Screw X ! I looked over at Musketeer Madness and they are saying crap like its UD's Super Bowl and we got our wish. What a bunch of arrogant *****s. I hope UD fans let their fans have it in Orlando. By the way I hope Scoochie, Kyle and Kendell kick their a$$es on the basketball court.

They say that about every team they play. You have to take into consideration they are not only the most arrogant fan base in existence, but also the absolute dumbest. It used to bother me when I heard their crap, now I just laugh.

Didn't they see the stat about UD having such a good record against the top conferences in the country over the last 9 years? After this game, when we play a team from a top conference again, we'll be ready for them.

Your first problem was looking at mousie madness, they've always been that way. I'm sure there will be a bunch of stupid Pablo watermelon posts these next few days. That place represents all the bad things of message boards. Win or lose, this game will be largely forgotten when UD is playing the second weekend of March Madness and X is punching water coolers and stealing puppies.

Gonna be a very tough game. Pollard is going to have to contain Reynolds without fouling himself to the bench. Bluiett is a matchup nightmare at 6'6" and a very complete player, probably too big for KD. They have a lot of weapons. We may have an advantage in the post if Big Steve can shake off last nights disaster and protect he rim and get some stickbacks.

Our fans are super fired up for this... Player wise, I'm not sure they care any more about this than they did about Monmouth and Iowa. Which is probably how it should be.

The Super Bowl narrative is just a convenient pre-excuse for losing.

It's not that the players don't care--hell, they don't know a thing about the X/UD rivalry and it's probably just as well. Dayton has set it's own course without the Muskies and are better for it. I can only name a couple of guys on the X roster. It's hard to hate someone you don't really know.

I took a minute to go out to Holy Land of Hoops site. A couple tools out there as well. For the love of God, I hope no UD fan takes their bait and responds on that site. The best thing to do is ignore the crap on that site. It will agitate the X fans out there if no one from UD even acknowledges their posts and they'll post more garbage. The other BE fans will see the X fans for what they truly are...

Why are we even using the letter __, much less capitalizing it?

Between now and the end of the smack down we put on them, they are now known as the letter between W & Y.

This will really confuse those few from the south who are able to read the board to their 1st cousin wives.

I disagree about Bluiett. He doesn't move off the ball very well and his greatest threat is as a shooter. He's not getting 20 off the bounce and he's a marginal defender at best. I think that match-up favors Dayton whether it's Cooke or KD.

It's already being....

wow. Bit of a lack of class Jax. Those UD fans you see at the tournament are not delusional dead enders caught in a hellish life of delusion leaving in a dead city. They are 35 miles from you, they are Reds and Bengal fans who live in a medium size Midwestern town like half of America. UD is a lovely campus with a large out of state student body. People from all over the country attend UD and become lifelong rooters of the program. Your hatred filled rant shows your lack of class.

Hopefully I'm not the only BE fan who cringed reading your post.

Reynolds is a hot head. Look for him to get a T in this game. Our players just need to stay composed and not get caught up in his schtick. I just want the game decided on the floor and not with the whistles. This is going to be a very physical battle. X is like a bully - they will try to punch you in the mouth but if you take it and punch back they will wither.

I read Musketeer Madness, The Holy Land of Hoops and MU Scoop to relish in arrogant Jesuit smart a$$ humor. I will say Marquette fans are toning it down a little since their team has sucked for the last three years.

They have a great basketball program based in a city much like Dayton at a school much like UD. We both have a few fans that go over the top. Let's not generalize about their fans based upon a few crazies and I hope others do not generalize about our fans based upon a few crazies.

Btw, for the Xavier fans reading this, as a city Cincy is not that different from Dayton -- I say this as a San Francisco Bay Area resident whose parents were born and raised in Cincinnati.

Zip em' up

CJ is spot on about Reynolds. One aggressive tie-up and he'll lose his cool. Macura is another good candidate. I honestly think it's a good idea to try to bait them into technicals. Last year they got like 20 in the season. Probably a national record and certainly embarrassing. They have a coach with no class, so it's easy to see why they have very little respect for the game and their opponents.

We just can't fight back. Let them throw the punches.

It really would be nice to blast this team.

Besides the headlines reporting X games, I no longer search out & read the stories about their games. It just doesn't usually matter. BUT, the long rivalry existed for me (since '70) and with the proximity of the schools, this is great college basketball.

I will be at the game, cheering loudly, wearing my 2003 vintage BEAT XAVIER tshirt (brought to Orlando "just in case").

Cook can handle Bluiett. What it may come down to is substitution patterns. Can't play our best defenders 40 minutes, but then again, neither can x. We must stay out of foul trouble, and they have that issue as well. This game is going to be really interesting and probably go to the wire.

We seem to have the moving pick thingy figured out, now we need to work on the dreaded arm bar fouls. It's really not that complicated Kendall. Just keep your elbows glued to your side. Soon as you extend the arm, it's a foul.

I have a feeling that they'll know about the rivalry before tomorrow's game.

This is all I ask of Archie. You are classy and always show your appreciation to the fans for traveling and supporting the Flyers, especially in the holiday and NCAA tournaments. You personally thanked me in Maui as you got off the bus. But if you want to give the fans a very special thank you that they'll never forget, do whatever you can, whatever it takes, to bring home a tournament victory over X. If letting the players know about the rivalry in no uncertain ways is the way to get it done, then do it. If it's the opposite and you have to try and keep it toned down, then do it.

There's no doubt in my mind that AM knows what this means to us. And I have a feeling it means as much to him because he's so very appreciative of the fans.

honestly it is a game with a little more meaning than most but in the end its importance is as a chance to build a better resume. This tourney has been exactly what the schedule needed. I don't believe any current Flyer has played in a game against X.

The A-10 is having by far the best non con I can remember. The bottom of the league seems much improved and is the lift that was needed.

There are 2 reasons why this game really has lost most of its meaning
1) it isn't played twice a year any more
2) it is no longer the big game on the schedule. when you are not playing in the NCAA then the rivalry game is likely the big game on the schedule. The Flyers have a lot bigger fish to fry than just winning a game against X. With 5 NCAA wins in the last two years and this years team looking to bump that total tomorrows game will be fun for the fans but each team has much greater goals to pursue.

Yeah, if we lose tomorrow is not because Archie doesn't care enough or didn't motivate the team enough. X is a good team and we will have to play well to beat them. The Monmouth effort won't cut it.

Maybe, but even if it's not the rivalry that intensifies this game, winning this tournament with the great field of 8 it started with is at least the 3rd biggest fish to fry this season, A10 regular season and tournament being the obvious other two.

While Chris R has previously pointed out Dayton has been vulnerable to the three-point shot and offensive rebounds, they are to date one of the stingiest teams in the country on 2FGA limiting their opponents to 42%.

X has been most effective when they are attacking the rim. Even though they aren't finishing very well, they are generating a lot of offensive rebounding opportunities. Last year's squad fell in love with shooting triples. Not as much this year.

I think if X maintains a similar game plan they'll get throttled on the interior by the Flyer D.

Two teams that want to attack the rim and have just enough firepower on the perimeter to keep teams honest. If they send yesterday's Dayton/Monmouth officiating crew I like Dayton's walk-ons over the Xavier walk-ons. Would be nice to have a Sodom & Gomorrah game where Dayton just rains down hellfire from behind the arc.

We are playing with house money against x. No way this game would be a bad loss. With two neutral wins under our belt against good teams, we have already set ourselves up for RPI help and positive press. We could get ranked with a win, but if the past is any indication, being ranked early in the year is not a good thing for the Flyers. Tomorrow is a freebee and good benchmark for our progress.

Also, having looked over the teams x has beaten, IMO we are the best team they will have faced to date this season.

This game has limited importance to me. The most intriguing thing about is the fact that X decided to attempt to "big time" themselves out of the series. So now, they have put themselves in a position where they could look really foolish. That makes it juicy. It could also be a nice resume builder for the NCAA tournament, which has become our dwelling place since X's little propaganda campaign started.

I think the whole X series ending and "being left out of the NBE" episode has been a tremendous thing for our program. I think that being at the top of the A10 has been severely undervalued by those who have wailed over both.

I heard that Dickie V might be doing the color for the game tomorrow. Is that true? He has already commented on how he thinks UD should be in the NBE. That will drive the more militant X fans batty. I would enjoy it if he does the announcing and talks about how X is running from the series of games just because it will pi$$ them off to be chastised on a national broadcast.

It's just another team on the schedule. It makes us look foolish/bitter to give them extra heat. Just win and move on.

You guys kill me. you have made the 2nd weekend of the NCAA tournament exactly ONCE! in the last 31 YEARS! And somehow think that merits all the accolades that have been repeatedly posted above. Both programs have benefitted from the conference reallignment.

All this game is is a good NOVEMBER benchmark game. Both teams will be very different in March as they mature and each player finds their niche.
Relax and enjoy the game.

I saw once KP had his arm out, the offensive player kinda hooked it as he passed, pulling KPs arm in. As he tried to pull it back out he was called for the arm bar.

Xavier seems to spread the scoring around. Several good shooters and dribble drivers, Jalen Reynolds and James Farr are good down low players. IMO, Reynolds is the better down low player of the two.

Their weakness IMO, is too much individual one on one play on offense at times, not enough team ball, not enough passing, not enough ball movement, not enough off-the-ball movement by the Xavier offensive players. Still a good offensive team though.

Good defensive team.

They like to run in transition.

They play hard and hustle.

Good coaching by Mack.

Jalen Reynolds down low is a problem, he scores and rebounds, he is a bit of a thug IMO though. He has gotten several technical fouls through the years.

Trevion(spelling?) Blueitt(spelling?)is a good all around player, IMO, he is the team MVP, he can shoot and drive.

J.P. Macura is a heady player, really, really pesky and heady, has been known to get a technical foul every now and then, he can shoot and drive. Plays hard. Not really a thug, just heady and pesky.

Myles Davis, another good shooter and driver.

Remy Abell, a transfer from the Indiana Hoosiers, another good shooter and driver.

Edmond Sumner, averaging 11 ppg, seems like more of driver.

James Farr, another big man, averaging 10 ppg, leading rebounder on the team.

Other reserves on the bench that don't play as much or score as much.

So, try to keep Reynolds out away from the low post, where his effectiveness can be nullified. Keep him off the boards to limit his offensive rebounds.

Try to contain Bluett, very difficult player to nullify completely.

Farr is not as aggressive or dominant as Reynolds, seems like he rarely takes over a game. Keep him off the boards to limit his offensive rebounds. Keep him out away from the low post to nullify him more.

Really keep track of their shooters on the perimeter.

Will need good help defense to deal with the dribble driving.

Get back on transition defense, no loafing with the transition defense, hustle back down the court and play good transition defense.

They like to drive to the basket, they are good at drawing fouls and getting to the line.

Yes, seriously. I have been a die hard fan since 1985 and have been to several UD/X games, including the 99-00 season game at Xavier when we lost in OT. I used to hate Xavier because I was jealous of their success. I have grown up and we have since matched (possibly surpassed their successes recently). Act like you have been there and focus on your own team. Go UD. Get to 6-0 and build that resume.

There are way too many ESPN story lines for this to be a just another game

1) The connection Archie's brother has to Xavier past success
2) Chris Mack 's controversial ways in games vs UD.
3) The distance separating the schools.
4) NBE expansion and UD's potential switch.
5) The fact Mack's wife played b-ball at UD.

Most important is our recent success. AM knows the significance of this game to the fans. This is Dayton vs XU. What I love most is that this is home game for UD. There is no way Mack is happy playing a championship game on what should be a neutral court. This game carries significance to AM and the team. I can assure you he's been on the phone prepping with Sean. Although the luster of the rivalry is tarnished. This is more than just another game. Expect the intensity of the game to be like a NCAA tournament game. AM's True Team will be ready to rumble!

IMO, at times, Reynolds is a thug. Try and get in his head and get him to lose his cool and get a technical and get him out of the game.

I believe that he led the Big East in technical fouls last year, he has had some issues in the past...did not qualify coming out of high school, so he had to sit out a year...was suspended by Xavier for failing to take care of his responsibilities...had a complaint filed against him by a student.

Sounds like a perfect candidate for Flyer Nation South to treat as their dartboard tomorrow afternoon. If I had been able to make the trip, you can bet your @$$ I'd have had some creative, PG-13 comments for him.

Best team UD has played this year by far -- need another top 50 win for NCAA resume.

Good point. Xavier always seems to have players who are easily flustered or lose their cool fairly easily. That might be amplified in a small, loud venue.

Especially when that small, loud venue is 2/3 filled with people who hate their guts, and aren't afraid to say so!

A couple of games ago he went for a ball going out of bounds. The ref blew the whistle and he thought the other guy was given a foul, so he put both of his chicken arms up to flex for the camera. Big studliness. Then he realized the ref call it on him. His deflation was pretty funny to watch.

UD fans get offended someone referred to this game as their "SuperBowl" and then many spend the next 50 posts proving them right

I have no use for their coach or their players, but if the above is true, there is no place for that kind of personal attack. Really pretty disgusting actually.

How soon people forget about the watermelon deal with Keith, things said to his Dad .Winning on our floor ,fans stomping on our logo and spitting on the floor. And i don't care what anybody thinks Xavier was behind a lot of us not getting in the Big East. The stuff coming off there message boards was bad.But this being said we both moved on,do i want to beat them yes.But win or lose does not define our season or there,s not like it use to.

Yeah, it happened (I heard some of it); it was disgusting and shameful. But they don't tell you that it was a few loud mouth jerk offs that did it, they were immediately kicked out, and that 99.99% of the fan base finds it shameful.

Their narrative also doesn't include the fact that when Christi was inducted into UD's Hall of Fame a couple of years later:

- she was universally cheered, and maybe just a little louder as recompense for that disgusting prior episode

- she was introduced as Christi Hester Mack

- Mack was standing in the Flight Deck luxury boxes watching her ceremony, visible to all, noticed by many, and completely ignored - after all, it was her night, not his

I was looking at Xavier's stats...Davis 31%, Macura 32%, and Abell 25% had lower percentages from 3 than I thought, although Abell seems to be having a down year so far from 3 vs. his other years.

Bluett 47% is strong from 3, last year he was at 33%.

So, might be able to sag off Davis and Macura a little bit, but not much, and pack it in a little more.

Last year, Macura was at 34%, Davis was at 33% and 38% the previous 2 years, and Abell was 40%, 49%, and 41% the previous 3 years.

Sumner shoots a good % from 3 at 39%, but he only makes less than 1 per game on average.

At the game today, UD fans need to show respect to Christie Hester Mack and her daughters. They are off limits to any rude behavior. Now go crush Xavier and their arrogant fans.

SDF, every fan base has a couple dozen idiots who make a negative impression by their actions or words! They, just like the 2-3 students responsible for the comments they made to Mack's wife at the arena that day!

The other 13,000+ enjoyed the game and were doing what we could to cheer our team on without that kind of crap getting in the way of our efforts!

Again, every fanbase has a couple idiots----------trust me I've met more than my share at the sintas over the years-------young and old!

I have been to 15 games at "sin"tas center watching our flyers play y and I can only tell you what I've seen and it ain't pretty from there student section towards OP, BG and more recently AM and our players over the years!

The folks responsible for those behaviors were held accountable by UD and all has been forgotten by Christy etc. I'm told! Christy and Mack have both been back to UD for the HOF celebration for Christy......

Yes, no personal attacks on Mack's wife & kids, please!

Now, in regard to his players on the other hand.... Just keep it clean-ish.

I will contend to the day I die that X, Marquette and maybe others did not want UD as part of the nbe because they knew UD had a fan base that would explode with any sustained success. It would hurt their recruiting for men's Bball as well as the general student population.

Our "home court advantage" in Orlando kinda proves that our fan base is pretty darn good already. The difference between the NBE and the A10 is minimal and inconsequential. Our recent success proves that no matter our conference affiliation we can be successful and compete at the highest level. This is a new golden age of UD BB. Enjoy it. Now let's nail the weasels down south to the wall, collect our trophy, and move on.

It was Xavier, Marquette and Georgetown who were the ones against our entry. Providence and St. Johns wanted us. St. Johns stated about our potential ability to draw fans at the Big East Tournament. Problems we faced were Jesuit politics, Xavier's selfish agenda, Marquette's administrative connections with Creighton, Marquette still mad at us for suing them, the three Jesuit schools having strong personalities, while our supporters were more laid back. I loved how Georgetown was pushing for Richmond if the league went bigger than 10. None of this is a good formula for building the league to its best potential. I remember Cris Reiman stating that if Xavier and Butler had told them to pound salt, the A-10 had the potential to be a stronger league than the Big East.

Still true to this day! Butler and the SDS are the class of the New Big Least! Nova and Georgetown are consistently over rated.

I remember the game with the Christi Hester debacle. While I in no way defend the crap said to her, she was not an innocent lady who was just verbally assaulted for no reason. She dished it as well as she took it until it was decided they went over the line. Again, it should have never started.
