Good info, but if he is a junior, he would be a 2021 recruit, not 2020.

Not sure if anyone noticed... On Tuesday Night, Luke had a career high 37 points and 8 rebounds in a 71-66 Win over Cohill's former HS Holy Name.
He broke a kid's ankles too which got him on Overtime.

Kid's had a fantastic year

I'm impressed by all three recruits. I was not impressed by Tony Sanders but I'll leave that to the coaches.

I'm impressed by his videos too. But that defender doesn't look like he could contain Rudy Flyer.

When Luke verbalized he was rated the 7th best player in his class in Ohio. I am guessing he has moved up. Says a lot about Grant and his staff.

Prep Hoops has Luke as second best player in the state. Interestingly, Grant Huffman, another kid Dayton looked at, is No. 3 and headed to Davidson.

Trey Hall is one of the more underrated players in the 2020 class. Ranked a four-star by many outlets, Hall has seen his recruitment grow and has drawn national attention.
Offers: Grand Canyon, Penn State, Bryant, George Washington, Rhode Island, UConn, Central Connecticut State, St. John’s, Hofstra, St Joseph’s, Siena
Recruiting: all of those schools, Rutgers, Tulane, Ohio State, Creighton, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Yale, Marquette, West Virginia, Kansas State, Iowa, Temple, Dayton, Providence, Clemson.

All I’m saying is that some kids can’t be developed All that much. Is AG responsible for Jordy being unable to play more than a few minutes without fouling out, or that Jehry is at best a marginal player?

This isn't accurate. Jordy doesn't compare to Obi as a reference point. Jordy vs Searcy or Benson not bad as you would think. Same with Jhery, he could be a very good player on some previous rosters. He may become a difference maker next year

Jordy's progress will be measured against Moulaye Sissoko. That's a healthy competition in practice.

Many said Jehry would be a difference maker this year, a starter! ( based on his 8 career baskets- LMAO) How’s that workin out? Couldn’t get on the floor against a marginal GM last night. He will never be consequential to our program. But is that AG’s fault or is there just not enough talent?
Comparing Jordy to anyone is tough. So far he’s a bust and a great disappointment. He can’t stay on the floor. Don’t know if I have ever seen one so foul prone. Is that Grant’s fault? Or is Jordy’s reaction time so slow that he can’t even get out of the way when he’s trying to? While neither JB or DS didnt do much and didn’t develop into anything more than average players , no one can be of much use when they have more than twice as many fouls as baskets. Most of them foolish fouls.

Has been offered by everyone in the area: X, OSU, IU, ND, UC, Purdue, Illinois, Butler. Ranked #89, Blake Wesley is a 6"5" shooting guard. Yes, would be a great catch.

College is fun. Playing basketball is fun. If I could have done those things until I was 25, with tuition and board covered, I would for sure take that deal. That sounds awesome. Decent chance he doesn’t come back but shocked if he does? Nah. Playing ball and going to college at 25 is not the worst option in the world. It’s a pretty good one actually.

What would his options overseas be, realistically, to make money? How much? How close is he to graduation? Does he have any desire to do grad school, and what does he want to do when basketball is not longer an option? I'm sure he will be well apprised of his options and what is available, it involves more than just his age and eligibility. There are worse things, as DallasFlyer said, than being 25 and getting a free education while playing basketball, but there are other goals in his life I'm sure and it may or may not be best to delay that for a year.

Doesn't sound promising on the Eric Gaines front from Rivals
An official visit was scheduled to LSU for this weekend, but that was rescheduled due to his team’s playoff schedule. The Tigers might be in the best spot compared to all others in the field, though Alabama and TCU are in the mix.
A commitment doesn’t seem too far away for Gaines. Look for another visit or two before a decision is reached.

We really have not been in on Gaines since his visit. I think not long after he let it be known he wanted to look at more schools and draw his recruitment out.

I am hoping we are looking at some big guys that are ready to play next year either through transfer or JC. I know Grant likes positionless basketball, but I am a little worried about the middle.

Any idea who was behind the bench last night. One recruit looked good sized and was having a blast. Lot of interaction with players. The adults with them also looked like former players and very into the game.

let me just say:
Dear Lord above,
this was an awesome game for recruits
to take in:
the atomosphere, the rocking and rolling..
the most efficient offense in the nation,
Dickie V, baby "are you serious! are you serious!"
the incredible unselfishness of this team...
if the visiting recruit has not committed in
his head and still considering.. just wow!
Go Flyers!
PS: this may also help get some more solid
transfers to come here, you never know...

Right now the program is cooking using nuclear power. Everybody else is burning fossil fuel.
We need to seek out any 3- 4 - 5 star recruits that are in 2020 - 2022 class and see if they are interested.
We have got to be taken seriously for some players wanting to get on board this flight!
Go Flyers!

Right now in this time CAG has the most recruiting power he will every get. The next three classes he brings in will be very important to maintaining any kind of run. He can get into about any door he wants, let's hope the staff can close the deals. Even grads transfers we couldn't get a sniff of a few years ago.
I don't mean the one and done's Kentucky and Duke get. Just the good solid 4 year kids. Everyone knows the good big men are the hardest to come by. But after they see how he coached up Obi maybe this too will change for CAG.

Grant is legitimately one of the best developers of big men around. I think we're going to see doors open that have been slammed shut since Uhl Sr. played.

This. I don’t want the Zion Williamsons of the world to be looking at UD. I want the Udoka Azubuikes, the Mo Wagners, and yes, the Obi Toppins to be coming here. Guys who want to commit long-term to a culture of teamwork, community, and success. Guys who want to be part of a “big fish/small pond” environment. If that’s what this year’s recruiting class is all about, then welcome aboard, Gentlemen! I just wish a few of you were about 2”-3” taller. ;-)

With what I’ve seen of Jordy this year, he seems to be more a combination of Kurt Huelsman (on the high end), James Cripe (on the low end), and Matt Cooper (in the middle). If he can improve agility and coordination over the offseason, he may be able to cut down on the fouls enough to give us 15-20 minutes a game, with 5 & 5 (points & boards). But he’s got to stop drawing the moving screen and reach-in fouls.

Basketball recruiting is in a dead period at least until April 15th. This could and probably will delay the start of the late signing period.

I watched the you tube videos on this kid and was really impressed. If he lists Dayton as a school of interest AG and his assistants should talk to him after the recruiting dead period is over. He has unbelievable hops for 6'4". Reminds me of Marcus Johnson!

@EvanDaniels
The extension of the Dead Period to May 31st means no unofficial or official visits for high school or transfer prospects. Essentially most transfers are going to end up making decisions without ever physically visiting schools.

One poster indicated his company is working with virtual reality and suggested a recruiting tool that put the recruit into the arena, shooting the winning basketball.
Perhaps it is time to explore that!!!!

I think it's more than the Arena too, I think it is the whole campus and the family feel you get when they visit. How many of our players have you heard say they knew when they came here, because of the family feel that the school has, that it was the right place for them. Not every school has that homey, family feel to it. UD definitely does!

All the more reason to offer “virtual” tours until this pandemic is over. Let the recruits immerse themselves in the experience, to the degree we can provide the experience.

3. SENIOR FORWARD DILLON JONES STILL WIDE OPEN
As programs anywhere from the mid major to lower end high major levels attempt to find players from the class of 2020, I'm shocked that 6-foot-6 combo forward Dillon Jones of Bel Aire (Kans.) Sunrise Christian isn't picking up more attention.
A skilled forward who is a high-level passer, plays with toughness and is a great piece in a winning culture, Jones was a big part of Sunrise being one of the top high school teams in America this season.
Sunrise Christian coach Luke Barnwell said Charleston is recruiting him hard, Missouri State is involved and that Dayton has been in touch. Obviously, he cannot take any visits right now but the South Carolina native -- who is open to going anywhere for school -- is being under-recruited and is somebody that more schools should be investigating.

Good form on his shot, and nice mid-range off balance. His dribble is a bit high, especially his left hand.

I checked his senior stats, and really looks
like an all around player to me:
avg just over 12 ppg,
approx 5 assists per game
approx 8 rebounds a game
and 3 steals a game...
defo maybe a Coach Grant type
player with hustle, and can bring
out the best in him... like it....

Dayton would be the biggest school after him. It sounds like Bryce Drew at Grand Canyon is making a push and Missouri State, Western Carolina and Weber State have offered per reports. I saw an article that said he's heard from us, Tulane and Notre Dame but I think former recruit Tony Sanders took that spot at ND
He's an interesting story. At one point as an underclassman he had an offer from South Carolina. He left the state to play at Sunrise Christian in Wichita Kansas which is a basketball factory school where virtually the whole team is going D1
Sunrise Christian has alumni which includes current South Carolina forward Maik Kostar and current NBA player Buddy Hield. Sunrise Christian had five players sign with Division I schools last year. N’Faly Dante, one of top players in Class of 2020, plays at Sunrise but might reclassify to Class of 2019.
|
https://www.thestate.com/sports/high...232175692.html
I saw a report that he lost 25 pounds there and really got himself into shape
He sounds like the type of guy AG would like. Good passer, versatile, can play and guard multiple positions

Apparently he also led Sunrise in assists, rebounds and steals. That’s pretty impressive on one of the top teams in the country.

From what I read it sounded like he went to Sunrise to challenge himself and improve his game. He played a national schedule against teams with a lot of D1 players and I think most importantly practiced with a really talented roster. There should be some good film against some of the best high school competition in the country
Playing for a team with as much talent Sunrise he's probably someone who gets the importance of being a team oriented guy

@DraftExpress
The NCAA made sweeping changes to their academic eligibility requirements in a thoughtful response to the COVID pandemic. A blanket waiver has been issued. They are waiving SAT/ACT test scores and even proof of graduation. Will be interesting to see how many loopholes this opens.
@DraftExpress
This could very well open the door to mass-reclassification, and also eliminate a lot of the headaches that poor [JUCO-bound?] students may have endured (regardless of the pandemic). Will likely cause some international players to consider college that never previously did.

Marchelus Avery decommitted from UCF yesterday (after they added Louisville grad transfer Darius Perry).
https://247sports.com/college/centra...-end-146283446
Probably shouldn't put too much stock in social media goings-on, but Andy Farrell followed Avery and his school. Avery followed Farrell back, and it's the only college team (other than UCF) that Avery has followed since his February commitment.
I imagine we'll see some recruiting or transfer action in the next few weeks. Perhaps Avery's the one.

From what I can find Hasan Abdul Hakim is a Canadian who's doing a post grad year down in Florida at the same school as Marchelus Avery. Sounds like he has PG skills can play 1-4. Classic AG big, versatile recruit

RECRUITING NOTE: Frank Anselem with no shortage of options
Earlier this month, Frank Anselem decided to make the move many expected for a while now and he reclassified into the 2020 class. At the time of that announcement, he also trimmed his list down to Alabama, Georgia and LSU. Since then, LSU, the school many considered the favorite, took a commitment from another post player and several new schools started to show interest, so now the four-star prospect has opened his recruitment back up.
Kentucky is the newest school to come into the picture
Alabama and Georgia also remain in the mix. Arkansas, Boston College, Dayton, DePaul, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, Oregon, San Diego State, Seton Hall, Stanford, Syracuse, Texas, West Virginia and Western Kentucky make up the list of schools jumping on the 6-foot-10 center.

Anyone know what's going on with Dominiq Penn? Looks like he is still on the market for 2020. Doesn't look like we've offered but I know there was interest at some point.
Rolling through the top 250 recruits in 2020 and seeing all the names we missed on hurts.Just the pure number of guards was tough - Curbelo, Hassan Diarra, Zeb Jackson, Eric Gaines, Posh Alexander.
Let alone add in missing on Keon Ambrose, David N'Guessan, Tony Sanders and seemingly passing on Jamal Mashburn Jr & Isiah Rivera.
There were a lot of targets in 2020 and I'm very happy with Luke, Koby and RJ but seems like the whole A10 stigma is really hurting us in recruiting. We're as good if not easily better basketball programs than almost all of the schools the guys listed above committed to.

Penn reclassified into 2021 and is playing down in Tennessee now. His dad left his job at Ohio State and I believe is with the Grizzlies in some capacity

Haven't seen much in the way of recruiting news on him lately. I think right now he might only have a couple MAC level offers.

@scottybscout
Morgan Park 2020 PG Marcus Watson @marcus3xx
has reopened recruitment per @EvanDaniels. Watson becomes the top uncommitted player on the board @TheMacIrvinFire
Not sure if UD is interested but PG I would think is still a need
Josh Cunningham and Kyle Davis are alumns of Morgan Park and MacIrvinFire

Three names that are in Rivals top 150 that doesn't have Dayton as having any interest in them: Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd & Kenyon Martin Jr. Anyone have any thoughts on these three or why it says Dayton isn't on the interest list?

I wonder:
perhaps we are holding a spot
for the possibility of Chase?
that would be fantastic,
he deserves some good luck IMO.
hope this time off has done him good
Go Flyers!

Okay the virus stuff has messed with my memory, or was it old age? Can someone update how many spots we have open for this coming season, assuming Chase does not return, and Ibi and Jalen are back.

11 on scholarship. 12 if Chase returns. So, either one or two available.

Does Elijah Weaver’s scholarship count for the 20/21 season?
