Where does GW comeback rank all time?

My memory is not that good.....anyone out there able to recall another 21 point deficit mid way thru first half - AND THE FLYERS WON!

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!

My memory is usually pretty good, but my UD history only goes back to the late 80's early 90's.

From what I read in the DDN, it appears to be the largest comeback in the program's history.

My favorite and perhaps was the largest deficit to come back from until last night, was the Miami OH Brian Roberts buzzer beater.

On January 31, 1987, Cincinnati led UD 43-23 at halftime. UD came back to win 67-64. A kid named Anthony Grant led the Flyers with 20 points.

There were no larger deficits overcome bigger than 14 before 2006? Seems odd that would be the case.

The list is only listing since 2006-07 season as that is all the in game score data I have. And the official box scores didn't list largest lead until the 2005 season. (I've since added 2005-06 data, and no games in that year made it into the list.

Interesting, though maybe not surprising, that seven of those are road games.

Might be. The media guide only specifies largest halftime deficits, not largest in-game deficits. We were down about 15 to Miami at halftime in that game and it ballooned to 20+, but not sure if it went beyond 22.

This is the largest halftime deficit.

I'm not sure what the largest deficit during the game was, but pretty sure it was more than 20 points.

The duquesne game in 2014 we were down 18 in the second half and came back and won.

The Duquesne game was special as I’m pretty convinced if we didn’t win that game we would not be going to the NCAA tournament, which means we would not have ended up in the elite eight that year. Definitely one of my fondest in person Flyer game memories! Definitely worth the trip back home and then to Pittsburgh!

The best (not the biggest) comeback in UD history, as far as I can recall... UD trailed Xavier by 15 with 2:22 left in the game and ended up winning. It was in 1995 or 1996 IIRC.

Late 60s,one of Don May's team played DePaul in Chicago at Alumni Hall. Dayton was down by 20 at half. Dayton came back and won by 20, they got a 1st place vote from a sports writer in Chicago for this the following week

Could that have been the 98-91 win on Jan 7, 1997? I seem to recall Rodney Horton going off in the last few minutes.

The 15 point comeback against Xavier was sparked by Chris Daniels making two free throws (the Flyers had missed about a million at that point) in one of his last few games The crowd loudly (and a little sarcastically) cheered those free throws and something set the Flyers off. I don't remember much else except feeling sorry/not sorry for the thousands of fans that left early in disgust.

I was at the Duquesne game in 2014. Thrilling to watch the comeback, but oh so frustrating to watch the Flyers fall behind so far so quickly early.

I had traveled to Pittsburgh with one of my brothers who absolutely snapped at about the time that the Duke’s lead reached its pinnacle. He just suddenly lost it. Went from being completely silent to raging in an instant, almost causing an older gentleman and fellow Flyer fan seated in front of us to have a heart attack. But of course, we came all the way back, and the rest is history.

When it comes to greatest comebacks of all time, this is not really a list teams should aspire to be included among.

First, in order to be there, you need to fall way behind, which likely indicates a serious lull, lack of energy, effort, or an awful shooting slump at some point in a game. Secondly, it requires that you have fallen far behind a team that isn’t really very good, as really good teams do not give back enormous leads, and this would be necessary in order for a team to find its way onto that list.

I was also at that Duquesne game. Drove in from Cleveland and stayed the night, hitting the bars after (and before the game). I agree that if we had not won that game, we may not have made the NCAAT that year and we know the rest. I would put that game more in the category of bad memories. The only good thing was that it didn't end up being in my list of all time worse games attended. I was not out of my mind vocal but I left my seat to sit up in what I believe was the media seats. I remember sitting with another Flyer fan also beside himself.

I'll pass on any more of those kind of games.

Not the biggest point deficit by a long shot, but one of the biggest in terms of implications was the 11 point deficit against DePaul, with 2-1/2 minutes to go, in February of 1984, when the Blue Demons were ranked #3 in the country.

Was in the Pep Band that day. Raymond McCoy missed the first shot of a 1-and-1 (shooting into the Pep Band - you’re welcome ), Schellenberg out-fought 2 Blue Demons for the rebound, and then it was “Schelly to Chapman to Young” for The Shot and the win that propelled us into the NCAAs and our next-to-last Elite Eight appearance. Without that comeback, there is no Elite Eight appearance.

I'll never forget in the early 80s when we were down 25 at the half vs Cincinnati. My husband and I and his parents decided to stay and see what happened in the 2nd half. we said if Cincy scored more early we would leave. Hubby and I planned to go to a dance at church after the game and we were already late. Surprise! We chipped away and chipped away and ended up winning by 7 or so. Friends and family, listening on the radio at the dance, had turned it off in disgust at halftime. When we got there, they asked, "How bad was it?" They were nonplussed to hear that we won!

I remember that game. Great win, especially because it was against UC, who we always seemed to lost to. UC turned the trick a few years later at the game in Cleveland, when we were up big in the first half and lost.
