Dayton Travels
Pretty amazing how well UD travels.
- 500 Dayton fans in line at 545 pm yesterday for 930 pm game to grab the best seats. Perhaps 25 Iowa and ND fans.
- Cincy Enquirer says Sunday will be a road game for them. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/spor...itle/76482690/
- Orlando Sentineal says UD had 4K at yesterday's game (exaggerated but I like it) http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sport...127-story.html
What did ESPN say about the UD crowd and attendence?

Other coaches complain that neutral site games have turned into home games. The Monmouth coach mentioned that last night.
As far a I know, every other school had the opportunity to buy tickets to the event. When they say that these games are a home game for UD, it is more an indictment of their fans and their support.
UD fans enjoy good basketball.

ESPN announcers made the comment that there was alot of red in the building, and most in attendance were UD fans.

They (ND, Mon, Iowa) need to do a better job recruiting fans!

Caught some of the tOSU / Memphis game and the arena in Miami was empty. I hit the Fordham game every year and we turn that one into a home game. We love our Flyers.

LI2UD2PA - I have Fordham friends and I try and get to the Fordham game at Rose Hill. It is amazing how much red there is in the stands and at the Rathskeller Bar downstairs and at the end of the game!!!

Somewhere Gotlieb is complaining that it is just not fair that UD gets a home game in the Advocare Classic.

Here is an article from Wichita State's perspective but is heavy on references about UD's support of tournaments like the Advocare.

Isn't it amazing that when a non-P5 conference team uses its own blood, sweat, tears, grit, and passion to carve out a small advantage for themselves the P5 teams immediately jump in to be the first ones to scream "not fair!" Then they figure out how to pay their players double what we can pay. You know, to make it fair.

It's fan support like this that will cause Archie to think twice about taking anything but the "creme de la creme" of the P5 jobs. As long as we pay him as much as our finances will reasonably allow, I think he'll be our coach for awhile yet. Only a handful of schools provide the overall support (fans, facilities, athletic admin, and $alary) that we do.

I saw Gottlieb yesterday working the Iowa St/Illinois game. Iowa St fans packed the tiny juco arena here in NW Florida and after the game (no kidding) Gottlieb banters with Steve Prohm about how great it is that Cyclone fans travel so well. Apparently it's ok to have a supportive fan base if you're a Top 10 ranked, P5 school but "an unfair advantage" if you're a small private school like UD.

I think this is a little unfair to Doug G. Here he is talking about an early season tournament. With UD he was referring to the NCAA 1-and-done tourney. I've seen him on Flyer Feedback and he's been supportive of UD basketball. I would bet that he'd say the UD Fans travel well if he was here in Orlando.

Or maybe he would say Dayton had an advantage in the Advocare because it's too close to home?!

He didn't like UD in Columbus but didn't hear a peep from him about UK in Louisville
I guess 71 miles is unfair but 78 has no advantage

We shouldn't even care what Douggie has to say. He was as much a thief in college as Scott & Robinson were at UD.

To be fair, UK was the better seed and the committee tries to protect those higher seeds with games as close to home as possible. Dayton was not a top 4 seed and Providence had to travel much further, despite being the better seeded team. That's a pretty clear distinction.
