MSOC: Flyers Shut Down 1st Place VCU 1-0
Game Recap: http://www.udpride.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32457
Probably best result of the season. Defense was outstanding, limiting 1st place VCU to 0 shots on goal for the match. Our offense was once again pretty spotty and despite generating a lot of shots couldn't put many on frame. But we put one in the back of the net and one was enough.
A win against Fordham in the regular season finale may punch our A10 Tourney ticket for good.

Great match last night. The guys played really really well. VCU is a strong side. Their passing is sharp and crisp, their field vision is excellent, and they have some very fleet-footed strikers up top.
Thought the key to the match was getting numbers behind the ball and not letting their fast strikers go one on one. Not allowing a single SOG is amazing.
The box score shows a single assist for Lianes on the Fjeldberg goal. That wasn't the half of it. The real assist on that goal goes to the central defender (not sure who it was) who stepped up and picked off a pass in the back, carried it forward toward the attacking third, and then fed it off to Lianes on the wing. Sweet sweet move.
Special cred to the Red Scare core group that never stopped cheering and chanting the whole evening. From the moment I walked into Baujan, I felt their energy and I am sure the guys did as well. The seniors in that group received well-earned recognition at halftime for their 4 years of effort. Well-deserved - and after the match it was a love-fest between the players and the Red Scare group.
Another very tough road match at Fordham Wednesday. Realistically, there are 4 teams fighting for the last 2 spots in the A-10 tournament - Dayton with 10 points, SBU with 9, and Duquesne and St Joe with 8 apiece. All 4 are playing top tier teams that have already qualified for the A-10 tournament. Win and we are in, tie and it possibly goes to tiebreakers, lose and we have to hope others do as well.
