Murray State Game Thread
Time to regroup after Sunday's tough loss... Shake it off and get back at it.
Definitely not the same murray state team like the last few years.
Starting Lineup:
G Cameron Payne 6'2" 175 FR
G Dexter Fields 6'2" 190 SR
F Jeffery Moss 6'4" 185 SO
F Jonathan Fairell 6'7" 265 JR
F Jarvis Williams 6'8" 210 JR
Big time scorer of the bench, T.J. Sapp, transfer from Clemson just became eligible... averaged 20 pts in the first two games off the bench for MS
Game is at 2:00 PM on Sunday on Fox Sports Ohio... Go Flyers!

If the Racers two big wins over NAIA schools are taken out of the mix, Murray State is 294th in both scoring margin (-6.3) and rebounding margin (-4.1)
The Flyers rank 82nd in scoring margin (+8.8) and 77th in rebounding margin (+4.6) - while playing a tougher schedule.
Even with the addition of the high-scoring T.J. Sapp to the Racer backcourt, the Flyers should mop the floor with this team.

agreed - especially after what happened our last time out.
I will be disappointed if this is anything less than a double digit win

Once again we underestimate an opponent and get punched in the chin to start a game. This team needs a shrink.

There are 2 parts to a pick-and-roll that have to be done in sequence for it to work.

KP has not been himself lately. I wonder if the grind of the season is exacerbating his knee problems. If that's the case, we should start using the freshman more and reduce his minutes to where he can sustain a high level of play.

After a Scoochie foul, "Khari Price hobbles into the game."
Not what you want to hear about the starting point guard.

Derrick Dukes says, right after Oliver missed a reverse layup and Murray State missed the alley-oop, "It's a fun game to watch".

Murry State is horrible...with that said, today's effort isn't going to help us win any games in conference.

I think that the first 10 minutes were pretty slow. A couple of brain farts at the end of 1st half. After that they dominated for the most part. I don't think they looked great but the defense really picked up and you don't finish +19 in boards if there is an effort issue

Not sure how much of it was good defense and how much was poor perimeter shooting. Murray State certainly did not assert themselves in hitting open shots.
No real complaints though. Ill take 20pt wins however we get them.

I felt like more physical play was allowed in this game vs most other games I have seen this year. If this had been the first game of the year, there would have been 200 fouls.

Beat the spread. 16/17 sounded like a lot to start. It seems the lead expands in fits and starts. Glad I'm not a betting man.

Yeah. today's stripes didn't seem to have gotten the pre-season memo about hand-checking specifically and physical defense in general. I saw several times today where the defender should have had a saddle, with the way he was riding the ballhandler. There was also a lot of contact under the hoop that wasn't getting called.
All in all, I'll take the "cleaner" game, as long as they don't go too far in the other direction and give the offense every break.

Do we another guard in next years recruiting class? Price's knees scare me. Maybe one more guard capable of playing the point. I dont think Davis can run the point yet.

Not only that, but changing horses mid stream to likely Scoochie starting and Vee relieving with a dash of Kyle Davis is a big switch giving Scooch the reins.
He's not consistent enough or experienced enough. Unless he's capable of growing into it quickly with 24 minutes a game.
I too am worried about Price's knees.

Darrell Davis can play point. Similar to Davis, don't think it's his primary spot.

Shoot 52%from the field
46% from 3point line
Rebound 44-24
17ass't
13T.O.'s not great, not bad
Two guys with double doubles
Effort on floor going after 50/50 balls through the roof......easy to pick out a couple bad plays and dwell on them when you want to.

Heard earlier today that they have tried just about everything. He's had MRI's, gets treatment every single day, and just can't seem to get better. Not sure the problem is correctable surgically. Khari is pretty bow-legged, which probably contributes to things. They are already limiting him in practice; may limit him even more now. Maybe he needs to try the platelet-rich plasma therapy that Kobe Bryant and Metta World Peace (and others) have tried. Sounds like a month of ice baths and zero running would help, but uh, that seems unlikely at the start of conference play.

I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night ...
I think THirt is right on the money with his thoughts. By the way, I think Khari shrunk another inch and a half with his new haircut. 5'11"??? More like 5'8".

Where Khari comes from, I reckon platelet-rich plasma therapy is a fancy word for voodoo.

While working and playing AAU after UD, I had tendonitis in both knees due to an excess of practice and games on asphalt tile-over-concrete gyms. Just can't get rid of it during a season. But in the off-season with rest, ice, and a low stress bicycle regiment it will go away. Similar to achilles heal issues.
I recall the worst of it was getting warmed up, then sitting out for 5/10 minutes and, then returning to the floor. No fun.

Was he terrible at the line last year, too, in your opinion? Because you seem to imply he was much better at the line last year.
Going into Murray State, he was a 71.4% FT shooter this year. After going 3-8, he is now a 66% FT shooter. Last year, he was a 67.1% FT shooter.
So, he is 1.1% worse at the FT line this year than last. If he is terrible at the line this year, what was he last year?
This was his first game shooting 8 FTs. He's gone 4-7 and 5-7 from the FT line before. And he's hit 4, 5, 5, and 6 FTs when shooting 6 FTs.
He had a bad FT game today. Let's not exaggerate though, please? (Unless you've always thought he was a terrible FT shooter...)
But, then, I'm just here to cherry-pick stat inaccuracies, so, flame me away mercilessly.

He does. He said his strength "is getting my teammates the ball." He had some really sweet dimes when I saw him play the other day.
