La Salle Game Thread
Hope everyone had a great Christmas! Now the real season begins against an improved La Salle team.... If Giannini slows it down like last year (not real basketball) I might scream lol
Game is on Friday at 6 PM and will be shown on the CBS Sports Network.
Starting Lineup:
G 0 Pookie Powell 6’0” 185 RS SO Orlando, Florida (Memphis Transfer)
G 2 Amar Stukes 6’2” 195 RS JR Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
G 21 Jordan Price 6’5” 220 RS SR Decatur, Georgia
F 20 B.J. Johnson 6’7” 200 RS JR Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Syracuse Transfer)
C 5 Tony Washington 6’10” 230 RS JR Detroit, Michigan
Price and Johnson are playing like the best duo in the conference right now... Price avg 18.5 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.2 APG... Johnson averages about 20 and 6 a night, also shoots over 42% from 3. Pookie is having a good year too, 12.7 PPG, 4 RPG, 3 APG
Let's get off to a solid start... Go UD!

This team can get ultra hot on offense. Problem is they can't stop anyone. Charles and Kendall are going to shred these guys. I bet Charles and Kendall shoot 15+ free throws between them.

Swimming pool is adjacent to the Arena. Smell of chlorine pervades the air.

At least they didn't build the arena over an underground stream which regularly floods the building.

Sorry but Playstation Vue is not a "cable provider". Cord Cutting is a bad move if you want to watch live sports in my opinion.
As for streaming the game you will have to find one of those sketchy streams of the game. Games on CBS Sports Network are not streamed.

And the color guy for CBSSN calls it "Dayton Arena" in the first sentence he says. SMH
Also I don't think I've ever seen either of these guys call a game. This could be interesting.

UD's 2 point shooting is great. 3 point shooting? Not so much.
Maybe drive to the basket more.

UD up 28 to 23. 4:31 left 1st half.

The announcers mentioned this during the game. Josh posted a pic on Twitter of him using the brand new AlterG anti-gravity treadmill to rehab his ankle. That sucker cost big bucks.

Spot on. Our best shooter CC isn't taking threes because he know we can have our way inside. Need to limit uncontested 3s from them and keep taking it inside.Talk to Kyle and KP will you Charles.

I also think Charles is smart enough to know his jumper is off due to his wrist so he has decided to drive even more than usual. He took a couple 3s and was way off and then drove the rest of the half.

Sam and Ryan did not contribute much the first half. I bet they get going in the second.
They are playing small ball and we are eating them up inside. We'll see if they come out playing bigger.
Our defense has been outstanding. We forced 10 TO in the first half. This is more than they give up in an entire game.

If it has not been said yet, LaSalle has gone from a totally deliberate offense to no offense at all.

Danger zone right now for the Flyers. Need to get something going offensively. You can't expect Lasalle to continue this bad offense the whole game.

Archie is ****ed and takes a timeout. I think he was mad at the two straight offensive rebounds by the Explorers.

He should be mad.
Not hustling. Not concentrating at the line and the outside shooting. LaSalle is terrible abd that's keeping us ahead at home. Maybe getting Sam in for a few looks at three might help

The Flyers know how to break a press. Let's see if they attack it.

And Cooke gets undercut and probably badly bruised his tailbone or hip.

Dayton wins.
That was one ugly basketball game.
Hopefully Cooke can play at Bona.

You thought their 1st half looked "very good"? If they would have shot the ball from the FT or 3pt line at even their season average I would agree, but they shot the ball horrendously all night.

These are the kinds of games we will be watching this year. Defense and guts are going to have to get it done.

For some reason, the official on the play (the one who looked like Keegan Michael Key) was giving the "Stop" sign to our bench for a minute or so. Then, once all of our players other than Cooke had gone to our bench (after the LaSalle players had already done the same), he motioned for the staff to come onto the court. Not sure about the need for such protocol in such a situation.

If a player goes down and the coach steps one foot on the court to check on him, the player has to come out of the game whether he's injured or not. By holding back the UD 'bench/coach' the ref is saying the player may not need help and, therefore, can stay in the game.

The trainers try to wait as long as possible in case the player is just stunned from the sudden contact. Mike Mulcahey is a great trainer and was not putting Charles in any danger. He was just trying/hoping he was in pain from the initial shock of the fall. If you watch enough games you will see this happen alot. If it looked like a head or neck injury Mike would have been on the court instantaneously.

UD played a great game, better than the number 1 team did. Proud of our student athletes.

You have a strange way of describing events. Did the defender push him up six feet into the air and then drag him down by the shorts? I was not at the game but saw the three different replays on TV. It was an unfortunate - potentially dangerous- injury, but no one's fault for standing in defensive position while Cooke attempted to fly over them like monster trucks.

Exactly. The announcers seemed to miss this important point. They guessed because he was groaning that he had to be pulled immediately and would need trainers to hurry up to him. Was he bleeding? No. Concussing? Almost certainly not. They followed protocol and he didn't need to be rushed off the floor for an x-ray. He was also due for free throws and is up among the best three FT% on the roster.

Undercut probably wasn't the best word but I posted almost as soon as he went down so I didn't see any replays. I wasn't saying it was anyone's fault but was just giving my immediate reaction to him going down and being hurt.
