Team’s Back on Campus
Most of the team is back on campus working out in the off-season. May 31 twitter picture shows everyone but the freshmen (Emory, Gaby and India). Most freshmen report after their club season which usually ends around the 4th of July. Really good to see Grad Transfer Libero Anna MacDonald with the team. I think she is going to be a great addition bringing not only skills on the court, but leadership.

WOW
Not only are the players back on campus working out and running team-managed practices, they also take summer school classes. And this is a very smart group of young women. 15 players were just named to the A10 Commissioner Honor Roll. That’s almost the entire team.
Great Job!

After all the injuries the last couple years, especially last year, it’s hard to even type this…
18 player roster this year. That’s a big team for UD. 15-17 is more the norm. We do have several COVID year players still playing that impact it some, but I don’t think we will have a L/DS playing as a hitter this year.
I love it will be an all-out competition for most rotation positions.

Between COVID and injury-riddled seasons as well as we had a setter-issue the last couple years at the beginning of the year, I’m somewhat surprised I’m feeling “pre-COVID optimistic” about this team this season.
Setter - returning starting setter, talented freshman who enrolled last Jan so went thru spring with the team, former starter who now also contributes as DS and another just added freshman. I’m not really concerned about setter to start the year.
Middles - returning both starters with several young guns soph + freshmen coming in to push them. Plus we have Senior Lindsey Winner who has made great contributions as a blocking specialist and rotation player when there was a hole to fill. In a word, experienced.
Outside Hitters - in a 1-setter offense you need 3 starters. We have 3 starters returning plus Mia Otten who i think is going to be great. She reported injuried last year as a freshman so lost a lot of development work, but saw rotation time when she was ready to go. And a redshirt freshman and true freshmen to push the starters. We are very deep in OHs.
Libero/DS - usually this is a lock who wears the colored jersey. An injury retired last year’s Libero. But we have 3 players that all saw extensive time in the back court last year, a freshman and what I consider a HUGE addition - grad transfer Libero Anna McDonald.
I’m thinking we are deep at all positions and we are older than we have been in years. So it comes down to how hard these ladies are committed to working and getting better. That starts in the summer work. Add in our 2nd place finish last year and no NCAA as serious motivation. Sure it’s only mid-June, but it’s GO TIME and they need to be getting after it pushing each other to get better this summer.

We need to hit .300 again. Setting and terminating. Last couple seasons it's been an unusual struggle to win points quickly. We give up points we shouldn't and boom it's 5-6-7 straight by the opposition. Those dry spells have been spells of doom. Vintage UDVB is never passing up gravy on the court. When given an inch we would take a mile. No freebie points. At times though recently the toughest Flyer opponent has been the Flyers.

With ALL THE CRAZY-NESS that the post-pandemic seems to have unleased upon the world it would be nice to see things gravitate toward what was a normal condition 'pre-pandemic'.
How and when that return to some semblance of 'normal' appears I think could ... should start with the WVB program.
Let me hear it people?!
AMEN BROTHER!

No surprise here since almost the entire team was named to the A10 Commissioners Honor Roll.
Congrats to all who contributed to this outstanding academic performance.
