Was it the red uniform or does Stanford play the same as the Flyers...tenacious defense, sharp passing and smart team play?
Plus neither team caved under pressure!

He's clueless. He had no real reason why he thought Syracuse would drill us. He's terrible.

I noticed the same thing, especially about the Cardinal offense. They seemed to run a lot of motion, with passes to the wings early in the clock, high ball screens, less dependence on the PG to setup & direct, etc. Re the Cardinal defense, it was harder to judge b/c they used a lot of zone, but with their length, I can see why. A lot of 6'10" guys on their roster. Will need to use our speed & mobility to get open shots, and will need to pressure the ball on D. Should be another great matchup and another great game!

He is entitled to an opinion. 99.9% of non Flyer fans will pick the Gators. They are very good and experienced.
I like Barkley. He and Smith add to the telecast. It's not the same boring talking head speak. Picking against UD and saying why he thinks they won't win doesn't make him awful. He'll, I didn't have UD in the Elite Eight in my bracket. And UD you made me our sizable money on Saturdays game I am taking the Gators.

Where I have a problem is when he doesn't offer a reason why. Case in point Syracuse where he predicted a Syracuse "beat down" without offering a shred of reasoning to back that up. At least tonight he said Dayton was a better team than both OSU and Stanford. But he surely didn't think so before either of those games, now did he?

charles and kenny both say that UD was more athletic than Stanford and OSU, only Syracuse is an upset.
He also said that he was really impressed with Dayton the way they shared the ball to get great shots.
I don't think either of them had seen UD play before the tournament because Kenny said after six minutes of the OSU game he ddn't think OSU could win.

Sir Charles is a breath of fresh air...he, along with Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson, are a lot of fun to listen to before, during and after games. He speaks his mind and isn't afraid of being wrong. FWIW, Charles really hasn't followed the College game all that much...much of what he "knows" comes from reading what others have been saying, talking to others supposedly "in the know" and looking at school records. Last night after the game, he had a rather amusing line when being taunted about not picking UD, he said something to the effect that "he11, most people in Dayton didn't pick Dayton to go this far". The man has a sense of humor, which a lot of the talking heads don't. While we are all passionate about UD, we shouldn't be too sensitive about these things. We should, IMHO, lighten up a little bit and enjoy all the chatter.

Charles is known for making boastful predictions that become the battle cry of opponents.
During the 94-95 NBA plays-offs, with the Houston Rockets down 3-1 and headed to Phoenix for the next 2 games, Barley guaranteed a Phoenix NBA title. So Houston and Akeem beat the Suns twice and won game seven in Houston.
The "battle cry" of Rudy Tomjanovich... "Never underestimate the heart of a champion!"
However, Sir Charles is entertaining!

They have other people for that.
The audience for the NCAA tourney is bigger than the audience for regular season games or conference tourneys. Most of that incremental audience does not want to be bored to tears by knowledgable but unentertaining talking heads. Most of whom don't say anything the core hoops fan does not already know.
With the money tied up in rights fees and production costs the pregame, halftime and post game better entertain the people who only watch in March and April.

Barkley says he has more money than Boomer. Who talks about these things on national TV? Inappropriate. Awkward. But it cracks me up. Even when he didn't want to talk about UD/Stanford but immediately jumped ahead wanting to talk about the 'other 3 games'... I thought that was funny, too. You could tell everybody else was treating him like that awkward uncle who didn't know how to act appropriately. "Um. Let's get back on topic, Charles."

For entertainment and ratings. Many non-college baskeball fans tune in for March Madness and if they had to watch Seth Davis (who I like, but I'm a college basketball head like we all are on this board) and Doug Gottlieb sit around and talk X's and O's all day, they'd tune out real quick. Chuck knows his basketball, mainly at the NBA level, but he knows good basketball when he sees it. He buys into the names on the front of the jerseys because this is the only college basketball he watches, during March Madness. Remember, we love our basketball, but a big part of this whole March Madness thing is about entertainment, especially with what CBS is paying for the coverage.

This thread is a good example of why Sir Charles is employed. He is a recognizable figure and hypes both favorites and cinderellas. Gets people talking. Most commentators are boring. I'll take him over Lappas... who made nasty comments about Wichita State only having a win over a 16 seed.

I like Barkley - don't always agree, but he's fun to watch.
One thing I noticed - just before the game, after the moving piece on Devin Oliver and his sister, he said "I still think Florida will win the game, but after seeing that segment I'll be rooting for Dayton."
