2020-21 Dreaming
4-Star Recruits:
Dwayne Cohill
Potentially Chase Johnson
Zimi Nwokeji
Elijah Weaver
3-Star Recruits:
Jalen Crutcher
Ibi Watson
Jordy Tshimanga
Moulaye Sissoko
RJ Blackney
Kody Brea
2-Star Recruits:
Luke Frazier
Not Ranked:
Rodney Chatman
Potentially LJ Figueroa
One very nice 13 scholarship-team. Even without Figueroa, dang AG & Co has upgraded our recruiting and done an amazing job identifying huge upside talent, and developing and bringing players along.

Do not underestimate Luke Frazier. The kid has moxie and is a leader on the floor. He could play the 1,2, or 3.

I agree...the 2-star recruit and Chatman who wasn’t ranked are great. I filed that under AG evaluating talent that has huge upside and then developing it.
The last unranked player turned out ok under Grant. (Obi).

Not sure if you’re joking?.?
If not it’s a St John player that entered the portal a couple days ago and UD has made contact. 14.5 pts and 4.5 rebounds last year.

In a best case scenario Chase comes back and is healthy, Weaver is granted a waiver and plays right away (I don't see it, but you never know), and all of a sudden we're 9 deep of guys with college experience
Starters:
Crutcher
Chatman
Watson
Nwokeji
Tshmanga
Rotational Reserves:
Cohill
Weaver
Johnson
Sissoko
End of the bench and/or redshirt (unless they force their way for more PT):
Frazier
Brea
Blakeney
That'd be a deep team with a talented bench. Cohill and Weaver would play significant minutes before stepping into starting roles in 21-22, Sissoko would likely play close to half the game because I can't see Jordy playing more than 20-22 minutes a game, and Johnson could either start over Zimi if he's really 100% or be a top reserve if his minutes need to be managed. We'd miss the dynamic player in Obi, but that'd be a tough tough team and have a good shot to repeat as A10 champs.

Agree. We don't really need him this season. I would much rather have him for the following two seasons.

I agree. The recruiting “stars” i think is oversold. There will always be a top tier of cant miss talent. There’s likely another group that is the next tier, has some holes, but is truly upper level talent. Then there’s a huge group of talent that has holes, but can be developed.
The trick is putting together enough of those pieces where the player has an intense desire to improve, and an ability to understand and run a system effectively.
Last years team is a good example.

I could be wrong but I thought one of the articles said he is going to apply for a waiver, although I also think it acknowledged it was a long shot. Anyone else remember this?

From ESPN, dated April 3, 2021
The Dayton Flyers, one year after potential national title contenders in the 2020 NCAA Championship that was canceled, head into tonights final 4 matchup against Duke as 8 point favorites.
Riding a 21 game winning streak behind a trio of senior guards, the Flyers have played with an attitude unlike any team we have ever seen in March or April, en route to the current 33-3 record. The Flyers...............

Correct. A very good player. He was the Ohio Basketball Coaches Player of the year in D2.

Weaver may be surprised to know he won't be applying for a waiver.
"Due to the current NCAA transfer rules, Weaver will be forced to sit out next season before having two years of eligibility at his future destination. Weaver is, however, expected to apply for a waiver for immediate eligibility."

If he can get the Weaver Waiver, take it and run. We're going all in in 2020-21 with four seniors anyway, might as well go as deep as possible.
The coaches have to find an 8-9 man rotation somehow, and right now only 3 of them are proven (the three senior guards), with uncertain contributions from Jordy, Cohill, five freshmen, (maybe) Weaver, (maybe) Chase Johnson. Five or six contributors have to be found among those 7-9 players. Might as well maximize your chances.
Besides, it's not like the staff would tell him NOT to play if he did get the waiver.

Pretty sure I saw something from Jablo saying he will sit a year. I'm much more trusting in Jablo than 247.

I think they are anticipating he won't be granted a waiver but I don't think that means he won't apply for the waiver.

Arkansas has contacted him too -- SHOCK.

Both being from the Dominican, Ricardo Greer could be very instrumental with AJ as he was with Jhery Matos ...

When I looked him up on 247 - his profile has no ranking which now that I dig further is odd because he was ranked as the 82nd Recruit in his class. And dig a little deeper and you see 247 had him as a 4-star Recruit tin 2015.
My guess is he was a 4-star and the current NR on the stars line is simply a mistake. He put up good numbers at St Johns.
Also, I found verbalcommits had Chatman as a 2-star. Chatman is young for his class and was a late bloomer per Grant when he committed to UD.

Traditionally for succes in the A10, you need at least one veteran ball-handler (or under-classman who handles like one), ability to put three respectable shooters on the floor at any time and at least one player who can generate points in the paint and at the line.
For sustained tournament run, you need the above and at least 2 players who could eventually make an NBA roster - preferrably at least one as 1st rounder.
Clearly, the back-court is an advantage barring injuries and foul-trouble. Do the Flyers have enough shooters? Chapman, Cruther & Watson all have their bona fides from behind the arc - so plenty of firepower in the starting lineup. Lotta question marks on the second unit and Flyers will need at least one person to fill that role off the bench.
Ibi has the size and skill set to potentially play in the League. Crutcher is a great college player, but doesn't have the size to suceed in the NBA. That might be enough. Who else on the roster has potential to be all-conference besides the three shooters?

I think that's the question on everybody's mind and leaves the offseason inaction such a mystery. The team has the top-end talent to do some real damage, but there are also glaring holes in the roster.
They need a big that can get up and down the floor and rebound. Ideally, he would slot right in for Toppin and be able to guard most teams' centers. If he can shoot it and space the floor all the better.
Right now, we have two traditional centers (Tshimanga and Sissoko) and no experience on the wing. Unless there is something in the works (Johnson returning, Nwokeji being ready on day one or another player in their sights), it's been a pretty confusing offseason.
