Interesting comments about Steve's great hands. I, like others, noticed last Saturday a few passes he did not handle. I think great hands is only one third of it. Anticipation and strength are the other two factors. Those latter two can be developed. Great hands, not so much. That comment by Archie, who sees Steve every day, put a huge smile on my face.

Jack, your point about anticipation is something that has been stuck in my craw for years. The point guards we've had (London/Lowery/Dillard/and now Scoochie...BRob wasn't a pass first pg) have way more turnovers and fewer assists than they should, not because of errant passes, but because the passee wasn't anticipating a quick pass under the basket. As a receiver of passes from a crafty pg, you should always be expecting the ball from any angle and speed.

Have to disagree with you on Dillard and Scoochie. Dillard's reason for not having enough assists his senior season was his selfishness to always want the glory and not seeming to trust the other 4 around him.
Scoochie's is that the team is a passing team that will take the shot clock down to the final seconds to find the best shot. That means that Scoochie will have less direct assists since when he gets the ball most of the time, it means the offense is resetting. The other reason is that once the ball crosses the half court line, Kyle Davis becomes a 2nd PG. Another reason would be the inside out style with Pierre the Flyers played.
Yes, there are times when a player doesn't anticipate a pass, it hasn't been rampant with this team though and it's not always a Scoochie pass that they aren't anticipating. The best shot usually doesn't come from a PG pass, it comes from a fake outside shot with quick pass inside or player from the inside quickly kicking the ball out. The fact UD has always depended on quick transitions scores also means that the assists come less from the PG.
