Auburn (Charleston Classic) Game Thread
Let's get this win against an SEC team... A 2-1 tourney not bad for this young team.
Time to see if the Legend of Mr. Pierre continues.
Potential Starting Lineup for Auburn (Definitely tentative, only 3 guys have started each game so far)
G 23 Frankie Sullivan 6’1” 206 SR (Started Every)
G 5 Shaquille Johnson 6’5” 210 FR
F 10 Jordan Price 6’5” 230 FR
F 2 Allen Payne 6’6” 215 JR (Started Every)
C 41 Rob Chubb 6’10” 250 SR (Started every)
Time to get that W!
Game is at 2 PM on ESPN3

Attention UD Sports Information Office
Now is the time to contact the Dan Patrick show and request he have Charles Barkley on tomorrow's show so he and Dad casn have a full discussion of the UD-Auburn basketball game.

Does anybody have a link to some live stats? The College of Charleston stats were a pain in the patoot - kept freezing, plus I just didn't like the setup. And now, they are not even listed at daytonflyers.com.

Why do you have to be with an "affiliated provider"???
We are unable to confirm ESPN3 access. Please verify that you are a customer of an ESPN3 affiliated provider
wtf?

The "affiliated providers" pay fees to ESPN (included in the fee you pay the provider) and that is why access to ESPN is provided.

I would like to see the french guy in there for a spell. JR is not doing it today, neither is Derenbeker. He isn't spotting up and anticipating the inside-out pass.

Baylor v. St. John is on ESPNU and the championship game between Colorado and Murray State is on ESPN2, both later today. The 5th place game did not make it on those channels, however.

not digging Vee's game today. not such great ball movement, and unable to finish a few times this game and last game.
bonus is he's a solid free throw shooter and does the intangibles.
Oliver playing well so far, Dillard too.
let's go Flyers. Steady 2-5 point lead

Interesting that Scott got the call over Gavs.
Derenbecker showed me something for the first time all year. Great pass and then heady defensive play. I also liked Khari's recovery after getting beat on the drive. That kid never says die.

The funny thing is he has been making them at UD Arena, in the exhibition games and against Arky St. But he hasn't even come close in Charleston.

we have much worse shooting pct than Auburn and we are up 10 at the Half.
Auburn with ppoor shot selection IMO.
we look ragged. Good in parts, too many turnovers and bad shots in others. (Benson shooting from deep again, Jalen struggling down low)

Don't give up on it or Derenbecker after so few games. Matt looks decent today.
Scott must be done with his punishment for whatever he did.

Agreed. I actually love the fact that he has a jumper in his arsenal; it gives the defense one other thing to worry about' which makes him more effective. What I don't like is settling for the jumper too often, as he has been doing in this game.

I'm surprised to see Robinson go 0-4 under the basket. He has been money in the bank in the first few games. Hopefully it's just an anomaly and he will right himself in the 2nd half.
Could be, though, that earlier games were against smaller defenders, and he is now starting to learn what it takes to score against bigger D1 trees.
I feel confident that he is gaining experience and will get better each game.

Listening to the pre-game show with Archie, it sounds like Devin needs to learn to give max effort all the time. Archie singled him out on "learning how to play with effort at all times".

They said that after seeing the Flyers that they really like this team. That was followed later by a comment that we will be tough at tournament time and that with our guards we will be in all our games. There was more but my memory fails me.

Not sure Scott was in any trouble. Could be, but would be pretty easy to say he violated a team rule rather than satin Pierre, Robinson and Oliver were playing so well he didn't want to get away from that. And that can include a message of see how you have to perform to get me to break that up. Wouldn't call that trouble.

Hopefully just knee on knee, saying that he's flexing it, hobbling off. Hoping for the best, Rita get him some healing from above.

Not sure about everyone else, but the thought of Dillard going down for an extended period of time makes me feel ill.

KD back on the bench w/ a "knee wrap" hopefully a sign that whatever happened is minor and will be forgotten once they tip off the next game.

Benson played some good D a few times, but otherwise a poor game.

Is there an SEC West in BBall??? They got rid of it a couple of years back and went to a full 12 team setup, mostly for seeding purposes for their conference tournament, since the home & home setup still favored the classes SEC West or East historical guidelines. Don't know what they did now that they're up to 14 teams, perhaps the put divisional standing back in, or perhaps they left them out.

73 - 63 victory. Liked hearing the announcer say that "this feels like we are playing in the UD Arena."
First game that I was able to watch this year and it was thoroughly enjoyable, including the ability to be on UDPride.
Thank you.

Since 1995 our record against SEC teams in the Central Time Zone:
Alabama: 1-0
Auburn: 2-0
LSU: 1-0
Ole Miss: 3-0
TX A&M: 1-0
Vandy: 0-2 (previously an SEC East team)
Overall 8-2. Whatever you call it, we own them.

What I like about this team is that the scoring seems to be coming from different players each game. Sanford, who was our leading scorer, gets 5 and we win. Dillard gets 20, Robinson and Oliver end up with 12 a piece. I just hope Benson doesn't push the issue. Looking forward to next Saturday vs. Manhattan.

Solid win for the Flyers.
I liked hearing the announcer on ESPN talk about how UD is "loaded with weapons at every position." He really seemed impressed by Gav from seeing him practice. Also, first I've heard of the "Gold Jersey" in practices worn by the guy who shows the most intense effort and desire. They said Devin Oliver wore it yesterday. Anybody have any inside info on that?
Glad to see Robinson step it up in the 2nd half.
Looks to me like we need some work on avoiding the full court trap. Auburn could have stolen this one with more trapping and a few breaks. The refs did a good job, but it looked to me like Auburn got called for some iffy fouls. (Although I am glad to see excessive elbows at head level get called tight.)
All in all, I see a real good team this year - we need to say some prayers to the patron saint of good health, whoever that is. Dillard is already under his or her wing after that scary knee injury today. (I was happy to see him return, but was holding my breath - why risk it with a 12 point lead under 4 minutes to go?)
All in all, I'm one happy fan at this point.

I think it was against Miami a few years ago we blew an 11 point lead with less than a minute to go.

Everyone scored today. Devon came up big in the first half. Jalen carried the offense in the 2nd half. Jalen showed a his offensive skills in the 2nd half. Scored on a post up and jump hook. Faced up from the perimeter and scored off the bounce also scored on a 17 foot jump shot (Note to Josh, quit taking the jumper early in the shot clock).
