Players' Tribune Article: For Number 5
Tremendous article written by Bonsu in the Players' Tribune about Big Steve:
https://www.theplayerstribune.com/un...teve-mcelvene/
It's easy to get caught up in all the ups and downs of a basketball season, but it's important to keep perspective about the things that really matter. RIP big fella.

Mr. Bonsu I think you have a career ahead of you as a writer. That article brought tears to my eyes. It read like something Tom Archdeacon would write.
I just wish it wasn't a true story.

Derek Jeter, who runs The Players Tribune would have a lot more influence than I ever would.

Good luck reading this without tearing up. Priceless. If Jeremiah doesn't make it as a coach (and I think he will) he can take over Arch's job at the DDN when he retires. Both articles I've read that he's written have been excellent.

I teared up for sure. Also, Friday is my son's Remembrance Day. This is the first time during this four year run that we played on 3/17 and I'm not sure I'm ready for the emotions. This one is for Steve and Caleb <3 <3

I don't know, but I do know maybe you should check the cleanliness of your work area...it might just be a bit dusty.

Excellent article. I feel for your program. Really puts into perspective how unimportant basketball is in the grand scheme of things.

I"m far from the Program. Living my daily life in Long Island, watching games when I can.
Dude, this is what brotherhood is all about. Sports brotherhood, Real brotherhood.
Team. Fun. Memories.
Seriously GREAT writing, poignant. Real. Inspired.
Let's hope the squad can go out and dedicate it to Steve and his family this weekend. IT's important NOT to forget guys like Steve. You could the joy in his play, every block, every score. Eyes lit up.
Guy loved life. I could see that from Long Island!

When Steve would swat away a shot. I've been sold by a member of the Red Scare, the students would shoot "Steve says no". I hope this true team will "say no" to losing in Big Steve's memory.

Did not know that DD and Big Steve were so close. Wonderful story. Big Steve had his own spirituality--- making others feel good about themselves. I have watched you too Mr. Bonsu, a lot like Big Steve just a little smaller. Like Big Steve you always seem to have a smile.

This will be a mandatory reading assignment for my 13 year old grandson. My heart breaks again for a person I did not know personally but sure wish I did.
What a legacy - to impact not only his fellow teammates, coaches and many students, but also fans like me who would cheer for Big Steve from their seats. I will never forget Big Steve leading the team in the huddle with his pre-game dance getting the team fired up. A smile comes on my face just thinking about it.
To Jeremiah Bonsu, I have a feeling that Big Steve was just as fortunate to have you as a teammate and friend.

I'm glad I read this before tonight's game because it really puts things into perspective. Win or lose tonight, I will be extremely proud of this team and how they have represented the University of Dayton throughout their careers.
