UConn 20-21 game in jeopardy?

This article says UConn may need to drop/reschedule 4/5 non-conference games from the upcoming season to get under the NCAA’s limit of 29 regular season games.

It doesn't mention Dayton as an obvious candidate but you'd have to think with COVID-19 and travel concerns (not to mention being non-P5) they are on the short list.

Hmmm that seems mean spirited but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Then please don't complain when games against over matched teams like Coppin St. are on the schedule.

We should play teams like UConn when we have the talent to not be embarrassed.

Which opponents on UConn's five-game season abbreviated schedule do you feel the Huskies should whittle everything down to, so they do not embarrass anyone else?

Games are not scheduled right before the season starts. Its done a few years before. Dayton schedules games, even though they really don't know who we will have on the roster that season.

They have their league, there’s the majority of their games. I don’t care who they play as long as its not us, we shouldn’t be a buy game for anyone. We shouldn’t play teams when we score 4 baskets in our best quarter and made 14 in the game. They made 12 baskets— in the first quarter!!!! Oh and we were in our gym.

Do you think our football team should schedule Alabama???

But Im wondering why you're not concerned that Geno Auriemma plays 85% of his games against opponents he has no business scheduling because of the disparity in talent. Obviously Dayton was and is one of those schools, but why are you not upset about all of the other schools that are making the exact same mistake Dayton is -- playing UConn?

The UD football team is not an FBS member.

UCONN beat the Flyers by 38, early in the season when we were struggling (not that we would beat them anytime last year). Some of the ACC winning margins by the Huskies, 44,33,38,40,58,56,39,43,47,41. With the relatively shallow talent pool in WBB the Huskies have a huge advantage over all but a very few teams.
I'm all for playing anyone anytime, it doesn't hurt our chances to Dance and gives the players an opportunity to play one of the very best, same with South Carolina.

This game is part of the 2 for 1 contract. I don't think it involved a buy.

Huskies OOC last year, Cal, Vandy, UVA, OSU, UD, Seton Hall, ND, DePaul, Oklahoma, Baylor, Tennessee, Oregon, South Carolina. Not exactly a creampuff schedule.

Wholeheartedly disagree with these sentiments. It is never inappropriate to see how we would stack up against a Top 10 team, and even get steamrolled.it is a learning experience that can pay dividends. Despite losing by 21 in the Elite Eight, our 2015 team pressed uconn hard and earned a halftime lead before running out of steam. That moment was not a black mark on our program, quite the opposite. Scheduling down to avoid more uconn match-ups would not benefit us in terms of recruiting nor in terms of growing as a team. If you schedule UConn your viewership grows exponentially and that translates into other intangibles. Another sold out game at the UD arena against a top flight school would be a great boon as well. Who wouldn't want this? To me a 20 win season against teams you're supposed to beat is less impressive, and the committee can't really be bothered with any A10 at larges at the moment, evidently your brand of scared to lose scheduling has done the A10 no service.

No doubt. Yet 85% still cant hang with em. UD is not dissimilar to most teams on their schedule.

If you say UCONN shouldn't schedule 85% of the teams it schedules, who exactly should they schedule, the WNBA. We all agree they have a huge advantage, but they seem to play anybody anytime. The depth of the pool makes it so there are only a handfull of really good teams, and UCONN is good every year, some years better than others, but all very good. The ACC only offers competition on rare occasions. Nature of the landscape in WBB.
Last year the huskies played three teams,Baytor, SC, and Oregon, all ranked higher, (1,2 @3) than the Huskies (5) and they lost all three. It can be done, but only by a few programs.

Thats kind of my point. They are 40 points better than 85% of the teams on their schedule -- including teams far better and worse than Dayton. So why is it so bad for Dayton to play them if they play 20 other teams just like Dayton.

I would make the argument that it was precisely our very difficult non-con schedule that toughened us up for the A-10 and our eventual regular season and tournament titles. A very weak A-10 conference helped as well.

We are on the same side here, I think it's great that UD plays UCONN and SC doesn't hurt or dance chances at all, wish we played them every year. But saying Geno has no business scheduling 85% of the teams he schedules leaves almost nobody to play.
