Darrell Davis - Appreciation Thread Only
Sure he frustrated us on the court at times over his career, but Darrell Davis deserves his own thread and a big thank you for a fine four year career at the University of Dayton. DD conducted himself in a very professional manner while at UD and is/was a great representative of what a Dayton Flyer should be. Also, thanks to Joey Gruden too.

For all he went through in his 4 years here, he did a fine job. He'll never be mentioned in the same breath as guys like Perryman & Chapman, but he certainly proved he belonged on the D-I stage. Thanks, Darrell!
P.S. If they were going to give a "Co-Most-Improved" award in the A10 this year, they had 2 very deserving Flyers, in Darrell Davis & Trey Landers. And that's not IMHO - that's fact!

Thanks Darrell, you always took pride when you put on that uniform and you far exceeded expectations in this your senior year after being in the background for the first three. You have many memories to take with you. Three NCAA Tourney trips and an Elite 8! Good luck in your future endeavors.

That game and the year before XW hit those 2 daggers, Baby D hit one that was enough to beat RI.

Not my favorite flyer but glad he was a flyer. Played hard. He went through some tough times in the beginning of last year but really recovered strong last year-especially on D. Just for that he earned my respect.

As you all know, Darrell crossed the 1,000 pt barrier. He finished at 1,008 pts for 47th place.
Three Point Shooting
We also know he had a good freshman year, going .452 from 3pt land to put him in the top 5 for freshman, and top 10 for any season. His 104 3 pt attempts is top 10 for a freshman.
He may not have matched his 3pt percentage this year, but his 72 3ptrs made is top-10 all-time for a season, and his 189 is top 15 all-time for a season. With that, his career 3ptr percentage (37.7%) is top-20, attempts (507) and made (191) are top10.
Games Played
He played in 130 games which is 10th all-time. (Ignore game notes and stats in gameday guides, as the athletic department didn't include last years seniors in the all-time game list.) In the 2014 season, he played in 36 games which is 13th all-time (tied with a bunch of players).
Free Throws
This season, he also tied the consecutive free-throw record. He hit 87.5% of his FTs and that is top-10 for a season. And with the FTs he hit this year, his career FT percentage of 79.9% is top-10 all-time.
Stats brought to you by Figstats.

From Darrell's Instagram Account...
“During my time here at the University of Dayton, I’ve learned a lot of things. I value each and every group of people here, from the fans to the community. After wins and losses you all have been there cheering me on at all times. You all are so noisy it seems like you could go straight through the TV.
“Game after game you guys are the ones who kept me going these last four years. I can’t thank you enough. For my past and late teammates, y’all have rallied around me, turning me into a leader for our team and becoming my brothers for life. For my mentors, you have completed an enormous task by helping me make smart decisions, step by step. For my sports advisors, words can't express how appreciative I am for you folks. Without the proper grades there is no basketball, and you ensured I remained in the know regarding my evaluations so that grades never became an issue for me in school.
“And for the athletic trainers, I’m forever indebted to you because of the insane amount of time you all put into helping me recuperate game by game. I'm very sad to leave, but I’m excited to have developed and matured into my own person. I will make everyone happy and proud of me since this is really just the start of my athletic career. I'm going to keep on pursuing my dream and UD helped fuel that fantasy and make it a reality.”

Very classy. DD came in a skinny, shy kid and leaves a man, with a degree and a ton of respect. The future is bright for him. UK, UNC and Dook can have their one-and-dones. Welcome to the University of Dayton Alumni Association DD!

DD starts his UD career with an Elite 8 tourney run... then the next year has 2 teammates kicked off the team, and has to play with only 7 scholarship players.
He loses a close family member (an aunt I believe) right before one of his seasons started, and then had to deal with losing a teammate/close friend before a different season.
Then before his senior season he loses his head coach, and responds by increasing his scoring average by approx. 11 points a game.
"Baby D" is a very impressive young man!
