Davidson Game Thread
Always tough to roll into the Belk Arena and get a win... Keep consistent and do what we do.
Game is at 9 PM on Friday Night and will be shown on ESPN2.
Starting Lineup:
G 12 Jack Gibbs 6’0” 195 SR Westerville, Ohio
G 3 Jon Axel Gudmundsson 6’4” 190 FR Grindavik, Iceland
G 20 Kishawn Pritchett 6’6” 230 FR Mooresville, North Carolina
F 23 Peyton Aldridge 6’8” 225 JR Leavittsburg, Ohio
F 40 Andrew McAuliffe 6’8” 260 SR Northbrook, Illinois
They have missed 6'11" normal starter Will Magarity the last 2 games with concussion-like symptoms... Hopefully he is still out lol.
It is only a 2 person team with Gibbs & Aldridge (they are the only two guys that average in double figures... Gibbs 21.2 PPG 4.3 RPG 4.4 APG and Aldridge 20.7 PPG 7.9 RPG.
Keep an eye out for Gibbs, he has been playing with a Mask on after breaking his nose. He also got clocked pretty good at the end of their last game in Richmond, so he is probably not anywhere close to 100%.
One More Game before the Rematch on 3/1... Get it done... Go UD!

What worries me most is that Davidson has been ice-cold shooting the ball the last several games and I'm afraid they're due to "go off" against us. Somehow, we always seem to get everyone's best shot...run-of-the-mill players can look like All Americans against us at times and it drives me nutz. You know their gym will be rockin-and-rollin', I just hope the refs don't get caught up in it and get whistle crazy.

Hopefully if anything sways the refs in this game, it's a first place matchup between UD and VCU.

I'm 99.9% sure Bernadette has already informed the officials that UD and VCU are not allowed to lose this weekend.

Will be there with my Mom and Dad. Cannot wait. Our last experience there was wildly disappointing, although it is a cool place to watch a game and a great atmosphere. The campus is very quaint and beautiful. Reminded me of Richmond and Furman.

although we won last year at UDA, Gibbs just torched us for 35. Hope we can hold him to less than his average or it could be a tough night in NC.

It is always an interesting strategy argument as to whether you are still okay by letting the shooter get his points and shutting down the rest of the guys and playing good defensive and offense. Many times it works, like it did against Bonnie, and last year with Davidson. The Flyers are good enough this year that they can still win with a guy scoring 35.
Two years ago Sibert scored 23 and so did Pollard, but we lost by 17. Davidson, a terrible defensive team that year, let these two, and only these two score and shut off everyone else, while going wild on the offensive end on our excessive turnovers.

Dav has only one win of consequence, beating VCU at home. VCu went 3-17 from 3 with Jaquan Lewis going 3-10 while everyone else missed them all. That was pretty much the story. As usual JG and PA did almost all the scoring (78%) and rebounding, (50%). We are going to have to be efficient from 3 and keep those two under some control. Hopefully our tenacious defense digs in to frustrate them and tire them out.

The only bad thing is that Cooke can't guard both of them at the same time. I'm guessing he doesn't start the game on either one, but if one of them gets hot he moves onto them. Xman will probably start on Aldridge but the question will be if Mikesell can guard him when he subs in. Darrell probably starts on Gibbs, but I would be tempted to start Cooke on him and then put Kyle on him when he subs in for Darrell. Big key to the game is to not let Gibbs get started, but you don't want to wear Cooke out by chasing Gibbs everywhere. Hopefully Darrell and Kyle can slow him down.

They are the same size and I think Kyle can guard him, but if you have a guy with the length of Charles that makes it even more difficult on Gibbs. That's what Archie had to go to after Kyle and Darrell couldn't stop Jaylen Adams from Bona on Saturday.

Monmouth and Siena is going to make me use ESPN3/WatchESPN for the start of the UD game aren't they? At least I have heard no mention of the annoying Monmouth Bench Mob yet!!!!!
I just came up with an advantage for 9pm games. More time to pregame but that may not be good for the quality of my posts by the end of the night.

It's crazy with Magarity out, they have only 3 guys in the lineup that average over 4.8 PPG... The other one is the Icelandic G that averages 8.1 per game.

Big Game boys. Need this one. Davidson wouldn't be an eyesore on the resume but it is a damaging loss. Keep on keepin' on. Set up the showdown.

So Archie has put Kendall on Aldridge. Obviously doesn't think Mikesell can guard him.
And now we have a review because the refs know they're on TV

Amazingly enough Capel is right. UD is trying to go too quick. Flyers have the advantage if they just run the offense.

DirecTV's back, which is good because Watch ESPN wasn't loading, either. It's a conspiracy.

Nice steal by Kyle, and then forced the foul by Gibbs.

Hard to b!tch about officiating, but that foul on Kyle could just as easily have been a moving screen.

Darrell hits a 3.
Aldridge gets a layup against Mikesell. Ryan simply can't guard him.

Yep. Ryan not long enough to stay with Aldridge. Also, (fill-in-the-blank) is giving Gibbs too many open looks. Gotta stay on him like stink on...

I have no inside information, but I suspect Gibbs was discussed every day leading up to this game. Maybe. Just a hunch.

What was that 3 by Xman??????
And then he fumbles an easy pass for an over and back.
May be time for Pollard and Cunningham at the same time.

Haven't heard Kendall's name called much since the opening minutes. Need to get him working inside and getting Aldridge some fouls.
