I heard the Archie Miller show on the radio tonight. Archie expects the frontcourt of GTech to be good. Said we are going to have to rebound well among other things.

Flyers played teams with quick 3 guard lineups the first 3 games. GT is decidedly different than that.

Here's one area that we match-up very well at:
vs.
Advantage: Morgan Miller and the Flyers

For us to compete, we need to shoot >60% on 3's and they need to hit <60% on free throws. I don't see how our bigs will neutralize theirs and am expecting the refs to be quick with their whistles.

I haven't seen GTech play a minute of basketball, so take this w/ a grain of salt, but based upon what I saw out of BG's teams at UD, the key to beating BG is to get back in transition, something the flyer's struggled with greatly in games 1 & 2, and limiting the amount of dribble penetration, another thing UD struggled with in games 1 & 2 and for about 10 minutes against STFUNY. Make it a half court game and if they can hit their jumpers, they've got a shot to win. BG's teams typically struggled at the free throw line, and I've read that this GTech team struggles there as well. Archie's teams have all been good free throw shooters, so don't be afraid to let the game get a bit ugly and make it a grinder. BG's teams were rarely good in a grinder type game, but were great in a high tempo game.

Medford and rollo are on the right track.
Dayton will need to get to the line and hit their threes b/c Tech guards very well inside the arc. They have plenty of size and aggressively help against the dribble-drive. Just like BG's Dayton teams, Tech is susceptible against a drive & kick offense, but Archie's Flyers have not shown the spacing or capability to pull that off. Dayton wants to dribble drive into the paint, which plays right into GT's defensive game plan. It is a very interesting match-up in that regards.
Another interesting match-up is on the glass. Dayton has shown to be an above-average offensive rebounding team like we thought, but Tech consistently controls the defensive glass.
On defense, I think you'll see Archie aggressively doubling the post. They will need to show different looks on defense in the post all game. If they stand behind their bigs all night it will get ugly. If Tech beats you behind the arc, then so be it.
BG still coaches offense like the Russians defended Stalingrad - no style or much substance, but through attrition. If Dayton doesn't turn it over, then GT will struggle to score. If the Flyers follow recent trends and cough it up too much they won't have a chance. Turnover margin is the single-most important stat to watch tomorrow night.

We're going to find out real quick if Sibert is still worthy of that Top 50 HS ranking. He rarely saw significant minutes against worth opponents while at tOSU and after sitting out a year with us, the best competition he's played against in well over a year is Pierre...
GT and Gonzaga, I hope, is his coming out party.

I watched maybe 10 minutes of GT's last game vs. Georgia at Georgia.
It looked like GT likes to run in transition as much as possible.
They've got some size, it looked like they rebounded well at both ends.
It didn't look like they were a very good outside shooting team.
It looked like they might have had a hard time driving to the basket out of their normal offensive sets. It didn't look like they got the ball into the low post enough either.
Their defense looked ok I guess. Georgia scored 71 points against them. Georgia couldn't hit any outside jumpers for the part of the game that I watched.

I haven't seen this Georgia Tech team either, but we are all familiar with BG and his coaching style. Knowing how BG and Archie both like to play, I don't like this match up at all. The game of basketball is all about match ups and at least on paper, I don't like how we match up. Tech just has more size and bulk.
BG's teams here at Dayton always struggled in the half court on offense. BG's teams played best when they could get turnovers and get out in transition. In order to beat a BG team you need to limit turnovers and force them to play offense in the half court. That may mean playing zone defense and packing it in the paint. Looking at the stats this Georgia Tech team isn't shooting the ball real well from the outside anyway. Will we stop dribble drive and pack it in the paint on defense? I don't know. Archie's teams haven't shown much zone or much of an ability to stop dribble drive. On top of that, we haven't taken care of the ball at all this year. Points off of turnovers will be a big stat in my book. Need to limit our turnover to 10 or 12 to win. Advantage Tech
The one thing you could always count on from a BG coached team was defense and rebounding. This UD team can shoot from outside and they'll need to hit from outside because we won't get much going to the rim and second chance points will be limited. I don't see us having an advantage picking up fouls driving to the hoop either. (not on the road and not against a BCS program) Advantage Tech
We need a big game from Kav. Tech has a size advantage, so we need Kav on the floor for both defense and rebounding. (offensive rebounding!) He has to stay out of foul trouble. We also need a solid game from Scott and man, do we need Jalen to come out of his funk. This game will be won or lost in the post. We don't need to win the battle inside but we can't get dominated on the inside. If we win this game it will be because of superior play on the wings. (Sanford, Sibert, and Pierre) These three need to crash the glass on both ends of the court. They need to slash to the rim and pull the trigger on the outside when they are open. A dominate performance on the wings and we could just outscore Tech to get the win.
Price will also be a big factor. He has played well to this point and we need another solid performance. We don't need a ton of points just steady play. He has played with aggression and confidence. He's not afraid to take it to the rim or shoot the outside three pointer. I've loved his game to this point in the season. He's been the biggest surprise for me this year. He's killed any debate of who should start at point. Here is hoping for a solid game. Good luck Flyers.

I hope BG and GT run, run, run.
That is what AM/UD want to do.
Our half court off leads to very few good shots
Let's see what an open transitions game brings.
Go Flyers!

Really? AM's half court offense is better than BG's half court offense was. Force BG into a slowdown, half court game.
I'd really love to see AM play a zone defense the entire game.

Along with playing some half court zone defense, I also like to see us mix in some full court pressure. Let's use some of that depth and see if we can't get some steals.

To me, this is going to be one of the most interesting games for Flyer fans ever. Which coach will prevail? I can't wait to see the board discussion no matter which way the cards fall.

About 3 or 4 very questionable calls including this last out of bounds. Neither of Pierre's fouls looked like a foul.

a few of them were when the offense was breaking down with not to much time left (shouldnt have been in the position to begin with) so don't blame him too much. his pretty good inside game today, assists, rebs, and hustle are a reason to keep him in

GT played awfully dumb. Silly TOs and their advantage is with their big guys but they weren't patient enough to keep getting them the ball. My guess is they will come out in the 2nd half and pound it inside

turnovers on both sides...if dayton makes half of their shots they're up by 15. or if they cut their TO's down.
sibert has the green light the rest of the game. pierre cant get a quick foul coming out of the half.

Vee with sweet shot to end the half. Flyers up 39-32. We must have 10 or 11 steals. Defense really getting after it.

also the backside guy has to drop down if we're gonna front the post. GT is pulling everyone up towards the 3 line to try to get that lob over. did a better job of that player recognizing that towards end of the half

Sibert is ballin'. 7 point lead without Pierre. Just need to keep the intensity up and keep GT from gaining momentum. Have a feeling we are going to have to battle the refs as much as Tech down the stretch.

Outshooting them 48% to 43%, rebounds 15 to 17 Jackets and turnovers are 12 to 7.
Not at all impressed with GT defense. In fact it is terrible.

You are right on about that. He should have 5 pts as two baskets rimmed out. How many times did London have 4 steals in a half?

the defense is much better. The reason they are forcing more TOs is that the gaps in the defense are much smaller and none of the perimeter defenders are getting torched off the dribble. Scoochie defense has improved by leaps and bounds and the last month. I think he figured out that if he wanted to play he better try to defend like Price.

love our perimeter defense that half...did a great job of getting in the passing lanes. It didn't just create some turnovers and fast breaks...but also forced them to take poor shots.

Is it just me or is GT's defense terrible? They are not pressuring the ball at all. This doesn't seem like a BG defense.
