Tesla a firetrap

Two Florida teens lost their lives on May 9 when the Model S they were traveling in erupted into flames after striking a concrete barrier. As in previous incidents – at least three others – a large portion of the car was quickly and almost completely consumed before the fire was put out.

Since Teslas are electric cars and don’t burn gas, this one wasn’t burned to a cinder by gasoline.

It was the lithium-ion battery pack that caught fire.

Rolling Hazmat scene...the dangers that first responders face with these things are pretty stiff. Don't cut the orange cord..

Is this the same sort of issue with the previously exploding Samsung Galaxy smartphones and the exploding Apple iphones?

But they are beautiful cars and some day I'm going to get one.

I did some business this weekend with someone who pulled up the royal drive in a 3-year old Tesla. We went out and talked about how great the car was...and I agree, they are and have everything you could want...as long as it's not on fire!

If they can get a 400 mile range and a 15 minute re-charge I will get one too.

Airlines are now keeping thermal containment bags in the cabin in case someone’s phone/iPad/laptop has a thermal runaway incident.
