Massachusetts Game Thread
Solid start to the Conf Schedule... Part 2 of the 5 part UD In-Conference Revenge Tour... UMass won at La Salle today by 7. Let's keep it going and hopefully hit some more shots on Wednesday.
Game is at 8 PM on Wednesday Night on the CBS Sports Network
Starting Lineup:
G 12 Trey Davis 6’0” 180 SR DeSoto, TX
G 5 Jabarie Hinds 6’0” 180 RS SR Mount Vernon, NY
G 0 Donte Clark 6’4” 188 SO Charlotte, NC
F 24 Seth Berger 6’8” 212 RS SO Seattle, WA
C 45 Rashaan Holloway 6’11” 335 FR Elmer, NJ
Their 3 guards carry the team, all average at least 15 a game, Trey Davis averages about 20 a night. Containing them is the key.
Let's Go 2-0 in the A10... Go UD!

The year of injuries
Seems like this year their have been more injuries than in years past, both mens and womens teams, mid majors and majors. Teams other than just flyers experiencing setbacks and challenges. Presents opportunities for those ready to step up.

I agree. And to be specific, can Steve stay on the floor in the first half. AM did say at his radio show this week the 5th foul on Steve last game was not a foul. We need Steve on the floor with KP out.

John Crosby is improving each game. So far, he is playing under control and making good decisions. We need him for 10 minutes per game to give Scoochie a rest and to develop his own game.

Evidently the Minutemen haven't gotten the message on moving screens. They have had four of them. Flyers' defense is forcing them to pass the perimeter with not much penetration.

That last 4 minutes was where UD has faltered in the last 4-5 games. UMass went on a 6-0 run to cut it to and 8 point lead. McElvene scores 2 buckets and it's back to 12.
That's progress.

At least up to this point, UMass is shooting the ball very poorly from outside. Given those averages for the three guards, I thought they might be a real threat from the 3-line.

According to the game stats anyone who has shot a FT is the best FT shooter today for the Flyers (5-5 overall).

Big Steve is playing a very good game. His team members need to understand that you can't whip passes to him as you might another guard...two errant passes to him, neither one his fault.

Again, announcers not doing their homework before the game. Mentioned that Big Steve has really improved his foul shooting this year. Really? This is his first year.

Spacing and ball movement better without Kendall. He might pick up a few things watching this half.
Even the best hands can't handle a hard 6 foot pass in traffic. Steve has good hands.
UD with no real stupid fouls. Ok maybe Steve's first foul.
Points off turnovers = UD 17, UMass 2.

Except for that three possession stretch where we missed all threes and Massachusetts cut the lead to eight, we avoided that stretch of funk which seems to catch us each game. A very solid effort all around, really.

So nice to be here breathing freely the whole game! Barring a total collapse, this should be the most relaxed I've been in weeks, lol.
It's also great seeing Kellogg so distressed. 😃

Crosby getting lots of minutes today. Tre Davis is quite a one man show for them.

30 point lead with 5:28 to go. Starting to relax about this one.

Dare we say that it is time to make the public transportation vehicle nice and toasty?

I hope Scooch is okay, it's not typical for him to be done at about the 15 minute mark.

Good to see Bobby hit that 3. I will always appreciate what he did for the Flyers last year.

Nice 3 for Mikesell, but I wanted to see Joey take a shot.

That's part of a blowout...give your key players some rest!

I don't understand why the other walkons don't get in a game like this. Even for the last minute.

I agree, but AM's MO is not to rest them for most of the 2nd half. I'm hoping it's because he feels it's extra important to get JC lots of minutes when he can. Also, he left KD in there for almost the whole half.

Given the limited minutes for some of the scholarship players, the walk ons will not see much court time this year.

Good Lord...why would turn on KP like that? He's been nothing but a plus for the program since he arrived. Idiot...

I think Archie sees these minutes as too valuable to get the players that are going to be used time on the floor. Gruden is the first walk-on off the bench obviously. The walkons are there for one reason and one reason only and that's practice. At the end of the season, when everyone is comfortable with being on the floor and their roles, then you give them the appreciative minute on the floor. Not only that, it probably doesn't do the the back scholarship players much good to have the walkons on the court with them at the same time.

Lighten up. Rollo's one of KP's biggest supporters and I'm sure he was just saying that for fun.

Just once I want to see them play the last minute with Gruden, Bonsu, Westerfield, Schweiterman and Dupuy. (Sounds like a great law firm.)
Call a timeout with a 25 point lead and one minute left, and let the guys have a minute in the spotlight. They earned it getting beat up in practice day after day.

I don't know about that but I wanted to see Miller sub for Kyle at the end and have all 5 freshman on the floor.
