GW game
Nice all around game. Career high from KA I believe, dropping in 14. Nice way to go out at home by DD too, with 22 points and only 1 TO!
Probably the biggest thing today was only 9 TOs. Yes, it helps to shoot 55% from the floor, but we just didn't give away very many possessions. We were badly out-rebounded and give up 50% from the floor, so D remains a concern, along with sub 70% from the FT line.
1. Crutcher, 35 min, 7 assists, 0 TO!
2. DD drops in 22, 1 TO
3. KA with 14
4. Cunningham with 17 and 13, nice double-double
5. TL with 17 and 3 steals. Only mar was the 3 TO and a couple missed defensive assignments.
6. Svoboda only plays 5 minutes. Could be matchups, or could be that KA was hustling and scoring.
Overall, nice win over a not great GW team, but given the year we've had, will take any win.

Good work by Kostas coming around from the guy at the beginning of the season who wanted to be a perimeter player to coming around into being a post guy.
AG deserves credit on that too

Very happy KA didn't pick up a foul until after he scored 8 points and that he poked the ball away from an offensive player several times without fouling

I know that there is all this wild speculation of who is coming back next year. I really really hope that Kostas comes back. He does so many things that UD big men just don't do.

Offense was sharp with very few turnovers. Defense was weak, gave up a high shooting percentage, but GW's defense was worse. The D did get some turnovers. Jordan Davis has improved his D.
Kostas showed some real potential. He looks more like a threat on offense. I was impressed with some post moves. If he can gain some strength, he could be really good down low. He still needs to work on his footwork. He is using his long wingspan to make up for it. Sometimes, he gets away with it.
This team is night and day home and road. They would have won the A10 if they played all home games.
This team could be good if they improve the defense and depth next year. Josh looked very tired and a step slow. Not bad for a guy with a double double, but he is now lacking a little explosiveness he had earlier in the year.
Great game for DD. He seems to play much better at home.
Fun to watch Joey start and not hurt the team. I've seen the senior walk on start turn into a disaster in the past.
Williams was not at the game at all. My guess is he is gone.
Fun game for UD fans. I hope we see more of that next year along with a road warrior winning mentality.

agreed, a 6'11 guy with his athletic ability is rare for a Kentucky to find let alone Dayton

Surprised about XW not being at the game too. Even if you are "shutting it down" due to injury, I would expect you to be at the game cheering your guys on. Unless he literally can't sit on the bench, or is in the hospital, I'd say it's as clear an indication as anything else that he won't be around next year. Too bad, I liked him and thought he could have brought a nice inside/out game with a little more strength.

I would like to see a starting line-up next season of Crutcher, Davis, Landers, Kostas, and Cunningham. That would mean Kostas made significant improvement over the summer. With the addition of Cohill, Matos, Toppin, and Mikesell (and maybe one or two more) we should have much more depth than we had this season.

Also noticed that XW was nowhere to be found. Not trying to start a rumor mill, but would be surprised if that wasn’t a sign that his year’s supply of Rice-A-Roni will be waiting for him, along with some lovely parting gifts, especially chosen, just for him.

I was happy to see the effort and energy from Josh today, it was the most engaged he has been in the last four games. I had concerns that he may have had it with AG and had packed it in for the season and would move on next year. This gives me hope he will be back next year.

My take on Josh is that 30 games of playing 35 minutes against the biggest guy on the other team had taken a toll. He seems to appreciate how Kostas has stepped-up in the past few weeks, allowing him to both get a breather and occasionally slide over to the 4 spot where his “odds are more even”. Maybe, if there was an attitude problem at some point with Josh, it stemmed from him not getting any help from the big guys on the bench?

I like that group, but it still points to the need for more beef up front, at least for post defense & rebounding. It also highlights the usefulness of a grad transfer at PG, to provide some depth until a freshman PG shows-up in 2019-20, to be groomed as Crutcher’s successor.

And the fact that he is almost a 70% shooter and gets very limited touches on the ball or at least he did throughout a majority of the season. All fair elements as to why Josh can get very frustrated.
