Same, he had a Texas Tech and UC offer so certainly people saw something there.
I was hoping he could redshirt next year and be a key guy as a redshirt JR/SR.
A stretch 4 is always gonna value in today's game

Other than when Staten left, I’m always a little sad when players transfer out. In Frankie’s case, he looked like someone who really enjoyed his teammates and school. He just wasn’t ready to contribute. If Matos hadn’t been injured, we might have seen a different Frankie with the benefit of a redshirt year. I hope he does well wherever he lands. He may not have shown it here, but he does have potential.

Sorry to hear. He was a bit of a victim of circumstance last year, what with the Matos injury taking away what likely was going to be a developmental redshirt year. I agree that he’ll probably wind up at a school like Hofstra, or Siena, that has had some recent success at the mid-major level. Best of luck, wherever you land, Frankie.

Oh no! What a surprise. And in only a couple of years he could be Devin Oliver. Where would we have been without his 7 baskets?
Flame away!!! But this is how we get better as program. Cull the Frankie’s and get better. Kudos to AG.

From me, Frankie gets nothing but thank you for being a loyal Flyer and best wishes for your future. Originally, Frankie was going to red-shirt. However, when Matos went down with an injury, Frankie gave up his red-shirt. He did so when asked by AG. In doing so, Frankie burned a whole year of eligibility for virtually zero playing time. May Frankie find a good spot that fits his abilities.

This one puzzles me. He's a AG recruit who was going to be red shirted and then by necessity he has to play. He plays very little or as little as possible which would be expected of red shirt forced into play. Where was the disconnect? Was this a case of a 2nd year coach still in desperation mode having to fill a roster until he gets his own full roster in? Was this a player who would've been happy and stayed as Red Shirt but is ****ed because he had one year of eligibility wasted? Or is this a player who thought he could prove himself to be an integral part of the team but came to the realization that he sits behind Matos, Cohill and more transfers entering eligibility next season?
I'm guessing it's the latter. I'm guessing that Grant saw a role for him anywhere from deep bench to starter depending on how he progressed and Frankie thought he could prove to be starter in time. He reevaluated and realized that starter was not in his future here. Still a unique situation.

Bummer. Another shooter too. I was hoping he might consider RS this year as he planned to last year, and then come out as a force his RS SO season, where PT at his position would open up more.
I sure hope this is the last defection, but I thought that about Jordan's so...

I don't support maddog trashing players that chose to come here and leave, but he does have a point. Replacing kids like frankie and JD with better players is how we get better as a program. Now whether that happens or not is yet to be seen, but just because devin oliver had a good senior year doesn't mean it's best to nurse all under performing players through their entire career.
I wish all flyers that chose to leave the best, provided they didn't do anything to tarnish the program, but I can't say that I'm upset about it.

I really don't get the vitriol when players choose to transfer. They're not indentured servants and they must follow NCAA rules. Much like when a person chooses to move on from a job, for whatever reason.
There are lots of reasons a player might decide that his current situation isn't what he wants. Could be play time, personality conflicts, school or family issues, whatever. Not really anyone's business besides those directly involved. No player owes anyone here an explanation.

Since Frankie's announcement both Rodney Chatman and Mikesell have responded and wished him well via Twitter. I didn't see any teammates respond to JD's announcement. May mean guys were closer to JD and texted/called him or the opposite. Both seemed like good kids and I wish them the best. Just interesting to see teammates publicly respond on one and be silent on the other.

From the looks of things, yes! SDF has been around here a long time and is a well respected poster. You are not the comment police or a run the site, let those in charge handle this. I am guessing many on here would like less comments like your previous one (prior to the one I quoted) but you don't see them cussing and telling you to keep the comments to yourself.

Agree that depending on who comes in and how they perform, the program may be better. Based on Frankie’s contribution, that’s not a high bar.
That being said, you’re constant bashing of players without having to be accountable to them face to face is amazing. It’s a remarkable skill do this from the comfort of a keyboard and anonymous name.
In Frankie’s short time with the program, I think most would agree that he represented the team well, supported his team mates, and worked hard to develop his skills.
Should we have a poll on whose behavior to model on the board?

Frankie was a great kid, and we hate to see him go, but we cannot have it both ways. Nice kids with medium talent, or nice kids with excellent talent. AG, and most of us would pick the latter. We all wanted a coach who would take us to the next level, so we need to endure the losses and pain of growing.

Two of the best things about this season were Frankie's mom's Twitter and Frankie's shorts.
Good luck, young man. I hope you find whatever you are looking for.

I hope wherever Frankie chooses to transfer that he becomes a contributor and gets much playing time. July 30th of last year he chose UD over Illinois, Cincinnati, Maryland, Texas Tech and others and Flyer fans were very excited. However, all freshman are not ready for prime time and that is the reason why redshirts are a good alternative. Unfortunately the Matos injury caused a redshirt not to be an option for Frankie. The Flyers bench was already too thin!
It was mentioned that Frankie was plan B for Texas Tech and Illinois as they recruited top 100 players after they had offered and then passed him over. At the time their loss was our gain because he was known as a good outside shooter and rebounder at 6'8". Frankie also visited Stony Brook which is close to his home in New York so my prediction is that he might end up there! The Stony Brook Seawolves, after a sub .500 season 2 years ago, finished 24-9 this past season and second in the America East Conference with a 12-4 mark behind 14-2 Vermont but ahead of UMBC who upset Virginia last year and became the first ever 16 seed to beat a 1 seed. The Seawolves were picked to finish 6th and over achieved by finishing 2nd. A close parallel to the Flyers season which is much ado about nothing but I only mentioned Stony Brook because they only have 2 forwards on the current roster and could use a 6'8" forward with Frankie's abilitites especially with one year to practice with the team and watch.

This I wasn't surprised with. J Davis yea a little more surprised about his leaving.
I think he (Frankie) fell into a situation that was a tuff row for him. He wasn't ready (IMO) and could have well afforded the RS season. Unfortunately events in life do not always play out in what we planned to do along the way.
I think he attempted to contribute and be a "Flyer" to the best of his ability at the time to help the team.
May he find a better place for himself and succeed in life after CBB.

And I would certainly like to see that somewhere. He's definitely got a good body for a young kid with a lot of players have trouble getting to that stage in the first couple years. I just hear people talking about this offer and that offer a lot of times and hey misconstrue that all because a school is talking to somebody or looking at them that means they have an offer.

I don't get posters who see vitriol on a post labeled "Frankie" and assume the vitriol is directed at Frankie.
Frankie was an all-airport guy. Looked like he could totally ball, but as a freshman was LOST on the court. He probably either has stars in his eyes ("I could have been at a B10 school!") or got beaten down at practice every day and now sees he's probably not NBA bound so let's go somewhere I'm going to play minutes and have fun. And there's nothing wrong with either of those.
I think he's wrong in both cases, but hey kid, do what you need to do. We should be able to replace him, and we could have made great use of him over the next 3 years.

TX, not sure where you are coming from but you will never win when confronting SDF. You have come out of nowhere and started siding with Maddog who is the last guy to ever be associated with. Pick your battles wisely.

Did I hurt your feelings? So sorry. Frankie likes my posts according to his mom.
You are hanging over a cliff on a frayed rope, and I have the scissors out.

About Frankie anyone, can't he play DII without sitting out a year?

Well maybe I can't read, but I do not see that anywhere in this thread. You really need to just take the L and move on.

Flyers have a pretty good year, not great, but pretty good, and we get nothing but bunch of p*ssing and moaning from a few who want to turn the board into a cage fight for some reason. Maybe it's a good thing it's the off-season and some will take a break. I think some of you need it.

Not sure how that will help, since a bunch of the people over there are the same ones that are here. Bad attitudes get dragged there too.

Nowhere near as as many or as much as here. Sometimes hard to believe this is a serious site. Although in fairness it's only a handful of posters.

I've seen some people go off over there too, but they usually get the wood laid on them for it. I know I could use the ignore feature here, but you still end up seeing most of it anyway since people quote and reply.

I use ignore on a couple posters. Agree if others did not entertain those guys, i wouldn't see any of their posts, but that has a zero chance of happening

I have no problem with someone disagreeing. I happen to think the AG hire was a very good hire for the long term health of Flyer basketball. Others disagree. That's fine. But the continuos trashing of players, staying or leaving, by a handful on this site is over the top and uncalled for. If it were my site it would not be tolerated. It's not my site. So, to keep from reading it, I have ignored who I believe are the worst three offenders. Life is good. I'm not Mad, I'm not going to Scotland, and I no longer have any desire to hang out in Texas. Peace to those of whom I still read your posts. The others, unless someone quotes you, I won't see your reply anyway.

While largely stuggling when he did play this year, he did flash the potential at times. Hitting 3's, playing some solid defense, a few nice passes. Just needed that development time that we couldn't afford to give him with the roster turnover and injuries.
I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall with him likely being the 11th or 12th guy next year behind Toppin, Crutcher, Mikesell, Landers, Watson, Chatman, Tshimanga, Cohill, Johnson, and Matos. I wish him well wherever he lands.
Will be interesting to see if we bring in another transfer to sit this year, or if we bank the 2 scholarships if we don't get McNeil. With Mikesell and Landers being the only seniors, they could bank the 2 and bring in a 4 man recruiting class for 2020 and follow that up with a 5 man class in 2021 as Crutcher/Matos/Watson/Chatman/Tshimanga will all graduate together.
Going to be an experienced talented veteran team the next 2 years though, the Flyers should be a NCAA tourney team in that time.

Flame away!!! But this is how we get better as program. Cull the Frankie’s and get better. Kudos to AG.

Isn't the bigger question how we get better as a message board since we have no input on program development? Do we need to cull the herd in our own pen to increase the civility and level of discussion?

They mention that A10 schools are showing interest. Does anyone know if that's even a possibility? I hope not. I can see it now, he transfers to Fordham and lights it up every time we play at Rose Hill.
I wish him well, but I hope he does not transfer to an A10 school.

Comment that six players have transferred out of Dayton does not sound complimentary to our program. Just saying.

I agree that there’s a spin there. But, given that they’re from Frankie’s back yard, they needed to make it sound like there’s a problem with the UD MBB program, and not with Frankie.
Personally, I don’t think there’s a problem with either. Frankie gave it a shot here, and I appreciate him doing that. But the level of competition was probably a bit over his head at this stage of his career, and he wanted to play more, so he’s looking for schools that are a step below UD, where he’ll have more of a chance to play right away. And, as far as our program is concerned, 4 of the 6 left last year (and 1 of those 4 left without playing a single minute for AG, because of disciplinary/legal trouble). Our former coach ran the program one way; our current coach runs the program a different way. No surprise that some guys decided to transfer.
Best wishes to Frankie (and Jordan) in their future endeavors. Let’s move forward.

I think in all it was a balanced report. "Nothing against Dayton, he just needs to find a better fit.”
What is also relevant is how many players have elected to transfer IN to Dayton's program in the Grant era.
It's just the sign of the times, mated with new Coach and Staff. All in:
Watson
Cunningham
Chatman
Jordy Tshimanga
Chase Johnson
Matos
Who did I miss?

An easy shot to justify why the local kid did not succeed. The good news is the only one of the six, who did not lack talent or was not a problem child, was Jordan Davis.

Who cares? They obviously don’t know the stories behind the transfers. Several were malcontents and others transferred because of lack of playing time with better players coming on board. Kids want to play, which is understandable. Frankie wasn’t going to get any minutes next year.

Exactly what others have said, it is a cheap way to make it look like he transferred because there is a problem with the school and not that the player was in over his head talent wise. Look at the list of schools his AAU coach mentions and its pretty clear he was not at this level (yet anyway). I wish him luck wherever he goes but he wouldn't have ever done much here because they would have kept recruiting over him. To the casual fan they'll think six players transferring in two years is a big red flag when in today's college basketball world it is more the norm. Hell UMass has six guys transferring this year alone. The article should look right in their own back yard and see how many players have transferred out of Syracuse in the last few years.

My thoughts exactly, CT Flyer, and some excellent additional points as well. When I saw the list of potential destinations for Frankie, I immediately thought that he was looking to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Heck, I’m a Vice President at my company, but we have less than 150 employees, and our annual sales have only exceeded $25MM once in my career. So, yeah, I live “big fish/small pond” every day.
That said, yeah, the “glass house” theory comes to mind while reading this article.

Coaches can no longer "block" a player from transferring to certain schools, so he can go wherever he wants. Pretty sure has been put in place within the last couple years

Some individual conferences have their own transfer rules. In the Big10, for instance, a player can transfer from one Big10 to another Big10, but in addition to the required sit out year, the player loses a year of eligibility. So, a stiff penalty to transfer within the conference. I have looked for the transfer rule in the A10 but have been unable to locate it at this point. I will keep looking.

When Andres Sandoval transferred here, I seem to recall that there was a rule in place that you couldn't transfer from one A10 school to another. However, Andres went the Juco route for a year (ie he was no longer transferring directly from one A10 school to another), which made the rule not applicable so after 1 season of Juco he was immediately eligible at UD.
I have no idea if that rule is still in place, but its probably the first time Andres Sandavol has come up round these parts in quite some time. Perhaps Figgie has stats on the last Sandavol reference

I tried to find the A10 transfer rule also. I was/am confused by this quote in the article."...David said other Atlantic 10 schools have inquired and he is awaiting word about whether Policelli can transfer to another A-10 institution." Wouldn't the A10 schools who contacted him know the rule? (of course I am assuming he was quoted correctly)

That sounded to me like this AAU coach thinks he is a little more important than he really is and was saying he heard from other A10 schools to make this all sound better for Frankie and his family.

A 10 transfer
The A 10 transfer rule must not apply anymore. Just a couple weeks ago, a player announced he was transferring from Duquense to St. Louis. So look up Mike Lewis III, he is in the process of transferring from Duquense, where he played last year to St. Louis.

I think the schools listed in the article are more in line with Frankie’s level of talent versus what we currently have in our gym. That wasn’t necessarily the case when Frankie signed. A lot of transfers into Dayton since then are probably the key reason behind both transfers this off-season. Good for both sides of that coin. Both sides are looking for the right fit. Good Luck to both Frankie and Jordan. I hope they both light it up a year from now and pick up some grad school classes on the school’s dime.

I spoke with the SLU AD personally last week re: Lewis. With a smile on his face, acknowledging the complexity of Lewis' situation (from DU to Nevada to SLU), he said "we have no idea when Mike might be available to suit up for us."

I am happy he chose Stony Brook and above is some information for those who do not know much about the school. I will definitely follow his progress in his remaining career.

Sounds like a good fit for Frankie. Plus, he can now get that redshirt year that he obviously needed before suiting up for the Red & Blue. Won’t be surprised if he makes some level of All-Conference at some point in his time there.
Best wishes, Frankie!

Stonybrook’s mascot is Wolfe the Seawolf. The university is located east of downtown New York, on the island.

I was hoping he would transfer to a school in the Los Angeles area. Then we could say "Frankie goes to Hollywood"

I hate to derail this thread and wish Frankie all the luck in the world but I have to take this opportunity to issue a small correction before delving into a topic of paramount importance.
So first, the correction: it's actually Wolfie, the Seawolf. And that is still marginally better than the weak naming of mascots in the A10. Because he actually has a name!
And that brings me to a major issue facing the A10. In the A10, there's six schools that just said screw it... they didn't even bother naming their mascot. WTF?! That's nearly half the conference! Unacceptable!!!
The St. Joe's Hawks mascot is The Hawk. SLU Billikens mascot is The Billiken. The George Mason Colonials mascot is The Colonial. Fordham Rams mascot is The Ram. The Duquesne Dukes mascot is The Duke. La Salle Explorer's mascot is The Explorer.
If I were commissioner, first order of business would be to pass a rule that all A-10 member institutions actually name their mascots. Suggestions: Joe or Saint Joe, The Hawk. Bill or Bill E. Ken, the Billiken. George Mason, The Colonial. Ramalamadingdong, The Fordham Ram. Luke or Bo, Daisy Duke, Uncle Jesse, or Derrick Dukes. And of course, Dora, The Explorer. SEE HOW MUCH BETTER THIS IS!!!
Basically, I'd tell SJU, SLU, GMU, Duquesne and LaSalle, that they had better name their mascot ASAP or be faced with sanctions including scholarship reduction. As for Fordham, I don't know that I'd even give them a chance. We've got two other named Rams in conference already, Rhody and Rodney. So I think I'd just go ahead and kick Fordham out ... sort of a lifetime non-achievement award for years of ineptitude on the court, coupled with a complete lack of institutional control, as evidenced by their lazy, unacceptable inaction with regards to mascot naming.

George Mason is actually the Patriots and George Washington is the Colonials but will soon have to be renamed Softie the Snowflake.

I think this thread has reached its destination although I am sure someone will resurrect it when Frankie scores his first Stony Brook points.

Or when his waiver is denied by the NCAA. Of interest, Frankie apparently played really well for Stony Brook during their European trip.
In workouts and the team’s European trip, the 6-7 transfer from Dayton turned out to be a better three-point shooter than expected and also showed a penchant for rebounding and making the smart pass. He would be a high-impact addition for a Seawolves team that went 24-9 last season.

Sucks for Frankie - I wish him well. I hope he does really well there. Can't say I'm shocked about the waiver...he did play in 20 games for us, albeit in limited minutes.
The one thing I'll miss most about him is his shorts. Those things deserve their own Twitter account.
