I was beginning to think it wasn't possible to break through with our weak A10 schedule.
The two teams ahead and behind us in the pool have a combined THIRTY losses. wow.

Yes but that's only 7 1/2 losses per team.....I'm a math wiz!

On Friday they played like a #24 team.
I think that being ranked greatly increases the chance of getting an at large bid if that becomes necessary. Even though rankings are not part of the selection process they wouldn't want to explain how a top 25 team wasn't given an at large bid.

I believe that a couple years ago- 2 or 3 - the committee started including the AVCA poll in their consideration. It's not an official item, but they do use it from time to time. How they use it, I'm not sure. But I could see pulling it up if the committee members are split on a decision, which could be a seeding or the last couple at large bids. I'll try to do some research on it. I remember reading it somewhere.
And I agree they played like a ranked team last Friday. Their best match to date.

If we take a loss, and don't get the auto bid, seems likely the ranking goes away.

That is probably true but I think being ranked prior to a possible. Loss helps. I doubt there will be a second loss until the ncaa tournament unless it is due to injuries or illness

I agree with this. We should win-out unless there is injuries or illness. And the team has to show up mentally every match, because everyone will be trying to knock us off, especially now that we are ranked.

Good for him. He did well here, but we were his stepping stone to a bigger school. That's OK, just didn't like him taking a committed recruit (don't think it was a player)with him. Always admired Gregory for encouraging Henton and Gibson to honor their commitments to Dayton. They didn't do it, but he would not recruit them to Ga Tech either.
Just very happy we got Horsman back.

Sheffield does seem to be having some success in a strong Big 10. I have no hard feelings and I'm glad he and Brittany are having success at the highest level. We benefited from him bringing Amanda Cowdrey over from Albany so it's hard to be mad when he did the same thing later. Obviously he left the team in a shorthanded after leaving, but he also coached us to some of our biggest wins in program history. He better watch out. The Flyers are back. Sheffield always spoke about how great the atmosphere was in at Dayton, I hope he isn't scared to bring his Badgers into Frericks. Wisconsin is one of the few BIG10 teams that hasn't played the Flyers in recent history.
Seeing Dayton back in the top 25 is great! I too thought it would not happen given our super easy conference schedule. Top 25 always helps to boost the perception and I'm happy to see we are back in the national spotlight. I hope Tim can use it to improve that non-con schedule next year. Sheff, you busy?

This year's easy non con schedule was by design due to so many young players

Couple opportunities to move up in the rankings.
# 23 WA St lost to unranked Oregon St 1-3
#22 tOSU lost to unranked Indiana 1-3
# 18 KY lost to RVs MO 0-3
MO will probably move into top 25. They were next up last week.

UD is now #23. ncaa.com has the AVCA 11/7 poll, but AVCA does not yet.
