Wrong Poll
Should have been How many players still standing at the end of the regular season will UD have?
Not so much a comment that more bad actors are on the team as much as due to injury or fatigue with the remaining 7.
Oh that reminds me I heard there are only 7 scholi players left ....
Do we want to change the moniker from True Team to The Magnificent Seven if they win 20?

With the A-10 down this year, I think we can maybe eke out another 10 wins.
vs. BU
vs. Duq

vs. LaS
vs. SLU

vs. Ford
vs. SBU
vs. SJU
vs. GMU

Fully unencumbered with knowledge about Detwon, or how Arch will approach this, I'm guessing we play about .500 ball the rest of the way. How about 8-4 in ooc and 9-9 in the A10 plus the possibility of one win in the Tournament.
I'm guessing we will play the role of a spoiler in some A10 games, but turn around kick a few away that we should have won.
It's easy to believe that teams will just pound away at our deep post until we foul out.

Wow, I was hammered with a couple bad reps, sent an email or two and an instant message, and told in one of the threads that I must be anti UD and anti Archie for my comments about Archie giving way too many 2nd chances, yet as of 415 PM I am the only pollster who predicts 20 wins.
Archie is a great basketball coach, who learns from his past mistakes. He will find a way for us to get it done.

20 isn't enough. I did the 23. I do not think that impossible, though challenging beyond the beyond.
Anyone here sense a very pleasurable excitement about these next few games?

I would have greater hopes for more wins if there was not the time clock in NCAA basketball. The key for success would be the ability to install a four corners offense and use the talent of the guards to milk the clock, spread the floor and ideally wait for the defense to breakdown so they could drive one on one or leave Seibert open for the three. The Dayton guards are good and quick. DP also can take it to the hole effectively and handle the ball. Pollard would be the only liability on the offensive end of the court and he would be used only to get the offensive rebound or to box out the guy coming to help out on the one on one dribble drive.
Each time the the opposition gets the ball they will put so much pressure on the Dayton defense down low that the Flyers will find themselves either fouling or playing too loose to be effective. There is a reason why coaches recruit tall players even if they are not as coordinated or athletically gifted as some shorter players and this year will will see that reason in spades.
My expectations at the beginning of the year were for about 16 to 18 wins. But that was based on the expectation that neither Scott nor Robinson were capable of improving. Because Scott did improve my projection looked low but now that Scott is gone I will go back to my original projection. Probably 18 wins because the Flyers have already won atleast two games they would probably have lost if not for the improved play of Scott.

I went with 11-13. I hope I am wrong, and Archie is a miracle worker, but I don't see it. If they pull together, play hard, and hustle they will be easy to root for.

I went with 17-19, but I still think they could win 20 if Rogers gets up to speed quickly and stays healthy.

I said 14-16, because I think we go 1-2 in non-con & 8-10 in-con for 16 wins heading to Brooklyn. Hope I'm not giving them enough credit, but they have a heckuva mountain to climb with only 8 guys on scholly and no one over 6'6".

Let's redo this poll if/when Rogers starts playing.
I voted 20-22 assuming Rogers never plays this year, that win total could be higher if Rogers actually plays and contributes significantly.
I know, I'm probably way too optimistic.

I'm still going 20+ wins, because if ever there was a year to face adversity, this is it. The bottom 8-9 teams of the conference are not good. We'll probably drop one or two that we shouldn't, but I still think 20 is rather attainable.

I hope for the best but expect the worst... i just don't see how a short bench literally and figuratively gets more than three *more wins this season. Breaks my heart to say it
We have amazing talent but we are just short.
I do have faith that perhaps AM saw this coming and has had a game plan for running the team w/o a player over 6'6" but the team is most likely not ready to play like that. Boston game will be a nightmare due to lack of preparing. ...and we close out occ with tough competition. BG will come to win, not to have a friendly visit.
We will get scouted and exposed in the post in A10 play. There aren't that many ways we can surprise opponents with our line up.

Robinson was 6'9" but played like he was 6'6". Werhli can take up the slack for Robinson. Werhli just needs to play some defense, set some picks, block out, and get some rebounds. Scott will be missed but Pollard is 6'6" and plays like he is 6'9". If Rogers comes back and gets up to speed quickly we will still have a 9-man rotation. Some of the other players need to pick things up, and I think they will. I think 20 or more wins are still possible. A lot depends on Rogers' health.

No way 31770.
First, there are the dregs of our conference that struggle with division II teams. We are well above those.
Second, talented Villanova plays very small against the big boys. Relative to the A10 I think we are capable that way even if not quite to the same degree.
Third, Archie is seasoned enough now to compete and will surely compete. AND Dayton fans help winning at home--even undermanned and undersized, and yes even under-talented if so.
Now, I picked 23-25 because I am a fanatic about Dayton Flyer basketball right now. Note the root word of fanatic is fan.
I notice there is a nice bell curve, and taking the averages (mean, the mode and the medium) 17 wins seems to be the board's number. I really do think the Dayton Flyers will best that.

I believe I had read earlier this year that AM had toyed with the idea of going with a "small" lineup in certain situations. If so, hopefully he has already formulated some strategies for the situation we now find ourselves in and he doesn't have to start from scratch. I'm assuming the loss of Scott and Robinson will probably cost us five games, everything else being equal, so 18 wins is my guess; I'm hoping for more, but... I think tomorrow's game against BU will tell us a lot, I just hope the kids keep their chins up and don't let this incident get them down.

If i recall, VCU doesn't start anyone over 6'6"... but they've been doing that and prep'ing that since summer... same with nova... Given the knowledge and preparation of playing a style with no center, no forward over 6'6", given out talent and AM coaching, we could be lights out... but this is the end of OOC.
Sure the A10 is down this year... but I remember going into Fordham two years ago and having to win in over time... by two... We had a 20-13 team that year lead by CJ... I'm very very scared to play at Fordham... and i can't believe i'm saying that... winning on the road in the A10 is very very hard...
However there are a lot of very bad teams in the A10 this year...
We don't have time to prepare for BU, BG and GT will want blood.... I don't think we will have time to prep fully for Ole Miss and unfortunately Duquesne, who shouldn't be able to keep up with us under normal circumstances... I can see us having our feet under us at that point, but then we have to go to Olean.... we always have a rough time there... then Fordham... that SHOULD be a win, but on the road, you get no bet from me... see two years ago...
Then home vs La Salle... This might be a win...
SLU... They always seem to come to our house and smack us. but as you point out, they are not a good team this year...
No way we win at Davidson.
Richmond at home... we could win that.
UMass has been on a skid, but they are a good team and will be very very hard to beat on the road.
Fordham at home is the game I'm most confident we will win.
@GW too hard a road game
After that i think it is very hard to predict... Depends on what kind of team we form and the health of our depleted roaster... But really after reviewing the A10 currently, we could be in a much worse state...
Maybe my prediction is a low ball, but I have too see some proof.

Long time since getting rid of BG. I am smoking mad for sure. Going to share that here (madness). I am even going to use the "I told you so" on this (even though I don't ever do that). What is the point of setting a low mark? Screw that.
That thing Scott said about not losing at home, that is key here. The games against BG and Kennedy are not impossible. Those two have plenty of vulnerabilities, and who knows what shows up.
The season has possibilities if we hold serve at home, and not much comes here after Georgia Tech and Mississippi.
The challenge is immense--yes. But, there are things playing out in our favor. I'll tell you all this--losing Scott and Robinson was good for the soul--I felt that immediately.
We don't play 24 games. We play one game against Boston. That's it.
Notice, by my count we're in the A10 what? You don't want to feel like a fighting good chance is there, then don't think about it. But right now this too rich to give up. This is where the fun of competition has value, and the value in turn is the FUN of adrenal butterflies and of being part of embracing the moment. YOU go fishing or go fly a kite-- I'm telling you on this one.
AND, we are not going to lose to Davidson. THEN, after that game tell me where we are.

Thank you DGO67; had to do some research; but I knew to thank you even before looking.
Texas Western had "Big Daddy" who was 6' 6", and the others were quite smaller after that.

I didn't post a prediction nor did I comment in this thread on how bad or good losing those two were. I think that puts me next step down from you guys.

Smitty10, I don't think there are too many others on this thread either. Half the forum has blackballed rollo, and the other half forego.

Glad I get to eat crow on this poll.
Sitting at 19 right now, with 20+ wins on the doorstep, was something that I thought they were going to have a very difficult time doing. Not because of the lack of ability by the players and the coaching staff...but due to the usual trials and tribulations that a team has to work with that don't include the dismissals or players, eligibility issues, and injuries by guys that were on the DL from the get go. Hats off to the entire program for accomplishing what they have done so far. Being undefeated at home is huge, and the TEAM needs butts in the seats more than ever to keep that alive.
Let's all hope that Pollard is able to be on the floor for the remainder of the games. He is a key piece to the TEAM. While more wins can occur without him, he is a core piece to the remainder of the season being successful.
If this type of play continues with a full roster, who knows what the future will bring. The right players, off the court, will only drive the young guys to do the right thing and hopefully that carries on to the incoming freshman next year. Keep rolling...

I went 20-22. Hope I was under-optimistic.

Believe 10 % of what you read, 33% of what you hear, 40% of what you see
and the rest in what you feel.
Forget all that crap...go Flyers!!!

No Reason to Change
Dayton is 9-3 in A-10 play and 19-5 overall. That was my prediction in October. No reason to change it now. They will beat SJU, George Mason and Rhode island and lose to Duquesne, VCU and LaSalle finishing the regular season at 12-6 in A-10 play and 22-8 overall. They can do better or worse depending on health and performance.

No, You DON'T get to eat crow; smoke that bird's feathers.
Make sure you don't mistake a raven for a crow. Do you know a shapeshifter?

Love the optimism! I see only 4% picked 23 or more, so this true team has effectively exceeded all expectations - except maybe their own. I'm sure they are not satisfied yet either...

I was 24 wins before the season, and lowered it to 20-22 after the 2 were kicked off. Glad to be wrong! GO FLYERS!

Thank you 88flyer for the compliment & highlighting my post
I've asked several times who the 1 other was.
Forego was 2 of those 3 (4%) votes {another was his via his sock-puppet Santa Claus }

And that is why I don't gamble for a living. So glad to have been so wrong about this TEAM. They're now in my Top 5 of special Flyer teams, with the '74, '84, '90, & '14 squads. Nothing against other squads (like '96, '98, '00, '09, etc.), but the "special" ones overcame adversity to make it to The Dance. Just like this one will. Man, I love these guys!
