10M fans and Big Steve
Just a couple thoughts.....not complaining, just feel UD hoop PR dept misses some great opportunities.
1. Wonderful tribute to Big Steve yesterday. What an example he is to us all as an organ/tissue donor.
2. 10,000,000 fans.....one of 11 programs in the country. What did the 10M fan receive? All we saw was a couple with Rudy at an Arena entrance holding a big card that I figure has some player autographs. That's it for such a monumental occasion?!!
NOTE: A memento to all in attendance, say a "coin" with Big Steve recognition on one side and 10M in attendance on the other. How much would 13,000 of those cost? Think maybe a sponsor would have picked up the cost?
P.S. Another missed opportunity regarding the on-goingWhite Allen MVP recognition. With proper planning most of those nights the honoree could have been brought to mid-court for proper recognition. You'd have to begin planning in the summer, but in as many cases as possible it'd been neat to have MVP here.
Back to hoops......Flyers and AG are doing a great job. What a fun team to watch.

What does the White Allen MVP have to do with honoring Big Steve or 10M fans. Just curious.

I don't think Piqua was associating the WAMVP acknowledgement with the other two celebrations, but just as an example of UD PR missing opportunities. And I agree and we've had the same discussion among other season ticket holders. Why not try to PLAN for the WA MVP to be in attendance and space out acknowledging them based on their availability...not always possible of course, but I would think that some/most make it to Dayton on occasion. Shoot, Chris Wright might have been at the game where he was honored, and I've seen Ryan Perryman at several games. Just takes a little effort...

I want the student section to start shouting "Steve says NO!" after every blocked shot. How cool would that be if it becomes a tradition and gets talked about 50 years from now.

I would guess they didn't because it was probably something small like the gifts they give the Vets they honor each game. If it was a big package, I am sure they would have announced it.

Per DDN:
— Large commemorative ticket autographed by men’s team.
— Media guide.
— Miami valley gaming restaurant gift certificate.
— Dayton Marriott restaurant gift certificate.
— One year of free car washes at Mike’s Car Wash.
And they were given seats courtside and a cake, evidently.

No wonder they had to remodel the arena and couldn’t afford to build a new one.

Looks like it would have been better to have been the 5 millionth fan. Free airfare, hotel and a rental car. Seems like you could make a pretty nice vacation out of that.

Since the WA MVP has been brought-up in this thread, I need to suggest we start a poll for how many times they’ll get the scoreboard recognition of that honor correct. Right now, my vote is 2 (out of 18 home games, including the exhibition against Capital). Sunday, they recognized Chris Johnson for winning the award in the 2007-08 season...WHEN HE WAS A SENIOR AT COLUMBUS BROOKHAVEN HIGH SCHOOL. Earlier this year, they made the same mistake with Chris Wright. And on the days when they recognized Keith Waleskowski and Ramod Marshall, they got those wrong, too. And those are just the ones I’ve noticed.
I mean, really, people. How in the h@!! hard is it?! The correct answers are in the friggin’ Media Guide!

I noticed they got it wrong for BRob as well. It's really inexcusable.

Hopefully they don't f up Senior Night. I believe this would have been Big Steve's "Senior" season. There better be a framed jersey given to this family along with a retrospective video on the scoreboard and a "Steve Says NO" tribute by the Red Scare.
And, some recognition from the A10 League office.
There, seed planted!

I have no idea about Senior Night, but Steve's family already has his framed jersey with the pictures in the lower corners identical to those given to the seniors. It was on display at his funeral.

Oh, BTW, did you notice an increase in fan participation singing the Anthem at the Richmond game? I did. The trumpet rendition was great. Put the lyrics up on the end of court boards and we'll blow UK out of the water!!
