Staten Review from Ittakes5ive...
From the OSU Rivals site....nice review of Staten's performance in the games...but the big schools are obviously planting the seeds of "second thoughts". Comments on UD covet Jordan Sibert and Payne as well.

"I'm pretty much content where I am right now, but I've heard rumors that Coach Gregory might not be there when I get there," said Staten. "If that is the case, then I'll definitely look somewhere else.
have to wonder how many of those rumors results from discussions here

You beat me to the punch with your post. Where is this "rumor" coming from?

Mr. Staten, if those rumors came from this site, google "representative sample". Then realize this ain't it. Basic rule of thumb: those with knowlege of such things are smart enough not to share it. Those without such knowledge share it a LOT.
Also, those are the sort of comments to the media that will get a future boss reasonably angry at you.

Nice props for Matt Kavanaugh in the article:
Dayton commitment Matt Kavanaugh also deserves praise for his physical play against Favors. Aggressive on both ends, Kavanaugh occupied Favors defensively and relentlessly banged with Favors when defending him while Allen Roberts, Zach Brown and Ryan Siggins played inspired basketball on the perimeter for All Ohio Force.
Nice.
Ps- Jawan Staten, please realize those kinds of rumors are often "dropped" by rival stakeholders and are part of the nasty side of recruiting. Simply pick up the phone and call Brian Gregory if there is any lingering doubt in your mind. If Gregory is anything, it is that he is forthright and honest.

Favors, by the way, is the number 1 power forward in the class of 2009 according to rivals. And it sounds like kavanaugh more than held his own against him. That's great news. The quote from staten? Not so great.

I would guess anyone else trying to recruit him. What better way to place doubt in his mind then to say the coach might be leaving.
BTW, I heard that Thad Motta might be leaving. When asked about it, he said he wasn't going anywhere. So, I'd say it is a done deal.

I need to get out and see Kavanaugh play this year. But I like what I am hearing. We will need a guy who can play physical defense on a strong opposing big when Huelsman leaves, IMO.

GoSteelers - nice one
I immediately thought of old Ratface when I read this quote.
While he is not the only (potential) recruiting rat, he certainly fits into the mold.
You know somebody(s) is in his ear, whispering.
I love the idea of Staten as a Flyer. And hopefully one that would pull even more talent to UD.
Is this summer a long one already or what ...

Sooner or later (I hope later) we are going to lose one of these long lead verbal commitments for one or more of a dozen possible reasons. I can't remember a time when we chased this many recruits that the "bigs" have decided they also want.
For every kid with the integrity of Chris Wright there are 3 more like Alex Carmona, Adrion Graves or Jerome Randall.

It's possible that Staten or his people do read this board, but you also have to wonder how many of those "big school" coaches are saying that crap to get him to change his mind.

And considering he's playing with OSU commit Jared Sullinger, I know which "big school" coach has my bet.....

I don't really know what this means...but ok.
Staten isn't going to de-commit off speculation, not matter what some other coach tells him. If Gregory is around for the 09-10 season, which there's no doubt he will be, Staten will be a Flyer.

Staten is going no where. He will be here in 2010. Hopefully along with Payne.
