IPFW Game Thread
It's officially Game Week! Finally!
IPFW lost their leading scorer from last year but Luis Jacobo is pre-season all Summit League.
Potential Starting Lineup (tough to gauge though):
G Kevin Harden 6'2" 180 SR
G Pierre Bland 6'2" 215 SR
F Luis Jacobo 6'5" 215 SR
F Joe Reed 6'7" 205 SO
F Michael Kibiloski 6'7" 245 SR
Hopefully the team learned from the exhibition game how the games might be officiated... Go Flyers!

Has anybody found an IPFW message board or anything close to? I like seeing the other teams point of view before games, but I can't seem to find one for IPFW.

Three comments Bucky made on the pre-game show: Gavs has been tearing it up in practice, people will be pleased with Scott who is the most improved player on the team and Pierre will lead this team in scoring.

Actually getting a fair amount in the paint. Off dribble drive from the wing.
I am of the camp it doesn't matter how you get the ball inside, you just have to. This team is much better suited to do so off the bounce.

On pace for 80+ points again. If not for that 9 point run by IPFW early in the half this is a 15-20 point lead. Defense was better the last 10 min of the half.

Impressed by Khari and look forward to watching this guard play.
Hope to see some stronger defense from the Flyers the second half. Somewhat surprised and pleasantly at the number of fouls.
Anyone attending? If so, how is the attendance?

Live it is obvious they are out there to screen and let Sanford, Sibert, Oliver and Pierre drive the ball to the rim. Kav, Scott, Robinson, and Gav are going to get points off rebounds and dump offs from penetration. Not posting up. Kav has tried to post up about 3 or 4 times. He can't. Defender gets a hand on every shot.

We allowed them to shoot 50% from beyond the arc and 46%+ from the field at Home. Once again, it seems our "D" is MIA. Maybe the word "defense" isn't in AM's vocabulary.

And here I thought with all the talk on this board our defensive struggles last year was all due to Kevin Dillard. Guess not. Concerning.

The Flyers are way, way too casual for the basketball. Devin Oliver is a senior. He cannot commit those cheap fouls and throw the ball away!

Down by 7 now...how do these all these teams get these good, strong big guys and we can't seem to do it? This is a terrible performance in the second half. Eight turnovers in the second half.

Even if we pull this out in the final three minutes, if I am Archie the minute the game is over we line up and run until the arena is empty. Then we clean the place from top to bottom picking up every last piece of trash and scrubbing ever last crapper, then we run some more. Ridiculous way to start the season.

Why did Archie wait until we're down 7 to start pounding the ball low?

78 points given up to a team that is not even in the top 5 in Indiana.

Wow!
A win is a win. At the end of the season when a team is being evaluated, all they look at is whether they won or lost.
With that said, I have many many concerns with this team after today. Starting with how do you allow 80 pts in regulation to IPFW. My concerns really starts and ends with the coaching staff. I would be all for making the coaching staff run wind sprints and clean the arena.
But again, a win is a win. Whew!

Price misses a FT in the final minute
Sibert misses a FT in the final minute
Price steals it, passes to Sibert, Swish! UD wins!
Redemption!
Ridiculous!
But I'll take it.

So a 6'9" 320# transfer from Stetson pastes us for 17? Can't wait to see what we can do against quality bigs.

Incredible finish. Never doubted we would win (right!).
This site crashed multiple times in the second half and I thought it was a strange parallel to the crashing of the Flyers the second half.
Rita was the MVP.

UD was very, very, very lucky to get that win. If that is how we play D, it's going to be a long season. That team we played was not good. I will give the players a lot of credit to keep their heads in the game and not quit until the final buzzer though.

Great Video. Three things, is that Jim Kelce (sp?) calling the game? Price traveled before he passed to Jordan and at the end watch Archies eye bug out when we intercept the ball

I think you mean Kyle Davis traveled. I thought Price might be called for traveling when he caught the ball and went to the ground.

So Price intercepted, Davis passed (and possibly traveled) and Siebert made the three. Is that what happened?

Not good, but,....

Hopefully, the trend will be lasting.

It's gotta be heart-wrenching for IPFW. This would have been a big win for them. Not that we are so great, but to come into UD Arena and win your first road game would have been a great way to start the season. They basically did everything they needed to do to win except for that last inbound play.
That being said, a win is a win. On to the next game!

Well two inbound plays.
Turns out a good thing Sibert missed the late free throws. Last thing I would have wanted to see was Ayton defending in a tie game with 10 left.
Also looked to me like Miller was not planning on having Price intentionally miss the second with 6.4 left. Otherwise seems he still would have to rebound and kick it out for three. Down two maybe they would have, but it looked like they were going to make, press and foul.
I thought IPFW fouled too soon. Under 5.
And they parted the Red Sea for Price layup. Too easy with too much time.

Ah, that's right. I take that back. They did everything they needed to do until about the last 20 seconds or so. I actually got distracted and missed some of what happened between Sibert's missed free throw and the final inbound play. I am not a fan of fouling when up 3 at the end of a game. Too many bad things can happen, as we saw with the final inbound play. So that was another mistake they made in my book. Now I don't feel so sorry for them anymore. Haha

I do not understand why IPFW gave Price the lane and the free layup.

I don't believe Davis traveled. He took a step while passing the ball.

I agree. You are allowed a step when you pass or shoot. Also Price did not travel when he fell down. Falling down is not a travel. If you try to gain an advantage once you fall (e.g. crawl or rollover) then that is a travel.

Obviously we can score and sounds like Khari and Pierre had very good games in that department. I just got in to catch up on box score and report. Can some people answer some questions for someone who didn't see any of the game.
How were Scott's minutes? Any quality or positives in them?
Sounds like Vee and Oliver were off offensively. Did they key on these guys or were they just off?
What was FW defensive game plan?
Sounds like Kavs had good day on the boards (11 in box score). any more comments about him, Jalen and Gavs please
thanks

You're only allowed a step when you pass or shoot OFF THE DRIBBLE. Since Davis wasn't dribbling, it was a travel...and a gift.
BTW...falling down is a travel if you have possession of the ball prior to falling. Because by doing so, you change your pivot foot to your butt. In this case, it was a diving possession so the 'pivot' wasn't established until he landed...and thankfully didn't roll left or right.

Why did they put :01 back on the clock?
We hit the 3, they took it out of the net,
threw it in, shot and missed.
Did IPFW coach call a TO?
Great finish!

The clock is supposed to stop in the last minute after a made basket. The clock was stopped at 0:005. The refs reviewed and determined it should be 0:01. It still seems really strange that it appears IPFW got two chances to win.
