Maybe we could be fortunate enough to get both Malaki Branham a 6'5" wing who could play small forward and Malachi Smith a 6'0" point guard (Scoochies brother) from St. Raymond's in Brooklyn. While we are at it we might as well really have a great start to the class of 2021 by getting a commitment from Shawn Phillips a 6'10" center from Belmont.

We are in a 'dead period' right now, which ends at the end of the month. Hopefully something in June.

@AdamZagoria
No surprise here: June recruiting involving high schools won't happen.
I wouldn't hold out much hope for July (Peach Jam), either.
@Joshua_Newman
The NCAA buried the lede here. Recruiting dead period expected to be extended through June 30.
That means eight evaluation days in the month of June are gone. Next evaluation period after June 30 begins July 9.

Four-star junior Brandon Weston ‘will not’ reclass, talks national recruitment
Morgan Park’s Brandon Weston describes himself as a ‘position less player’ who can guard all positions. Rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports, he’s rated as the No. 61 player overall and 77th in the outlets composite rankings.
“New Schools with interest: Clemson, Florida, Miami, Iowa State, Dayton, Cincinnati.”

Kyle Davis also went to Morgan Park High School in Chicago. If Brandon Weston is half as good as Kyle I would take him in a heartbeat. He was the one player that Archie recruited that would fit the culture that CAG is trying to establish and so far has been very successful.
When Kyle stole the ball and dribbled full court or was the lead man on the fast break I used to yell sandwich because he was money on the layup and you had time to go into the kitchen and make a sandwich.
Kyle played with the Mac Irvin Fire AAU team so maybe he knows Brandon Weston through the AAU circuit. At any rate, if CAG wants to recruit Weston maybe Kyle could be an asset.

I love Kyle and what he did, but he was hardly the ONE Archie recruit that would have meshed in with Grant. Schoochie and Pollard would have done just fine under CAG. Trey and Ryan both did well under CAG. Pierre, Siebert, Cunningham? Plenty of Archie guys could have and would have thrived just as well with Grant.

You are correct, the names you mentioned should have all been included in my first paragraph! They all had complete games, were unselfish and would have fit right into Anthony Grant's system as well! I was thinking of dumb and dumber and Sam Miller.

Josh Cunningham also went to Morgan Park....with Kyle (people tend to forget this). I believe they both co-captained their team when Kyle was a Senior and Josh was a Junior.
Funny enough we got both of them from Morgan Park.

With the likely chances that AAU events are cancelled this summer I wonder if that keeps some of the guys UD is after under the radar.

@Nick_Baumgart
2021 6-9 Winchester (IN) big man Payton Sparks with Toledo and Miami (OH) offers. Valparaiso and Hofstra could be next. Interest from Cincinnati, Dayton, OSU and IU, among other high-majors. Visited IU for a game this winter. Interesting prospect.
@jakelieberman2
R.J. Noord (
@rj_noord
) was on the phone. Cincinnati, Murray State, and #Dayton are starting to show interest. He holds offers from #Elon, # Xavier, and #Winthrop. He's a player that takes feedback and works extremely hard.

It has to I believe. Lots of talent progression (and regression) by players season-to-season and year-to-year that really only gets measured up close and evaluated at camps/AAU/tourney. Not only that but the physical maturity of a kid from even fall to spring can be huge and totally uncertain in the eyes of a school who can't see him up close and personal.
In regards to big schools offering players they're going to have to go off of the offers the players they're looking at are actually getting because the year-to-year and up close evaluation just isn't happening

Here is some video on him. I am trying to figure out whom he resembles with his game. In some respects, he reminds me of a young Larry Bird.

Introducing quickly emerging forward Rafael Castro
Castro is a 6-foot-9, 190-pound power forward that brings great length, quickness and ultimately, a bevy of versatility to the floor thanks to his size, ranginess and athleticism.
A member of the 2021 class, Castro just completed his junior year at Dover High School, located just 40-miles west of New York City.
He holds close to a dozen offers from Boston University, Dayton, Fairleigh Dickinson, George Mason, Marist, Seton Hall, Stony Brook, St. Peter’s, UMass and VCU. Others showing interest include Arkansas, Florida, Kansas State, Miami, Nebraska, St. John’s, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Castro has not taken a single visit, either in the official or unofficial variety, as of yet.

Presuming he's actually 6'9" or taller, Castro strikes me as a prospect that is going to blow up (hence the premise of Evans's article). Guys that can defend the paint and get up and down the court like him are extremely valuable. Makes me think of Pickerington Central's Sterling Manley from a few years ago, where he went from a mid-major guy to UNC commit seemingly overnight. Hope the staff is able to make their pitch and establish strong connections early, because I imagine some much bigger offers are on their way this fall/winter.

Quick heads up... New 247 Article today.... We are the school recruiting Mali Smith the hardest.
As of now Dayton has been the school pursuing Smith the hardest. The Flyers are closer to home than other schools since his brother Dayshon “Scoochie” Smith played for them. He started all 32 games his senior year at Dayton and Smith credits his relationship with his brother for a large part of his success so far.
“I base my game off him, I try and do everything he does,” Smith said. “Pass first and be able to get a bucket at any time. He always helped me by giving advice ever since I was young. He has played a big role.”

Is there any indication on when he might announce his college choice? It would be great to get a high quality pg early in the process. Given the position, I think it helps influence other players to lean in knowing there is a quality "pass first" player already committed to play for up to four years.

The versatile junior has been active recently with virtual visits, having conducted meetings with Virginia Tech, Georgetown and Cincinnati. This week another trio of schools will have the opportunity to make their pitch.
“I have visits with Temple, Penn State and Dayton lined up this week.”
Jalin has no leaders, but 6 suitors are making a big push to land him.
“The schools recruiting me the hardest are Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Temple, Penn State and Dayton.”

I am so excited that Malachi might be coming! Together with Jalen Crutcher and Elijah Weaver we would have the position of point guard solidified for the next six years.

There was also a comment on Instagram from a "Paul McMillen" saying something about "winning us a national championship." I got excited about Class of 2022 PG Paul McMillan (different spelling) referring to "us" there for a second.

No one can complain that CAG and staff don't absolutely get after 4+ Stars. I love seeing this just from a brand perspective this is what we need to do. Looking forward to seeing an amazing class

The cutover at 4 star on 247 is 135. On 247, Castro is a 0 star recruit. (Reminsient of Obi). On Rivals, where Castro is #137 in the class the last 4* is ranked #126. Castro is a very highly rated 3*on Rivals.
Everything that I've read projects Castro will blow up this coming year and he's expected to be a solid 4* when the class finalizes.
I'm good with him flying under the radar...

2. THREE NYC POINT GUARDS WOULD HAVE BENEFITED FROM SUMMER EVALUATION
Last but not least is Smith. The best playmaker for others of the trio, he’s the younger brother of former Dayton star and Rivals150 point guard Dayshon “Schoochie” Smith. He’s a crafty playmaker for others and a dynamic passer who sits just outside the current Rivals150. His vision, navigation of the pick and roll and ability to score when needed likely would have earned him many more admirers this summer. As it is, he’s not doing too bad with Dayton, Georgetown, Seton Hall and Washington State among the many who have offered scholarships.

worth clicking through, good read on Castro

Word on the street, from very reliable source, is that Castro wants to remain close to home.

Not that I recall, it was more that it wouldn't be until the actual signing period, as opposed to verbally committing

While I do hope in the end Malachi Smith ends up choosing the Flyers if Lukas Frazier turns out to be a 6'4" PG with the talent and potential I have seen in his drives to the basket and outside shooting we will be in good hands. AG is good at recruiting point guards so I am not worried about our future at that position! Lukas will have to choose another jersey number other than the number 0 he had all during high school as Rodney Chatman has it for one more season. He could switch for next season.

Luke Frazier could fit in at the point, for sure. But he also could play the 2 or 3. Malachi Smith is much like Scoochie...a pure point guard with the ability to get into the paint, dish, or finish. I would actually prefer Smith at the point, but Frazier would be totally accurate. He is not quite as quick as Smith, but he has a really nice pull-up jumper.

I agree, I think I would also like to see Malachi as a pure point guard. If his quickness is like Scoochie's with the above abilities you mentioned above it would be great. If he could shoot the 3 ball like Scoochie it would be a bonus! I miss Scoochie doing the Dab! I was at the game at Davidson when Scoochie took over the OT win by making two or three 3's in a row!

Malachi Smith is the next big thing out of New York City. He leads a high-major recruitment which includes Dayton, the alma mater of his brother.
He talked Dayton, Georgetown, more with @Stockrisers. Plus, a commitment timetable. | Story: https://stockrisers.f5sports.com/s/6...ks-recruitment

Branham committed to tOSU today.
Phillips doesn't have UD in his top 3 and is class of '22.

If Malachi Smith chooses UD, we should go ahead and add one to Scoochie's all-time career assist total.

I don’t recall ever getting a HS recruit from TX. I think UD had one or two from San Jacinto CC.

Wow, you do not see many guys at 6'8" handling the ball as well as he does. He has a nice pull-up jumper as well...very rare for a big guy.

He's a good student as well, and would come in with some AP credits it sounds like.

I believe this is the first recruit to publicly embrace LOWD before he got on campus. We must have him now.

Now that I think about it, I’m not sure we’ve had a recruit from Texas but we had a player DRIVE to Texas! Whatever happened to Sammy Smith??

@BSnow247
Basketball coaches don't seem to think visits will be allowed until 2021. Quite simply, no one sees a path for visits to at any point in the reasonably near future.
Could make things interesting if we can't get anyone on campus

Ahh yes... the strange off-the-court saga of Sammy Smith, who got lost making a sandwich, only to surface in Texas... a legendary tale no doubt... rivaled maybe only by that of Sammy Miller, who lost his pants, only to surface in jail. We just haven't had the best of luck with Sams for some reason it seems.
Anyhow, to answer your question, Sammy Smith is an elementary PE and Health teacher in the Olentangy School district, north of Columbus. He also runs a summer camp program -- the Sandlot -- in nearby Worthington, where he's from.

You’d think after being on Sportscenter after nearly every game this past season they would know better.

Mr. Kaleb Washington is listed at 6’7” and 185 pounds. That is a very skinny young man at that height. I foresee a dietician working very hard with this person. Needless to say, I don’t have this skinny to the bones issue. If these kids would just eat like me, they would not have this skinny issue.

You'd think people would know that
You are the first U.
You are the last U.
You are the only Dayton U."\
are the actual final lines of the Official University of Dayton Loyalty Song and thus in a weird way allows for "Dayton U" to be said, though I'm sure the recruit was just making a mistake and knows nothing about official school songs.
