Perfect. There is a good chance we can attract some USF transfers when they see what real basketball facilities are like.

See, if you look at it like BE fans do, it means that all 10 will get an NCAA bid because they are so evenly balanced.

Bulls played in Philadelphia at Temple on Saturday and are at UC on Tuesday. Good fit to spend a couple of days in this area between games rather than head home to Florida and back. Glad to have them.
Wins and losses aside, BG was always a class act both on the floor and off. He, along with his wife Yvette, represented the university well in every respect (i.e Secret Smiles). Postorino, who coached under BG after he left UD, is on the UD athletic advancement staff - so good friends all.

One that may have slipped by yesterday was an eye-opening 17 point loss at home by Rhody to George Mason leaving them at 9-8. Dowtin, Russell, and Thompson combine for 11/36 shooting---0/17 from the arc. I predicted their record, but am shocked at the shooting.

I think the more we win, the more bulleye's we will attract from the A10 opponents. We are starting to collect kudos from every direction. Need to wear our big boy pants every night out.

Bucky at the USF practice today. Pretty cool that they are practicing on Bockhorn court and get to meet the Legend himself.

No doubt Bucky regaled them with stories about the Big O and probably had everyone's complete attention. That is a cool picture and shows the deep friendship BG and Bucky have.
It was time for BG to move on but if he ever tires of being a HC (or he has no more offers), I'd love for UD to welcome him back in some type of non coaching role.

As much as I loath Syracuse I do love seeing Duke and Coach Whiney (K) sulk walking through the handshake line after a loss.

Oh, so close!
Flyer OOC foes - in a battle of heavyweights, Coppin State comes up two points short:
South Carolina State (4-15) 70 @ Coppin State (2-17) 68

St. Joes took down Davidson 61-60 in a game that neither team seemed to want to win.
...and then there were two. Huge game for the flyers tomorrow.

A couple of teams that are turning my head at this point in the season are George Mason and Duquesne. GM because of the way they’ve come on strong after a horrendous November. Duquesne because, well, they’re 12-5 after the win at Richmond tonight. Even if they only go .500 in-con from now until Brooklyn, that’ll put ‘em at 19-12. It’s been awhile since the Dukes were that good, and we’ll need to avoid looking at them the way the Bengals looked at the Browns heading into the 2018 season, lest we realize a similar fate.

Dambrot will have the Dukes contending, if not this year, next. I've said it before, we need to be a little concerned Duquesne could get an invite to the BE ahead of us. With Dambrot at the helm, they could turn the much needed corner to make that a reality.

I think Duquesne will need to sustain this improvement for awhile before the BE would come calling. But they do have a double-edged advantage over us in terms of geography, specifically (a) the greater Pittsburgh area has 3 times the population base that greater Dayton has (that many more eyes glued to sports on the tube), and (b) there may be people in the BE hierarchy who would love to stick it to Pitt, to “pay them back” for when Pitt bolted to join the ACC. Again, though, I don’t think 1 or 2 good seasons will do it. 4 or 5, maybe. But not 1 or 2.

There should be no concern. People in pittsburgh are unaware that Duquesne even has a basketball team. They would have to become a regular top 25 team for that to change.

Is this a joke about Duquesne and the NBE? They have not been to the NCAA since the mid-70's... I am a DU season ticket holder (so I can see the A-10 teams) and they are not good. Every team above 500 they have played they have lost to. Their wins in the A-10 are Fordham (+5), St. Joe (+1), and Richmond (+5). Their attendance ranges from 750-1000 and maybe 25 students attend. The only games the students come out for are the nationally televised games, 2-3 per year, and then it's only 100 students. Their facilities are a joke and they are not even a consideration in Pittsburgh sports; last page of the sports section. 50-75% of their athletes transfer yearly and every year is like starting over. They have a better chance of being in the NEC than the NBE!

Anytime Hurley is tossed from a game I would say the officials made the right call. He ranks right up there with a few X coaches in my book.
Does seem like a quick whistle bad call by the officials in this case though to give them both the second T

When a coach gets a 'T' he is immediately restricted to be seated on the bench...by refusing to sit and insisting on trying to push thru the official to shake hands, get a glass of water or tie his shoe, he's asking for another 'T'...and with his reputation, no ref in his right mind is going to allow Hurley to 'show him up' by ignoring expectations and rules.
Hurley is an a-hole...he got exactly what he deserved....and somewhere out there is a HS coach and/or AAU coach and/or a youth coach who thinks he's cool and will undoubtedly repeat the behavior.

Since when does a head coach in an NCAA game have to sit when assessed a technical?

HS = sit.... college = coaching box? There is a requirement, I'm just not sure.

Not suppose to be out of the coaches box anyways. Weak argument.
Stick to HS where you do a great job!

IU now 3-4 in the B1G, and in 8th place. Not what IU hired Archie to do.

I think Archie will be fine. That said it's a reminder that making multiple millions of dollars doing what you love to do at a small private school that is basketball centric, has a rabid fan base, great facilities, and a patient and very very supportive administration is a special situation (and one I think capable of playing for the national title under the right conditions).
Just sayin....

Virginia, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Tulsa lost by a total of 9 points.
But the Flyers squeaked out a 2OT win, so all is right in the world.

Just had to share. Watching the end of the GW/ Duquesne game, and Carry for Duquesne pulled the “jump into the defender while attempting a 3-pointer” trick that Boise State tried against us in the 2015 NCAAT. In our game, the stripes got the call right. In this game, they blew it, and gave Carry the freebies. Now in OT.

Are you including the players, coaches, trainers, managers, official scorers, referees, ticket takers, etc.? If so, then I’ll take the “over” at 550. If not, then I’ll bet the “under”.

Thanks for the updates, Glen.
That loss by Butler dropped them into sole possession of 8th place in the NBE at 3-5. The surprising thing is, they’re only a half-game out of...3rd place, which is where Creighton now finds itself in a 5-way tie, at 3-4, after last night’s win. Yep. 8 of the 10 teams in the NBE are currently under .500 in-con, with ‘Nova & Marquette with “Secretariat-esque” leads over the rest of the field. Granted, they’re not even at the halfway point of the conference season, but that’s still mind-boggling that 80% of the teams are below .500.

2 outcomes of note this afternoon (besides our Flyers' stomping of Fordham)
Marquette beat _avier in Cincinnati, 87-82. This drops the Mouseketeers into a 7th-place tie with Butler, 1/2 game out of a 4-way tie for 3rd place. This year, the NBE reminds me of B1G football back in the early '70s, when it was the "Big 2 and Little 8".
Davidson beat SLU in St. Louis, 54-53. Goodwin for SLU fouled Davidson's Gudmundsson to send him to the line, down 1, with 0:05 to go. Of course, he drained them both, putting Davidson up 1. Then, Bess puts-up a prayer for SLU with 0:02 to go, and misses, but Goodwin attempts a tip, and also misses, but was fouled on the attempt with 0:004 on the clock. He goes to the line. 2/2 gets SLU the win. 1/2 sends the game to OT. But Goodwin bricks them both, and Davidson wins it on the road. Gawd, if SLU was my #1 team instead of UD, I'd be pounding some Schlafly right now!

Poor Travis Ford or I should say Travis Fraud... I don't feel bad for Goodwin, I feel bad for the Girl he hurt last year... Congrats to Davidson

Was he the same player that made the boneheaded foul on Davidson’s high scorer (20 feet from the basket and with his team up one with 5 seconds left)? Davidson sank both ends of the 1-1 and went up 1

Ford has to have the record for players dismissed in the A10. Real chemistry and character issues in STL

Yep, bad sequence for him
If the story about on the St. Louis board is true about the incident, he's a pretty weird dude

A10 is not very good this year but will be wild to watch standings. I think very little that separates top 7. Then a sizeable drop when you get to bottom seven but not much variance between 8th and 14th

Lunardi's bracketology update for yesterday has Butler in the first four out even at 2 games under .500
Might be a record low number of bids outside the power conferences this year

Interesting you mention Coach Ford. I'm pretty close to the SLU program and I've not heard anything from their fan base about 1) his capabilities in the x's and o's down the stretch of games and 2) the fact that Ford actually only owns one (1) NCAA tournament victory.
Yet on the UD message board, we have fans who act like CAG is the anti-Christ because he only has one (1) NCAA tournament win and has lost some close games recently where we've not looked very good in crunch time.

I get the impression SLU fans are like Cubs fans pre Theo Epstein
I could be wrong but looking at their message board they put a lot of blame on their administration for the "incident" last year

There wasn't much empathy towards the administration when that went down.
I'm not sure I'd put the fan base quite at that level. They're not OK with just being relevant and competitive.
I just found the contrast/similarity interesting re: the fan bases and our new coaches. I don't think too many people realized that Travis Ford had won only ONE NCAA tournament game in his career. That get's little attention here in St. Louis. Yet when UD hires Grant, we have some board folks who can't stop talking about it, like we hired Gerry Faust out of Moeller to take over the Notre Dame football program.

Dayton and Dayton fans care more about UD than SLU fans & STL cares about the Billikens.
The expectations are higher at Dayton than SLU.

Are we going by tickets sold or actual attendance. Because if we go by tickets sold, it will easily be over for both.

They did everything they could to lose that game. SLU driving to the hoop to win the game with 4 seconds left, could have easily been a foul. I don't think it was but it gets called 80% of the time.

In other news, Indiana managed to lose their seventh straight at Rutgers tonight. Outscored 22-0 during a stretch. Is Archie still dialed in like a CPA on Tax Day? As one Twitter guy said, IU has the most profile in-state recruit since Greg Oden, seven other 4-star players, and a 3-star that is one of the better bigs in the league and this is the result. Up next? Trip to Breslin Center.
The more the A10 plays out, the more aggravated I am about that Mason game. We absolutely gave that result away with self-inflicted mistakes. Could be in first place right now.

Still a lot of season left, but I agree that the “what if” game is easy to play right now. Take away a couple of ill-timed turnovers or add a couple of late-game treys and we could be undefeated in this crazy league. Hopefully these guys are growing up as the season progresses because the A-10 is absolutely up for grabs. There is no dominant team, hence St. Joe’s over Davidson, Richmond over St. Louis, Rhode Island over VCU etc. etc.

Some fun IU stats from tonight
21-60 from the floor
6-23 from 3
Outrebounded by 13
Outshot from FT line by 11.
24 fouls vs 17 for Rutgers

The more the A10 plays out, the more aggravated I am about that Mason game. We absolutely gave that result away with self-inflicted mistakes. Could be in first place right now.

The A10 is wide open right now. Everyone has had bad nights. There is an opening for UD if they can avoid more bad nights. Unfortunately, history tells you they will happen.

On the message boards, IndinaScott is reminding everyone that Archie was a terrible hire. He keeps pointing to his record at Alabama as well as his inability to win at LaSalle.
He said Indiana should have hired Ray Harper instead.

Right on.! IU Scott should be happy they have Archie. Who cares about a loss to a horrid Rutgers and being tied for 10th in the B10.
Similarly , Ud Scott should be content with only seven losses so far, and exultant in the big wins over Detroit and Presbyterian. Praise the narrow losses. Ignore the narrow escapes against bottom feeders like SBU and GW. No room for any upgrades here. After all we beat Butler.

Oh my, those are some ugly numbers. I'll bet that locker room was like a morgue after Archie's tongue-lashing.

Attended the Duquesne game tonight. RI up 42-23 at half and they came out asleep. DU tied the score in 9 minutes. Langevine was fouled every time he shot and the result was 3/14 from the line. DU shot 30+ treys!! RI took the air out of the ball and ran the time down to 10 sec. and then looked for a shot. Poor coaching...

There is a reality check that has to set in. The greatest coach in the world can’t win without the right players. In college, the transition often takes 3 years unless you are lucky. Purcell took a lot longer at UD.
No one is thrilled with losses, but it is unrealistic to say that a program starts at ground zero and instantly successful. If that is true, let’s take five guys off the intramural team, play Virginia and then fire the coach when they lose.
You know Archie is a very, very good coach. He does not have the best squad on the floor this year. Does that make him a bad coach? His second year at UD was mediocre. His third year was rugged in January. Should fans have been patient in January of that year? Yes!!!

I'm worried about Duquesne on Sat. They have some talent at the guard position and can shoot. I can see where that could give this team fits, and we can't drop 2 to them and hope to win the conference.
SLU is on the slide now, and we really should win both against them. I don't know if it's Carte'Are Gordon transferring or some combination of factors, but if Richmond can beat them then we should be able to.
Oh, and Fordham beat Rutgers... bad look Archie.

I have not followed IU real close this year but a few things I have read say contrary to this, and that they are actually loaded with talent this year.

I watched the entire Davidson/Bonnie game. Bonnie could not guard/stop the Davidson guards at crunch time. Davidson's guards scored all the points. The took 30 threes and made 14. Their two bigs scored zero.
Our guards better bring their best D, and Cunningham and Obi must/should dominate and score 40+ points. Grady is a tough matchup with his size, driving and shooting.
