is that what NCAA sports have come to?
Supposedly Barnes lost his job because he refused to throw any of his assistants under the bus.
Gary Parrish @GaryParrishCBS
Rick Barnes said each of his assistants offered to resign so he could remain at Texas. But Barnes didn’t want things to go down like that.
Flyers have only fired 2 mens basketball coaches, Donoher and JOB. In retrospect firing Donoher was a huge mistake. A retirement plan should have been worked out. Karma paid the university back for the way they handled Donoher. He deserved better.
Now at a place like Texas a guy goes to 16 NCAAs in 17 years, becomes the all time winningest coach and doesn't have a hint of NCAA trouble and he is given an ultimatum, throw your coaches under the bus or get fired.
Says a lot about Barnes that he wasn't going to throw one of his friends and associates out the window just to keep his job. I applaud him for the decision because most coaches in this day and age would have taken the low road.
So you can win a lot of games, be a good guy, follow the rules and if someone decides your not winning enough it's "don't let the door hit you in the the a$$ on the way out."

i do not see why any coach would leave the likes of Dayton, _avier,Wich St.,VCU,New Mexico etc....... One horse schools that give the coaches everything they need to succeed. Unless you are going to a blue blood it is just a revolving door and you are being hired to be fired.

Sometimes it's not all about just "W"s.
Coach Barnes yearly recruited several high level talents and a gaggle of secondary court rats. He rode that philosophy successfully for a number of years. He beat up on a conference that was not basketball-centric. But this quote was one that he would have liked to reach out and grab back:
"I would rather guarantee NBA careers (of his recruits) than win National Titles".
And that's what seemed to be the perception of his teams. The NBA has a bunch of ex-longhorns, but team harmony was on the back burner. Basically the polar opposite of what our Flyers were made of the last two seasons. When Texas was good, he
had his share of stars. When Texas was bad, he had his share of stars. It began to
appear like he was locked into a certain team makeup that wasn't working toward the institutional good. Attendance was spotty. Texas could have joined the NBADL, but was
riding a questionable formula for the ultimate team success.
