on a bottom feeder team. Easier to get on the team, but difficult to look good when you are on it.

Its so easy to pull so hard for this kid. Hes undersized, he's not as highlight-reel as some prospects, but he just executes what hes best at. He did not take the path of least resistance to get to the NBA. He's had to work for every inch. Makes his success in games like this all the more satisfying. This guy practically worked miracles in a UD uniform for 4yrs with not enough help and defenses loading up on him to make it an unfair fight.

It's going to be all about match ups for BRob because of his size. I just hope, like this game, that when he gets his shot that he capitalizes. Proud of the man!

The Hornets traded F Hakim Warrick to Charlotte for SG Matt Carroll. This move ws made to clear more minutes for the NOLA frontline guys rather than shore up a backcourt deficiency.

Carroll was basically a no-show for the Mavs one season. This might be a trade that gives up some players who aren't happy in a backup role in exchange for a player who values that role.
Interesting twist with Austin Rivers as the experiment with him as a point guard has taken a back seat. He is now focusing on being a SG which is interesting since he has shown no propensity to shoot well this season (22%).
All that aside, great job by Brian Roberts!

Shooting the rock quite well tonight, particularly when he is decisive. When he sort of dribbles around and flounders it hasn't gone well. He can be a real asset off the ball in some of their small ball sets.

I saw a graphic on the screen when he was shooting foul shots at the 8:30 mark. I must have read it wrong. I tried to delete the post after I looked up the stats on espn.com. Apparently your viewing prowess is much quicker than my deletion skills!

So far BRob is doing pretty well. Below are the stats as of today. Note the last line (his player efficiency rating) is good.
