But you have to remember that Keith Dambrodt (former Akron coach) is their coach now. He is going to actually try to improve the Dukes and the only way to do that is to offer and hopefully get better players than they usually have.

Yeah, I considered that, but I just don't think they have the resources to compete. Dambrodt and LeBron will hopefully make them competitive and help the league, but I'm at the point where I'll believe it when I see it.

I agree about waiting to actually see it happen, but I at least think Dambrodt is going to give them a better chance to improve than they've had in a long time.

Names mentioned
Gavin Bizeau, a 6-foot-11 center from Plainfield, Ind 2 Star
Dwayne Cohill, a 6-4 guard from Holy Name High School in Cleveland 4 Star
Justin Ahrens, a 6-5 forward from Versailles
Mike Devoe, a 6-3 guard from Oak Ridge High School in Orlando 4 Star
Anthony Nelson, a 6-4 guard from South Kent Preparatory School in Connecticut
Certainly an uptick in level it would appear.

It seems after the first NCAA Archie was more interested in targeting guys he knew who he cold get. However, the junior class didn't turn out very good. Well see how the freshman class is this year but certainly Archie's approach doesn't work every year.

Chris Holtmann was recruiting Dwayne Cohill to Butler, so I wonder how Holtmann's move to tOsu will impact that.

A lot to like with Bizeau:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1iqvHdktvw
Seems like a very fluid athlete for his size with lots of room to gain weight. Has the foundation of a very nice shot for a player his size. Has good passing instincts and an ability to handle the ball. Would love to see him become a Flyer.
Really excited about General Anthony Grant's early recruiting efforts.

Agreed that the level of activity does not match the number of open spots for 2018. Problem is we need every available body for this season so AG could not clean house with returning players that didn't fit his system this past off season. I have not idea who goes/stays but my guess is UD will have 3 spots to fill in 2018. Would not be surprised if 2 juniors transfer out.

We at Dayton have been VERY LUCKY when it comes to transfers. As of this morning Corey Evans tweeted that there have been 702 transfers so far for the 351 schools. Average of 2 per school, and this has been the trend for several years now. Law of averages tells us, we will have some transfers in the coming years.

I think college players are starting to mimic what is going on in the NBA. Players moving around and using the system. I understand it from the player's standpoint but as I fan, it is turning me off. Next year's regular NBA season will be a joke. The only question is whether the Cavs can add some fire power to compete with the Warriors in the finals. I hate the thought of losing interest in college Bball like I have the NBA.

ESPN 100 Dane Goodwin on his decommitment from Ohio State: "I thought it would be better for me to go through the recruiting process and look at other options, while getting to know the coaches at Ohio State because I had not known them from before."

Has "Dane Goodwin" and "Dayton" actually been together in any articles besides mentioning his father played here? He is a pipe dream... probably worse, because at least dreams occasionally come true. This is not happening.

Archie was right in the mix Darryl Morsell a four star guard out of Baltimore last year. It was Maryland, Notre Dame & Dayton

Agree OSU, big difference between fishing and catching. However if you want the big fish, you have to go where the big fish are, and AG is doing that. How many land in the boat is the big question.

There is probably some truth in that but the coaches seems to be given a pretty short leash as well. 8 coaches in the A10 have been at there schools for less than 4 years. Only Mooney, McKillop, Gianni and Martelli have tenures over 10 years.
The situation is similar in the SEC where 9 coaches have been at their schools for less than 5 years. Only Andy Kennedy has been in the conference for more than 10 years.
The point being the coaches are changing which also causes the players to transfer.

I agree with you there on college coaches changing affecting the number of transfers but I also think that is an offshoot of the pros too. The NBA off season is turning into a big drama filled soap opera. I think that is permeating all levels of basketball.
I have officially become an old man. Now get off my lawn.

Limited footage, but appears to have a good shot, medium speed, okay hops and a poor left hand dribble. Not sure this is a next level recruit we are hoping for.

Dayton makes top ten for Dwayne Cohill, the number one ranked PG prospect in Ohio for 2018.
http://elevatehoops.com/portfolio/dw...s-down-top-10/
He's considering: Vanderbilt, Texas, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Dayton, Clemson, Ohio State, Penn State, West Virginia, and UNLV.
Comments on each included in the article. About Dayton he says...
Dayton: “My relationship with the staff is second to none and we talk at least four times a week. Coach (Anthony) Grant has NBA experience and that’s something that’s intriguing.”

NBA bloodlines: uncle is Derek Fisher, and his dad Duane played in the NBA as well in the 80s. Duane Sr. was probably the superior talent but was kicked out of the league for substance abuse.

Definitely blowing up...
Washington's got offers right now from Tulsa, Rhode Island, VCU, Utah, Duquesne, St. Joseph, Miami OH, Toledo, Charlotte, and Middle Tennessee State (where his pops is a legend). And there are a lot of big name programs sniffing around too: Arkansas, Mizzou, Texas, Iowa, Cal, Notre Dame, Michigan and Michigan State among others.
Did a bit of reading on this guy, and it really seems like he's probably just waiting on that Michigan State or maybe Michigan offer. It's not one of those situations where the kid has been ignored by the in-state giants. He has been to both schools on multiple occasions - to their midnight madness events, as an on-the-field guest at football games, etc. He's scrimmaged with the guys at Michigan State and had quality one-on-one time with "Coach Izz" as he calls him.

So I would stop short of being "very excited" about the prospects of Duane Washington being a flyer because I'd be very surprised if he came here. Of the Dwayne/Duane's, I think I like our odds at Dwayne Cohill better.
But to me, there is definitely something here worth being excited about. And that is the fact that Anthony Grant is going after some absolute studs here. Washington is the number one ranked PG coming out of Michigan in the 2018 class. And Cohill is the number one ranked PG coming out of Ohio in the 2018 class. These are guys Archie probably would have written off as guys we would have had no chance at getting. And that could be true, but with limited scholarships to give in 2018 this is really what you want to see. You want to see Grant going after the cream of the crop in my opinion.

I don't think either UM or MSU will offer the kid... Both already have top PGs committed for 2018

Rhoden reclassified to '18 and is attending prep school. No Big5 offers yet, mostly A10. Again good we are on him early. Good size if he can play the shooting guard.

Nelson is a lefty with great size for a point guard. He has offers from Seton Hall, St John's, UC and many A10 schools. Love this kid. Reminds me of Chris Johnson.

Nelson is dynamic going to the hole. Appears comfortable with both hands and a great finisher. Can he shoot? Perhaps, but can't tell from video.

One of many things that are impressive about our recent recruits is that they appear ready to play as Freshmen. Nelson has some serious hang time and athleticism. His court vision is several clicks ahead of his years.
Our Coach is aiming high.

OSUFlyer: if i am understanding the internet page, it is saying that Utley scored 56 points in a game in 2014? Am i reading that correctly? If he is really 6'1" then this guy could be exciting?

Yeah, I saw a video for that. Don't see too much activity with his recruitment yet

Reading through that - I would be shocked if he came here. He talks about all the big schools recruiting him - mentions the awesome conferences he is getting offers from (he lists them...does not list A10), then says that Dayton is "trying" to build a relationship with him.
None of that sounds good.

Big fish in a small pond or wait for playing time like his brother @ MSU. Brother averaged 8 minutes a game as a sophomore...maybe the younger one will want to play vs sit. We can always hope!

If he has learned anything at all from his brother, Kyle, the Big 10 is full of highly athletic players, most of whom cannot put the ball in the basket. He will follow precisely in his brother's footsteps of riding the pine for four years at Michigan.

We are in Justin Ahrens' Top 6 along with X, OSU, UM, Purdue & Vandy
One quick note... PG Duane Washington out of Grand Rapids just got offered by UM, potentially very bad news for UD's chances

He will be playing with #1 in the 2018 class, Marvin Bagley. Forget about him coming to UD, no way it happens.

Might not play with Bagley. Bagley is trying to reclassify to 2017. Either way UD is not in his future.

No idea if this this credible but per an OSU site
The 6-3 Cohill released his top 10 schools via Twitter last month. He listed Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Dayton, Clemson, UNLV, West Virginia, Texas, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and Penn State. A source close to the situation helped us sort through some of the static.
“There was a lot of talk that Texas would be a team to beat for Cohill,” our hoops guy said. “But I don’t get the sense that is on the front burner as much now. I think interest has also cooled between Cohill and Vanderbilt.
“The two schools that I keep hearing in connection with Cohill are Ohio State and Dayton.”
According to a different source, Cohill was leaning towards Dayton as recently as three weeks ago.

From an OSU board
Ahrens has targeted Aug. 22 for an unofficial visit to Xavier. He said he is working on visit dates to Purdue, Vanderbilt and Dayton.
In terms of what he is looking for, Ahrens said, “Obviously, I want it to feel like home. A lot of guys are transferring nowadays. I have to fit in with the system. Hopefully the opportunity is there for me to play soon. Plus, you have the relationship with the coaches and the players.”
Ahrens said “it would be nice” to have a decision ready for the November signing period, so he can concentrate on his senior year at Versailles.

Only a true Flyer fan would use the label of brother to a former Flyer women's bball player as opposed to the son of a former NBA player and brother to a current NBA player.
