La Salle doesn't neutralize Iowa at all. A good win is a much better "good" than a bad loss is a "bad". Committees leave teams out all the time for not having any/enough good wins. And teams with a bad loss or two get in all the time, too.

Seems that is true where most teams are concerned but not when it comes to Dayton, last year proved that.

Not really. Last season we didn't have nearly as many "good" wins as we have this season. Had only one Top 50 win.

Actually we all looked at Iowa as being such a key game because beating them was a gateway to a couple of other good games. However, if we lost to Iowa and went on to do what Iowa did - beat Wichita St and ND, we would have traded a wins over RPI 10 & 16 (Iowa and Monmouth) and a loss from 3 (X) for wins against 32 & 36 (WSU & ND). Certainly not as good but not as bad as was originally feared what a loss to Iowa would do.

Wow another coward giving a red rep just for pointing out the other side. Guess posters only want to read and hear about the glory of UD basketball. Keep wearing your red and blue glasses and or keep your head in the sand. Right after we lost to LaSalle posters were acting like the sky was falling and that the LaSalle loss would bite UD in the end come selection Sunday. Now all is forgotten because Iowa is doing well.
The season is far from over. Iowa could go down with losses just as any other team can. UD while winning we are not playing consistently good basketball.
Which team are we, the 18 point first half against the Bonnies, or the 61 point 2nd half against the Bonnies. That is a tale of two halves and it remains to be seen which team we are.
I would agree should Iowa and UD keep on winning the LaSalle loss wont be a huge factor as it happened long before selection Sunday. BUT and its a big BUT if Iowa goes into a slump and Dayton has another LaSalle type game it will have a huge impact with the committee.
The point is I don't trust the selection committee. Last year we were picked by the pundits as a 7 seed yet we barely made it in the NCAA tourney.
There is a lot of basketball left to be played and anything can happen. Too early to count Iowa as our savior and ignore the LaSalle loss. The committee is fickle especially when it comes to non Power 5 schools and in particular Dayton.
Just my opinion which apparently I'm not allowed to post unless I'm lauding the flyers. Wish the LaSalle episode didn't happen but the reality is it did and all the red reps won't change that reality.

Wow go overboard much. I merely pointed out the other side of the issue. Show me where I am complaining about the flyers, really sheesh. It is becoming more apparent that certain posters only want to hear the good side of flyers and life.

Oh geez, Rollo is going to be very offended to hear he is only 1% of this board!!
Avid, I don't trust the selection committee either, I'm totally with you on that comment.
On a different note however....why do people give a crap about the red or green reps? Seriously? I either laugh out loud when a comment hits me funny about them (I did this with your comment, Avid. Some reason you commenting on that made me laugh), or I shake my head at someone getting way too overzealous about them (I remember a thread where some poster, don't remember who, just went berserk about being red pipped). Personally, I do not even know how to give them nor how to check what people have given me. And I don't want to. Another thing: I know in the real world often red is bad, but we are Dayton Flyers, we have the RED Scare, it's a main color, while green is meaningless to us. Shouldn't red reps be GOOD, and some other non Dayton color be bad for us? Just curious.

For what it's worth, ND beat Iowa, so they only got one good win and two "good losses" out of Orlando. I'm not sure at the end of the year Monmouth's RPI will be better than ND's, but either way, I wouldn't trade our 2-1 for Iowa's 1-2. Maybe if we got to play 18 B1G teams instead of 18 A10 teams in conference.

I just assumed we would have beat ND. I would not make that trade either. I just was pointing out the way things played out would have given us a couple more good opportunities when the fear was if we lost to Iowa the other two games would have been junk.

I gotcha. My bad. Too bad stupid Monmouth lost tonight on Manhattan's hideous green court.

Unfortunately for Monmouth, that loss is LaSalle-esque. They won't be able to afford many more of those to stay in the at-large discussion, seeing as that is their 3rd RPI 200+ loss.
Whereas, I think we can afford probably one or two more ?? losses.

Don't say things like that. Don't you know the players and coaches read UD Pride?

It would hurt our seeding for sure, but it wouldn't prevent us getting in the tournament.
