The Old Dominion Game Is One of Key Games to Get into the Tournament
The Old Dominion Game is One of the Key Games to Get Into the Tournament ................................................ the NIT Tournament, or the CBI Tournament, or the CIT Tournament.
First three games were likely versus tier 3 opponents where tier 3/4 games do not help Tournament profile, can only hurt. (*See below new NCAA and NIT Changing Judging Teams Based Upon Location of Games). Old Dominion is likely first tier 2 (top 100 game) and one of only 4 tier 1/2 OOC games (Old Dominion, Auburn, Miss. St., and St. Mary's).
Dayton likely will have less than 10 games versus tier 1/2 opponents. Every game is crucial to make the NIT and to a lesser extent the CBI/CIT. Possible top 100 games include Old Dominion, Auburn, Miss. St., St. Mary's, St. Joe's, Rhody, St. Louis VCU, and LaSalle.

Re: NCAA Tournament. At-large bid will not happen period. All about gelling, growing and improving up until the 3-4 days we're in D.C
I couldn't care less about the other tournaments. They are hard to watch. At the end of the season you gotta ask yourself, was it a successful season? The NIT Championship season 7 years ago? Unsuccessful season.
Did we make the NCAA Tournament?
Yes? Successful season
No? Unsuccessful season
I'd rather go 17-12 and win the A-10 Tournament and dance then go 30-1 and miss the Tournament
I realize 30-1 gets us in but its the best way to make my point

Just win the games whenever and wherever they are scheduled.

I appreciate the sentiment, but believe the days of win 20 games and you are in the NCAA/NIT are long gone. Neil spends a ton of time to try to maximize the number of tier 1 and tier 2 games (tier A and B in kenpom). Basically the Committees only focus on these games as long as teams do not have many bad losses.

While fickle fans may not care, the freshman on this team could benefit from post season play, even if not the NCAA tournament.

Three’s, three’s and more three’s. Don’t bother working the ball inside, just chuck up a three. A couple passes horizontally amongst the guards and then force a three. Miss, miss and miss the three. No wonder, why we lost the game. I got sick of watching three point shots. Anthony Grant should have told them that the next person to take a three is out of the game! If all your going to do is chuck up a three then it did not matter who was in the game. We should have just played the walk-ons! They could chuck up a three and miss as well as this bunch. Terrible offense was demonstrated in this game. This Old Dominion game was played on offense just like the Hofstra game.

Rue: I understand your comments. It's just that I am from the old Al Davis school, "just win baby" and everything else should take care of itself. Don't sweat what you can't control although you may have to change your scheduling in the future to accommodate the considerations you outlined. You are right, the old 20 wins and you are in is out because 20 wins means probably 10 losses, which have to be explained or rationalized away.

This weekend was terrible. Let’s just get back to Dayton, beat Akron on Saturday, and go from there. Whether it happened against old dominion yesterday, or later on in the season, the reality is, The only way we get into the tournament is if we win three games March 9 through the 11th in Washington DC. Let’s get into the top 8 of the Atlantic 10, and take our chances.

If Dayton can beat Akron, we'd be positioned pretty well for a solid seed in the MAC conference tourney with wins against Ball State and Ohio U already. Don't suppose the MAC would let us in this year?
