Wow, he knocked it out of the park. What a smart, articulate, powerful speaker he is. I'm as proud of this guy as a graduate of Dayton as I am of his coaching potential. He's as well-spoken as any head coach I've ever heard, and he did it all off the top of his head. No notes. He clearly loves the school, insists he'll be there for his players and the incoming recruits, briefly outlined his on-court playing vision, and spoke with self-assurance about his own life journeys. The word "class" is overused in sports, but with this guy it's perfectly apropos. I hope we get the results we want because it's going to be easy to really like Anthony Grant.

I loved he wrapped this celebration of a new era by including the graduating seniors, the current team, the incoming recruits and the Flyer Nation. That's pure class and shows he understands this is bigger than "one man', and those were his exact words.

Imagine getting up in front of a group and giving that speech off the top of your head. He is genuine and articulate. But the reason he can do it is because it comes from the heart. You don't need notes to speak the truth. I am very excited with Anthony back here at UD.

I would like to amend my initial reaction to this hire. I said it was an excellent hire but I wasn't blown away. (I also said I wasn't blown away by any of the other candidates either.) After this press conference I am now blown away. Let's get ready to rock!

Quite frankly, the players are the key recruiters. They can absolutely influence the incoming frosh to stay committed.

Your spot on, young HS recruits will see in our new head coach a role model. I can't imagine any family/parent not having complete confidence in Coach Grant & his staff to finish raising their kid. His humble Miami origins will allow him to relate to any kid, & the prideful & confident way he carries himself just oozes leadership... and let's not underestimate Coach Grant being a Flyer which gives him the credibility to speak to recruits about his alma mater.

Gang- if we can sustain the success Archie started we have a real opportunity to give those larger P5 programs a run for the best HS recruits.

I too was super impressed with everything about Coach Grant at the press conference. Glad to hear that Damon Goodwin was there. I do wish he would have spoken a bit mire about what Coach Donoher meant to him. Excited about the future if thus program.

	Don Donoher DON DONOHER Legendary Flyer men's basketball coach who guided Dayton to 435 victories in 25 seasons (1964-1989) including the 1967 NCAA Runner-Up. Took over the program after the passing of Tom Blackburn and earned many NCAA and NIT bids over his career, including five Sweet-16s, one Elite Eight appearance, and the 1968 NIT Championship. Groomed All-Americans Don May and Jim Paxson, along with all-time leading scorer Roosevelt Chapman. Coached UD as they joined conference affiliation for the first time (Midwest Collegiate). A graduate of UD, Donoher played for Blackburn and credits much of his coaching success to his mentor's teachings: defense, ball protection, patience, and unselfishness.

Anthony was very impressive today. He looks like he is in playing shape. He had intensity in his aura. Did not smile a lot, but was thrilled to be back.

I liked his comments about dominating the A10 and advancing in the NCAA.


The only assistant I saw was Tom. I have gotten to know the assistants over the last 6 years. They work very hard and conduct themselves with class. Tom talked about his kids being born and living in Dayton. The community and university is special to him. Tom is very gracious.

It was exciting to see coach Donoher and former players there. Anthony had big hugs for his former teammates.

Players seemed excited about coach Grant. They are apprehensive about a new coach, but they like his pedigree. I think he made a good first impression on them.

He knows what he needs to do.

I too am pretty **** happy with this hire right now. Now imagine if his first "win" is convincing McKinley Wright to stay. he's gonna bag alot of goodwill and collateral right off the bat if he can pull that off.

Enthusiasm was high till he started trying to walk-the-walk. No one hopes AG's success will surpass Archie's more than I do. But my judgement will await results!

AG: "the program is in position to do more".

I am expecting him to advance the program, or at least maintain the level we are now at, that is my expectation.

I wish him well, and hope that he can deliver.

Very well done. I echo the sentiment about articulate--he chose his words carefully at critical times and IMO chose the precise words he wanted. Not easy to do when on your feet, and knowing that people will pick apart every word and intonation in each word. Impressive.

I'm actually far more satisfied that AG is coming aboard now, after he's had 9 years of HC experience and 2 years as an NBA assistant. I'd think he's picked up a lot of wisdom since he first hired-on at VCU 11 years ago.
