Cool Unfortunately Penn was the smarter team

Just a few thoughts:

1) Penn passed the ball like our 2013/14 team.
2) We played a smarter team, and it was so obvious.
3) Misguided effort just does not translate to goodness.
4) Penn could not have started with a better approach, and they were
relentless in sticking to their plan.
5) Darrell had an off night, and we go as he goes.
6) Crosby filled up the stat sheet with good and bad.
7) Kostas is learning valuable lessons each game.
8) We can't overcome teams that shoot 57% with over 20 threes because it
turns our already weak interior defense into swiss cheese.

We just got beaten by a better squad on this afternoon.

Penn shot so well from 3 because we sat back in zone way too long

They had their lull where we caught them but we were too predictable by not switching to m2m. Their extra pass always seemed to find a guy unguarded. They were zone-busters.

They probably were smarter but I think the word for me is they were more DISCIPLINED than we were.

Penn didn't have one athletic player, how the heck did they win????

Sorry Anthony...you were out coached by a good coach and a somewhat lucky team...at home no less.

This loss doesn't sting as much as the others because I've grown accustomed to watching underclassmen make underclassmen mistakes.

Pain is inevitable...suffering is optional. (I wish I had said this first). I'm trying to take joy in each "baby step" because if I don't...suffering will surely follow.

Given the fact that they are not an athletic team, should we have attempted to press them and go uptempo, or don't we have enough athletic talent ourselves to speed up the game?

They were smarter and a better team. Their ball movement was like artwork especially in the second half. This to me was the cause of the high shooting more than being good shooters.

It seems like when zone is thrown at us it looks like 6 on 5 but when we try and play it that we are trying to kill a power play. It was amazing what Josh was able to get done with all the bodies they laid on him at times. Personally I didn't see a lot of missed opportunities for post passes today. Just not in good position to receive the ball much of the time today.

But they had excellent basketball players. Big difference. We had all the athletes in the world during the Brian Gregory era and we couldn't become better than a 500 team in the A-10. I don't care how high you can jump or how strong you are these guys were athletic enough and had a lot of savvy.

We only had two more rebounds, and Penn had 15 to 14 edge in turnovers, so no brain edge there, or coaching edge. They shot 55% to our 49%. The three point and foul shooting edge of 59%-39% and 72%-60% was a huge difference. That is talent. Recruiting shooters over athletes is what gets you those stats. Does not matter if you are strong and fast if you can't shoot or get open layups. An amazing stat is Penn had 16-7 edge in fast break points.

We can keep believing that we have great experienced talent, and if only they were coached better than we would win, but at some point the reality is we have a couple of talented experienced guys, but most of our guys are either not talented or talented and unexperienced. Let's face it, other than Cunningham and maybe Williams, we have not much in our junior and sophomore class. Our freshmen are a mixed bag of some talent and a bunch of inexperience. Even Duke found out yesterday how freshmen play.

So we can keep blaming it on coaching and smarts if it works for you, but until we get more experience and better all around basketball players, it will be more of the same for this year and most of next year.

Ball movement was outstanding, and they were firmly committed to executing their offense as well. They didn't panic when we got even. Stayed the course.

We got half of our points in the paint. Not too shabby given the attention Josh got from them on defense.

Good observations, but... we can't lose sight of the fact that their hot 3 point shooting was an aberration. They were a 33% shooting team from 3pt with a 6-4 record against an SOS of 222 !! They shot out of their minds. And we did not get a good performance out of our overall talent. On a great night for them like last night, they are heading for probably 19 wins and bubble NIT invite. They spent 11 games showing the can't shoot anywhere near that % as a routine. I would take our talent pool over theirs any day.

2 solid points here.

Should, have started pressing earlier in game, or at least 2nd half when down 6 or more.

Plus more m2m defense, in spurts or periodically.
