High Level Recruits - Current Status
Pretty sure we were in on some Top Dogs the last 3 to 4 years.
Isaiah guy from the Bronx. kareem Kanty , also of the Bronx.
If you know of more , please post here with their stats.
Just looked at Kareem Kanty. Averaging 19 points , 6 assists for Auburn tigers. Now a Junior. Transferred from Marshall where he scored 16 a game, 5.5 assists.
I know Percy not doing that well, and we had 2 or 3 other transfers or close ones (recruits).

Look no further than Ann Arbor, Mi to see two recruits AM was after.
Caris LaVert has been a beast for UM. While injured right now, he is averaging 17.5 PPG. Last year he averaged almost 15.
Aubrey Dawkins averaged 7PPG last year and is bat aroun 8.5PPG this year. He plays about 20 minutes in a role very similar to Baby D.

I don't normally promote the what-if game, but two key points on this topic ...
1) It is mind blowing how many absolute studs are near misses. Watch the list grow as more people list names which I have forgotten already.
2) I love my current flyers, but there is an underlying truth here ... Archie is doing all this without his first choice (first offered) guys. I know this happens everywhere, but this ups my respect for what Archie has done the past couple years.

Caris LaVert or Pierre? If we have LaVert, I don't think we have Pierre... if I remember the timing right.

I really don't think there's any measurable difference between the average player at UD compared to Providence, tOSU, or most any other school (not saying the top 5 schools). It's the 1 or 2 game changers + coaching that causes the real separation I think.
I think Pierre was that guy--and I distinctly remember making fun of people for saying we got the #4 (?) guy out of Canada in that class. But the real point is that we're good without Pierre, but we don't have a difference maker without him. SS is critical to run the show, KP is a beast, KD plays monster defense, etc. I think all would play similar roles at any school. But we need Pierre to be special, and he would be that kind of special at any school in America.
I can totally see the offense running through him as a "do it all" PF at most any B12, B10, or ACC school. He's not a flashy lottery pick but he's the guy that would make a team win the big game instead of lose it.

tOSU has more players like Pierre whereas UD has one. The elite top ten programs are stockpiled with talent that is a cut above. You can argue if tOSU is really one of those Top Ten, like Duke, UK, NC, Kansas....

It's impossible to prove one way or the other, but I don't think so. When I watch Northwestern vs. tOSU last night they had no one on either team as skilled as DP. He would start for both teams. Iowa, Rutgers, most of the B10 (toughest basketball conference right now?) he would start. Ignore the flashy name on the jersey and really watch the play. Everyone has some player where you could say to me "do you really think he would start over xxxx?" I would flip it around and say "do you really think xxxx would start over Pierre at UD?" No.
Even Maryland, one of the top teams in the country. Would he be able to start over Jake Layman at SF? I think he could. He's a better 3 point shooter, better rebounder, better passer. Would Jake start at UD? Maybe, but in place of KP with DP moving over to the PF spot.

I agree, a school like Duke probably always has at least a 4 star player at every position in the starting 5.
Just look at their verbalcommits page, every single scholarship player, except for 3 big men, is a 4 star player or better.

I don't know that Derek Pardon counts as a close call, as we offered him, but he is averaging 12 and 9 for Northwestern in just 4 games so far this year. He had 9 and 14 against Ohio State last night.

Well then we'll never be able to compete against tOSU, Providence, Vandy, Iowa, most SEC schools, Syracuse, Florida. . . don't belong on the same court as them I guess.

Actually, Duke has 11 guys on scholarship this year, 7 out of the 11 are 5 star players. And 3 out of their 4 incoming freshmen recruits for next year are 5 star players. They just stockpile the top talent.

And all that talent gets them to be the 4th or 5th best team in Ohio.

It would be nice to get a few top recruits, but when they work out, they are one or two and done. What did Ohio St gain with that great kid last year? Probably a similar story with Simmons at LSU and Sumner at X. Of course we all want better recruits, who will play very well, but stay 3-4 years.

As UD continues to develop, the ability to recruit better talent becomes easier.
Pierre, Sibert, etc will pave the way for better and better talent. Just have to keep it going.
UD can't stockpile players like Duke, but now UD can compete for players that they never had a chance 10-15 years ago.

Depth past the starters is usually the kicker. Those players are 3 and 4 star prospects. Most all Mid-Majors can't compete in late-season tournaments because their backup players get dominated by the quality of depth that they face.
Most are forced to overplay their starters because their backups lose ground when they're in there. Only the very best make perennial runs in the NCAA's. And a few, like Gonzaga, Butler, and _avier have even outgrown the Mid-Major label, by making their presence commonplace in the tourney. We have too much going for us in the present state not to become one ourselves.
Name another Mid-Major that has the jimmy's and joe's to compete with the big boys, but also has play-calling and coaching ingenuity to dominate with x's and o's..
Pierre was a legitimate 4-star prospect that was overlooked as a prep. I would've never thought a little known player from Canada may be the best Flyer since May, but it may very well turn out that way.

Just to be clear (and repeat), I'm not saying this applies to the top programs. I'm talking about the schools after the top programs. We do not compare to Duke, Kansas, etc.

That's what I'm talking about. Go to Duke, you get 5 stars. Go to UD, you're a 3 star. But I really don't see much difference in the average player. I'm calling BS on that.
Clearly, this does not apply to Kentucky.

Josh Cunningham was a 4* and top 100 recruit coming out of Morgan Park, as Archie said on his radio show Monday. Josh will be the best rebounder, that he has. Since being here
