You get your list down to three teams and once the mind and heart is committed, no reason to put off the announcement. We have an open scholly, a need for his skills and Trey Lander’s #3 jersey waiting to be filled. EWeave (how he signed his twitter entering the portal announcement) come on down. Go Flyers!

I saw this last night too. I was a little concerned, the guy has 4 tweets and 3 followers. Claims to be an inside source. Hopefully we get confirmation today.

My guess is they will go for it (like everybody probably will lol) but I doubt they will get it.
I think Sit 1 is better for him depth chart wise, he's basically guaranteed to be a starter in 2021.

If we get Weaver he will join Cohill, who I think is going to have a monster year this season, so in 2021-2022 we will have TWO 4-star guards running our team. That’s never happened. And, one is 6’3” and the other 6’6”. Not sure that’s happened very often either.

I agree with sitting but you never know now adays
Would this be the highest rated recruit transfer or otherwise to suit up for UD? Looks like it to me if you just off 247

Coming out of high school. ESPN, Rivals and Scout had him as a 4-star. 24/7 had him as a 5-star.

On the Welcome thread, it looks like he might have been a 5 star player early in the recruiting-ranking time period and as high as the #22 ranked Recruit. But it appears 247 eventually dropped him to a 4-star his senior year. The Recruit rankings are fluid. I picked up the 5-star off a Clemson link when they offered him in high school.
OSU Flyer posted the 247 link that appears to be At the end of his prep career, and that was as a 4-star. Boarderline 5-Star, but probably just short of that in the end. And probably as close to landing a 5-star as a UD has ever come.
Weaver is one of the Top 2-3 ranked players ever landed by UD and very excited he will get great coaching from AG & Company.

A huge yes on Figueroa, who has great size, and had great stats, but doubt he would consider UD. A no on Smith, who has shown very little in two years.

Figueroa would be nice. If Chase is indeed returning we should be looking at the best available sit-1 transfer that can help right away in 2021. He's listed as a G, but at 6'6 200lbs he could be more like a Trey Landers/Ibi Watson sized SF in Grant's system (he averages almost 5 boards/game).

St. John's transfer L.J. Figueroa has heard from a number of schools, sources told ESPN, including:
Memphis
Texas Tech
Arkansas
Dayton
Ohio State
Oregon
Georgia Tech
Samford
UCLA
Auburn
Arguably the top available transfer. Averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last season.

22 years old...I believe he has 1 year of eligibility left. While he can light it up on O, he takes a lot of plays off on the defensive end and sometimes looks uninterested when on the court. Loads of ability and if someone can get him to maximize that ability he could be very good. My guess is he goes professional somewhere...

I say we go after him hard - he may get immediate eligibility because of the COVID-19 mess in NYC.

I believe we showed interest in him last year when he was in the portal before he ultimately stayed at St Johns. Wonder if that relationship still exists and gives us an advantage.
Also just speculating here but maybe he thinks there’s a chance he will get a waiver to play right away because sit one play one does not make that much sense for a player who just pulled his name from the draft and has the talent to play in the g league next year. A starting lineup of JC, RC, Ibi, LJ, and Jordy or Sissoko would be scary good.
He is also played on the Dominican team so hopefully Greer can work some magic!

I am convinced we have 2 more players coming...1 immediate and 1 sit. The portal still shows dozens and maybe 100 players looking for homes.

I hope that this isn't the case, and this is why I imagine there's a more solid answer out there than the public knows.
If the coaching staff is turning away talented bigs, say Brandon Watson, in the off-chance that Chase Johnson returns, they're crazy. With the current (and likely increasingly) fluidity of rosters, teams should be more aggressive about winning in the moment. Combine that with the fact that we'll have a super-talented, senior backcourt next year, and I'm pushing all my chips in for 20-21. If I'm Grant, I'm not just holding a scholarship and crossing my fingers.
It seems the UD staff is at the very least on good terms with the Johnson family, as they offered his younger brother relatively recently. With open lines of communication and the potential for a big season, I suspect the coaches have a reasonably good idea of Chase's thinking right now.
And as much as I want some clarity, I also understand they don't owe me anything. I do think there's a more solid idea out there of whether Chase will be wearing a Flyer uniform next year.

If there is anything we know about Grant, there is little to no chance that he is just crossing his fingers over any situation. I'm sure he has a plan, a backup plan, a contingency plan, a Plan B, etc. either way the Chase situation plays out. Being prepared does not seem to be a weakness for AG.

team chemistry is high on the list
I feel like next to Obi, team chemistry was the second most important ingredient in our epic run last season. I don't know anything about Brandon Watson. Likely a good player.
But If I'm Coach, at this point I see no other option better than Chase Johnson. He alone could, if healthy , fill immediate needs and has blended into the culture of DU like no one else could at this juncture. The City, the team, the potential starters, the staff are all in on Chase.
I would hold back a slot for Chase until God decides differently. He is a FIT like no one else at this point.

Yes and no. I think everyone hopes Chase can come back indicating he has a doctor’s clearance he is healthy at the time, but understanding there could be another set back because of the nature of concussions. He clearly is a good player when healthy and fits the team chemistry.
As of today, Grant is not out of scholarships, so it’s not impacting other recruiting activity. Once AG is down to only one open scholarship - and there is another player they want - then I assume the discussion with Chase changes if he has not receive medical clearance to return at that point, to “we are going to offer our last scholarship to player B and if we land him we will not have a scholarship for you.”
That’s the only fair thing that can be done and I think both parties understand this. It hasn’t come to that point yet. If it does, I’m sure medical opinions will dictate how it plays out. And if player B goes elsewhere, Chase and his doctors will gain more time to clear him.

There are lots of factors that play into roster coonstruction beyond scholarship count.
Say you bring back Chase Johnson and add someone like Brandon Watson, how do you divide up playing time for the next season? How does bringing back Johnson affect freshmen recruiting? How do Tshimanga and Sissoko feel about two more bigs with significant minutes expectations?
Chemistry is exceptionally important, and I think a real reason lots of teams tend to underachieve. I also think Grant is especially attuned to roles and attitudes.

My bad; meant Brandon Johnson, a Western Michigan grad transfer that's heading to Minnesota. Just using him as an example of a grad transfer big that isn't switching schools to play 12 minutes a game.

This is a non-issue. He had 3 scholarships to play with prior to Weaver committing. If he has knowledge that Chase wants to return and the staff is taking steps to make that happen then one of those scholarships will go to Chase (it already is his if you think about it). That doesn't mean they aren't going after other players. We know they're going after other players...

So there are at least 80 minutes to give to at most 5 bigs if Chase does come back. 2 of those 4 are freshman and 1 is a guy who averaged less than 10 mpg on a team short on bigs. I don’t think AG has any problem selling the great PT opportunity that exists at UD to a big worthy of 20+ mpg even with Chase in the mix.
If a GT shys away from that opportunity we don’t want him no matter what his YT clips look like.

Delaware forward Justyn Mutts has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer, sources told ESPN. Should have two years remaining. Averaged 12.2 points and 8.4 rebounds.
6'7" 220 Forward... New Jersey Native... UD had some interest coming out of HS

Justin Smith, 6'7" formerly of IU, made it official that he is transferring to Arkansas. Musselman now has six transfers on his roster. A bunch, but UD will have five.

Musselman built the program at Nevada off getting the Martin twins and many other transfers. He's trying to do the same thing at Arkansas.

I know that X is in the Big East, but I just don't get the attraction to that place. I look at them like I looked at UC years ago. It just feels slimy. They are on the down turn, we are moving in the opposite direction.

Stanley could be another Isaiah Philbon, who was mediocre at best at X.

I just want us to fill that last scholarship with someone that is worthy of filling the shoes of Landers or Mikesell. I don't give a cupcake about who passed on us, or who X got. Our offers will yield a good player before it's all over.

exactly... and if they pass on us,
then we don't want them anyway, regardless of resume.
I want players who are team oriented,
and want to play for the best coach and
team in the nation....

@JacobCHatch
Some significant #WCChoops news as San Diego's leading scorer Braun Hartfield has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, per a #source with access to the portal. Hartfield was an honorable mention All-WCC performer last season as a junior, averaging 13.9 PPG.
UD kicked the tires on him when transferred Youngstown State but I believe went with Ibi Watson instead. Ohio native
6'6 guard/wing who could provide some offense/rebounding off of the bench.

I hope we're on him. This would be a huge get. He would probably slide right into the starting lineup alongside Weaver and Cohill in 2021-22.

grad transfer, he's a 5th year guy
We've got an open scholarship. Could be a 6th man, could play small with him as a starter

I read an article that he has a new daughter (born around New Year’s Day) in the Toledo area. He may want to play for Toledo, BGSU, or even Detroit Mercy to be closer.

not that far away... perhaps if he wants to play for
the best coach in the nation, he would not
mind the distance?
IMO would be well worth it, but
up to him.. we'll see
