Road to a Championship

Its been more than a year since anything has been posted in this thread. I’m tempted to post this in MBB, but I won’t so hopefully some will click and read this.

Not a lot of opportunities left for UD to win an A10 Championship this year. I hate even typing that. But it’s not been a good year for the Flyers. Our best shot is Softball. They sit in first place with a 14-3 conference record. SLU and Loyola are sitting in 2nd and 3rd.

If you have a chance to support this team, please go to their last home games on Wednesday, April 26th. It’s a double header against Morehead St at 2 pm and 4:15 pm at the UD Softball Stadium.

They will have 3 against both St Joe and Loyola on the road before the A10 Championship Tournament in the Bronx May 10-13. Send this team off on a high note as they need to finish strong on their road to a Championship.

No Tennis forum….so will post here. Mens Tennis is playing for an A10 Championship today. They upset #3 and #2 seeds the past two days. Will be competing against #1 VCU. Same two teams as last year. UD has no A10 Championships so far this year - Regular Season or Tournament. (Several teams have finished as runner-ups.) Only a couple more chances to bring hardware back to Dayton. Go Flyers.

Mens Tennis falls to VCU in the championship. This is VCU’s 6th consecutive championship. So we are down to softball and baseball. Anyone can catch fire and make a run, but I don’t think baseball will do that this year. But softball controls it’s own destiny. They have dropped to 2nd in the standings behind SLU, who has played 3 more games than UD and are on a 12-game win streak. We have 4 games left. Get a 1 or 2 seed in the tournament and bring home the hardware.

Congrats to Men's Tennis for their second consecutive A10 final. That was a huge win over Richmond, who shut them out two weeks ago. VCU recruits on a whole different level.

One of the announcers said one of the VCU doubles (I think the brothers) were ranked last year and probably would have been this year if not for injuries earlier in the season/missed matches. They have one player from the US, six from France, one from Brazil and one from Switzerland.

Yea with players from the countries you listed I'd say VCU has a better and bigger range in which they pull their tennis players from.

Softball Regular Season Championship - on the line this weekend. It gets complex with weather cancellations in this sport and teams don’t play the same amount of games.

So SLU sits in 1st at 18-4 with 3 games at 5th place URI this weekend.
UD sits in 2nd at 15-4 with 3 games at 3rd place LOY this weekend.

Right now weather forecasts for both locations are good with temps in the 60s.

UD has to win 1 game more than SLU this weekend to win the regular season championship. If SLU goes 3-0 it’s on to the tourney to try to bring home some hardware by winning the tournament. If SLU goes 2-1, UD has to go 3–0. If UD goes 2-1, SLU has to go 1-2 and I don’t see that happening.

Tough day on the diamond yesterday. LOY takes both games in the doubleheader. Flyers have lost their last 3 with one last regular season game today. Win or lose we will be the 3rd seed in the tournament.

This is realistically one of the last chances to win an A10 Championship this year. Honestly I don’t know about rowing, and Baseball is still playing and sits at 4th in the standings. Hoping some team catches fire to bring hardware home to Dayton.

While it was a disappointing final 10 days to the regular season when we had a chance to win the season title, I think at the #3 seed we're good enough to win the tourney title. Not ton of separation at the top and we have perhaps the best hitter and pitcher in the A10. That will give us a chance.

#3 UD vs #6 URI on Wednesday. We beat them all 3 games during the season and scored a lot of runs. 7-5-7. You’ve got to show up and play or you can get beat, but we should get through to the next round.

Double elimination tournament. So we fall to #2 LOY but beat #6 URI to make the semi-finals against #1 SLU. We beat SLU 2 of 3 games in the regular season. You do have to wonder if we rolled out backup pitcher(s) for LOY so we could have the SLU matchup. We are 0-4 against LOY this year.

Still alive and we need to beat SLU. I won’t call it an upset if we do, because we own the reg season games.
